Gilgamesh: Enough expository banter!
This talk page is used for discussing improvements to the page "Garland (Final Fantasy)/Dissidia". It is not the place for general discussion or sharing stories about the topic of this article.

Okay, just a question to those high-up admins out there: Do we allow fanart if it gives a better representation or helps with understanding?  ILHI 12:55, 6 February 2009 (UTC)

How about never at all? --BlueHighwind 13:12, 6 February 2009 (UTC)
Okay, that's nice. We've been doing it for ages!  I Lion Heart I 13:14, 6 February 2009 (UTC)
I don't think Netherith understood what he was doing. Anyways, the only replacement I could find to that fanart was this Image:SeeD Outfit Sketch.jpg, which has been scribbled all over. Perhaps I can find a better one... --BlueHighwind 13:17, 6 February 2009 (UTC)
I say yes. Those diagrams weren't done for "fun" or to look "cool" and "in". Their main purpose is to explain or demonstrate a certain object, and thus, there is no problem in having them on our articles, as they enrich them. You can start clearing the FA candidate Gunblade if you think fanart is bad. - Henryacores^ 13:18, 6 February 2009 (UTC)
^^This. Netherith has used fanart to demonstrate many times. In a recent Bluerfn thread though, Bluer was anti-fanart. Most users here didn't know they were in our articles it seems.  I Lion Heart I 13:21, 6 February 2009 (UTC)
Fanart, and fan-sourced information in general, have a notorious tendency of being offset from official sources - which is why I encourage official publications and images released by the developers very much. I'm ok with it being helpful and informative if it does follow what official sources depict, but when it's placed recklessly in articles, expecting other editors to help rectify, then that's unacceptable. Also, this accusation of me being "anti-fanart" is regrettable. BLUER一番 13:57, 6 February 2009 (UTC)
I'm going to see that as a yes to informative fanart, such as this one case. Also, Bluer, you sounded like a fanart hater back there, so don't get impressed by comments like those.- Henryacores^ 14:01, 6 February 2009 (UTC)
You know I meant anti-fanart in articles.  I Lion Heart I 14:06, 6 February 2009 (UTC)
I'm not impressed. I'm actually annoyed. Also, informative fanart would be replaced with informative official info (image and such).
ILHI, no, I don't. BLUER一番 14:10, 6 February 2009 (UTC)
I understand your point, but we can always use "good" fanart (what we've been talking about) as a replacement for concept artwork we don't have. In case we have it, the choice is obvious. I'm not saying I want this wiki to be fanartopia, I'm just saying that if there isn't the official stuff, we should resort to fanart. (And now I've said fanart like 100 times...)- Henryacores^ 14:15, 6 February 2009 (UTC)
I saw the fanart you uploaded just before I created this (for it was that fanart which reminded me of the uploaded Garland sword last night; wanted to see if it was in the article) so yeah -- this discussion is about Final Fantasy articles; noted the topic where you wrote "Absolutely no fanart, just official images (you never know, people do lack common sense after all)" which is an "anti-fanart" statement. Seriously why would I say you were against fanart in general in a discussion which is only about in FFWiki articles? Wouldn't help the matter. Although there's no case to argue, just using this as a sort of defense.  I Lion Heart I 14:20, 6 February 2009 (UTC)

Terrible fanart? Pfft. It's a to scale replica of Garland's sword which looks pretty professional to me.  ILHI 17:08, 13 February 2009 (UTC)

Interesting fact, his exclusive weapons (Ogrekiller, Viking Axe, and Gigantaxe) are the giant-slaying weapons from FFI, FFII, and FFIII, respectively. This was information that was apparantly deemed unworthy for the trivia section, however. :/ FF-Suzaku 10:45, 16 April 2009 (UTC)

It does share some characteristics with First Tsurugi, though I don't think Cloud could ever pull off looking like Garland nor would he ever add chains to his sword... --Mjka 16:11, August 5, 2010 (UTC)

No Original Moves Edit

To clarify that:

Emperor - Starfall, Cyclone, Flare
CoD - various Particle Beams
Golbez - Twin Meteor, Binding Cold, Black Fang
Exdeath - all HP attacks
Kefka - most attacks
Sephiroth - Heartless Angel, Super Nova, Shadow Flare
Ultimecia - all HP attacks
Kuja - Flare Star, Ultima, Holy (Star)
Jecht - Ultimate Jecht Shot, Triumphant Grasp
Gabranth - Innocence, Guilt, Sentence, Judgement

And there you are, Garland is the only villain who doesn't share any attacks with his original counterpart, though to be fair his counterpart doesn't have any real attacks to share... Drake Clawfang 18:16, 29 July 2009 (UTC)

There is no point in mentioning this, since his original counterpart didn't have any attack. However, it might be worth noting that all his HP attacks were attacks used by Chaos in FF1. Moguta 18:21, 29 July 2009 (UTC)
That is noted, and his original counterpart had attacks, just physical ones, also noted. Drake Clawfang 18:26, 29 July 2009 (UTC)

Swearing Edit

I read somewhere that Garland actually swears if he loses, is it true and is that really important enough to add into the article? --Mjka 16:12, August 5, 2010 (UTC)

I actually think it's pretty obvious that someone at Square-Enix reads 8-Bit Theater--note that Penelo thinks Garland's actually a softie, and he was revealed to be a massive one in 8BT. 216.121.183.75 21:37, March 25, 2011 (UTC)

Garland's 3rd costume Edit

I was right it's the amano artwork http://img828.imageshack.us/img828/8/img0069kt.jpg Sorceror bobby 12:13, January 18, 2011 (UTC)

A pic that big should be behind an url. But huh, that is interesting, because there has been that debate whether or not that Amano artwork is even supposed to be Garland or not...Keltainentoukokuu 12:41, January 18, 2011 (UTC)
It wasn't supposed to be Garland. It was Cloudsea Djinn, a creature that was a concept creature and was not used in the final game. Now it is used. The Vagrant 12:50, January 18, 2011 (UTC)
http://finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/File:VERY_RARE_Amano_artwork_of_Chaos.jpg <--theres a link to the image its based on, if anyone wants to add that to the article Mewizkuit 13:21, January 18, 2011 (UTC)

Except that as I explain [1] here, it most likely IS Garland after all. If you're too lazy to go, note that first off, there's no reason to redraw an unused creature design for the loading screen of the game, and it has the same earrings as Garland's Dissidia design, so Nomura obviously drew from it when redesigning Garland. Dazuro 02:07, January 20, 2011 (UTC)

Where did Famitsu confirm it? DoreikuKuroofangu 21:19, January 30, 2011 (UTC)

Image caption: "天野喜孝氏のイラストがモチーフとなっている、ガーランドのサードフォームはインパクト大! 新技である“フレアー”は、剣で叩き付けると同時に爆発を起こすHP攻撃だ". According to the IRC bot, "Motif has become an illustration of Mr. Amano Yoshitaka, a third form of Garland impact! The new technique is "flared" The explosion at the same time they throw a sword attack HP". I'm in full favor of declaring this "Cloudsea Djinn" art Garland, but I can tell now the detractors (Henry) will point out they said Garland's alt was based on an Amano art, but didn't say it was an Amano art of Garland. (EDIT) the other problem Nomura's said that Garland had no Amano art originally. He could just mean he didn't have any Amano art of Garland as we know him (armored knight), but...yeah. DoreikuKuroofangu 21:38, January 30, 2011 (UTC)

Well, Andriasang directly reported that it was based on art of Garland. It's possible that the magazine had different information from the website? Andriasang has been used as a reliable source in the past... Dazuro 21:44, January 30, 2011 (UTC)

Well it isn't Adriasang so much as it is Famitsu, Adriasang is just translating the info, and there's no question that Famitsu is reliable. DoreikuKuroofangu 21:51, January 30, 2011 (UTC)

Trivia SectionEdit

In Exdeath's Dissidia page it says that his 2nd Alternate is the first time in the series where he is seen without his armor. Shouldn't the same be true for garland as well?

We don't know if that's what Garland really looks like under his armour, wheras Exdeath's 2ns Alt is more or less what he really looks like under his shell.
^opinion!
No. We don't know what Garland looks like under his armour. None of the remakes of Final Fantasy have shown him out of armour. 207.216.197.154 18:23, May 22, 2011 (UTC)
I don't see a relevance to your comment, none of the remakes have shown Exdeath without his armour either.
Fair enough. Penelo says that his 2nd Alt is what he really looks like under his armour, but how canon Dissidia is in relation to the first Final Fantasy is unknown. If that is his true appearance, he's wearing different armour because there's no way those shoulders would fit into his pauldrons. 207.216.222.107 19:32, August 14, 2011 (UTC)

Garland and Feral Chaos Edit

Just curious if it should be noted if it hasn't already that Garland hasn't been killed off by Feral Chaos like the rest of the warriors. I just think that this is mention worthy.

For purposes of storyline, Garland has been killed - the reports mention every Warrior being killed with no mention of Garland being spared. Him being used as an Assist is an oddity, but it doesn't strictly mean he's still alive, as specters of the other characters appear on the world map. DoreikuKuroofangu 08:00, April 3, 2011 (UTC)
Technically Garland IS Chaos, and thus he is Feral Chaos, but Dissidia and Duodecium evidently contradict each other in terms of how Garland is related to Chaos. Dissidia maintains the same connection as in Final Fantasy, that Garland transforms into Chaos through the powers of Dischord, but in Duodecium that is apparently reconned so that Chaos was an artificial life form that Garland manipulated into fighting Cosmos on Cid's orders. It's really confusing and I dunno which to believe myself. 207.216.197.154 07:45, May 9, 2011 (UTC)

Was there a cg render before the dissidia games?
