FFII kinda has a system like this. Three core characters and then the rest join and leave. But I've never played III, XII, Tactics, nor even II so I couldn't tell you how alike they actually are. Seen XII's system though. II's just an unorganised version. ILHI 15:01, 2 July 2009 (UTC)
- Nah, that's totally different. In FFII they are fully controllable by the player, no different that the core three in gameplay terms (though I've always thought of Leon as the fourth character). That would make them "Temporary Playable Characters". --BlueHighwind ツ 15:05, 2 July 2009 (UTC)
- EDIT: Are there any other games with something like this? I assume Final Fantasy Tactics Advance and A2 might have something. Sephiroth in FFVII kinda acted like this too... --BlueHighwind ツ 15:07, 2 July 2009 (UTC)
- Oh yeah, forgot about the "can't control" thing. Sephiroth works kinda like this. Although all battles with him are scripted where Cloud doesn't control anything. Sephiroth is more comparible to the IV battles with Golbez and Fusoya against Zemus, and Tellah against Golbez... Not really? ILHI 15:12, 2 July 2009 (UTC)
Clear some up for me please[]
What is the "Official' difference between temp characters and guests? What more can I say? 03:52, February 28, 2010 (UTC)
- Guest characters are computer controlled, temporary characters aren't. Not sure who decided that (the articles probably should be merged), but that's how it is. ScatheMote 04:02, February 28, 2010 (UTC)
- I thoght that when I found this page... why the hell are they separate? Meh, no big deal What more can I say? 04:11, February 28, 2010 (UTC)
- I ain't against the merge, but I prefer retaining the "Guest" as the article title rather than Temporary Playable Character. The term Guest was officially used since FFT (probably adopted from Tactics Ogre). And Temporary Playable Character and NPC are both not suitable in the case of Ashe and Basch. -- Inpursuit 04:39, February 28, 2010 (UTC)
- I like the differentiation between Guest and Temporary Player Character in terms of controllability. TPC is a fan term, but Guest has been used officially, as Inpursuit pointed out. Otherwise, if the articles are merged, we'll need to (probably without much grace) explain how some TCs/Guests can be controlled and some cannot, and then designate which are which.
- If we keep these separate by the above, there are some TPCs that should be moved to the Guest page. 8bit 05:21, February 28, 2010 (UTC)

So are we actually suggesting a merge? Or you just explaining why they are separate? What more can I say? 05:28, February 28, 2010 (UTC)
- I support a merge. I had actually categorized both Guests and TMPs in [[Category:Guest Characters]], not knowing either article even existed. --Adonzo 06:55, February 28, 2010 (UTC)
- A merge would probably be the most benefical thing for these two articles. Some of the articles could use rewrites in certain sections as well as more specific information where it can be provided (such as guests who become full-on party members and guests who go away or become villians.) As there seems to be no opposition, I will merge TMPS into this article in 24-hours unless anyone can raise a valid argument in the meantime, opposing the merge. What more can I say? 03:14, March 1, 2010 (UTC)

Merge done. I just need someone to go over my edits. For the games I have not played my self, I simply ported the list over from TPC, expand if you would please! Thanks!
FF4 and Shadow[]
I'm not sure every member outside the final five counts as a "Guest." Most join you for an extended period of time and in the Advance release you can re-recruit them freely. I could see Fusoya counting since he's only around for one dungeon, but that's it. On the other hand, Shadow in FF6 can be recruited or not as the player wishes at several points and is prone to leaving at random. Maybe a note could be added for him? Doreiku Kuroofangu 11:10, March 20, 2010 (UTC)
Also, regardless of the above I'm gonna restructure all the sections like FF3: list the Guests and explain how Guests work in that game. Doreiku Kuroofangu 11:11, March 20, 2010 (UTC)
they are not guests. they're fully playable. it's like saying Galuf and Aerith are guest characters because they're not in the party til the end of the game. Monterossa (talk) 14:42, October 9, 2014 (UTC)
- Oh wait.. this page is about the temporary playable characters too? Monterossa (talk) 14:47, October 9, 2014 (UTC)
