Gilgamesh: Enough expository banter!
This talk page is used for discussing improvements to the page "Fortress". It is not the place for general discussion or sharing stories about the topic of this article.

Hmm, interesting. All you (Moguta) know is the codename? I wish we could find out if it was to be released under the Final Fantasy name (i.e. Final Fantasy: Fortress or something). Can you link us to a site which covers this game? 8bit 00:33, 21 August 2009 (UTC)

This thread here [1] has basically all known information. It's pretty recent, I hope more stuff is found. Moguta 00:42, 21 August 2009 (UTC)
Hm...I suppose this might end up being rather interesting...I would like to see a platform sequel of XII (10-1 says that "Fortress" is a codename/working title)...I cannot help but wonder if Ashe will be the only returning character. Exdeath64 17:30, September 23, 2009 (UTC)

Sounds more like a Vagrant Story considering it sounds just like a single location game, only more FF-oriented this time. 19:13, October 1, 2009 (UTC)

Canceled??[edit source]

I think a new company is now working on it, so no it's not cancelled.Wikiguy 07:18, April 6, 2010 (UTC)

I don't think the article is very clear at all that the development of anything posted on the article was axed. If they got this title a new developer, all of this material would still be scrapped. They would have to start all over again. The fact that the developer published this material after being 'given the heel' shows that none of this can be used in the game production any longer. All of this concept art is from the cancelled project. The images are interesting, but no longer part of the project, because they are the property of the developer that was sacked. The 'image of the week' doesn't mention this either. It gives the impression as if these concept arts would actually be of the game Fortress, when they are only images of the version that will never see the light of day. Keltainentoukokuu 14:34, May 25, 2010 (UTC)Keltainentoukokuu

Actually, it all belongs to Square-Enix, since it was work done on a licensed property, so they are still free to use whatever of it they feel like. 00:29, October 11, 2010 (UTC)
    • What are the chances of this game actually ever being released? 21:14, January 4, 2011 (UTC)

Video[edit source]

Shouldn't we remove the video? I mean we do use videos, but not for that kind of thing. If someone really want it here, it should get link, nothing more.—Kaimi (999,999 CP/5 TP) 19:26, June 2, 2011 (UTC)

Motomu Toriyama's E3 interview[edit source]

"At an interview at E3 2011, Fortress was officially declared to be "suspended" by Motomu Toriyama, director of Final Fantasy XIII and Final Fantasy XIII-2, claiming that it will "never be released"."

It's actually a fake interview. Toriyama didn't comment on Fortress. Bluetash 09:08, June 14, 2011 (UTC)

Does anyone even have a link to this interview, fake or not? Doreiku Kuroofangu 14:08, June 14, 2011 (UTC)
[2] I do. I wrote it into the article, after all. I don't just make stuff up. Videogamer might though. --BlueHighwind 14:17, June 14, 2011 (UTC)
This link should be in the article. The original sentence (above) was incredibly vague. Rozan Shōryūha 15:13, June 14, 2011 (UTC)
The "closed door" thing sounds suspicious, this isn't much a big deal so why make it a secret? Anyway, unless someone can provide evidence we shouldn't trust that source, it can't hurt to say in the article "Videogamer reported that Toriyama says the game has been cancelled". Doreiku Kuroofangu 15:45, June 14, 2011 (UTC)
Thing is people have already said it was canceled. I don't think a single no-name site (or at least not one I'd heard of until now) is a reliable enough source to put up info over, especially when claiming exclusive info. If the story can be traced to one spot, as in if it's already spread, well, Fox News reported on an Onion story before. Let's not be Fox News. This is supposed to be a secret project. If it got dropped, why tell anyone, much less only one person? Let's wait for an actual reliable source on it. Bluestarultor Best-of Stellar Arena sigicon.png BSA 21:07, June 14, 2011 (UTC)
If it is a "secret project" they will NEVER announce it cancelled, because it was never announced to begin with. If we never hear from this game again we should assume it is cancelled. I mean what the hell. My 2p is here will never be an official source that will ever talk about this game ever again.Keltainentoukokuu 00:28, June 15, 2011 (UTC)
Why are you people finding it so hard to believe that the project has been cancelled? It's been in development limbo for years, and videogamer has always been really reliable. I don't see what the harm in changing it to reflect the most likely fate of the project.Haeralis the Brave 21:05, June 18, 2011 (UTC)
Because it's only one place saying it, and that it was an exclusive piece of info no less, when there's no reason for it to have been. If the game was canceled, why only release it to one person "behind closed doors," especially when it's a game that quite frankly most people don't even know exists? It makes no sense. It's not our place to decide what the "likely" fate of a game is, but to provide accurate known info. Bluestarultor Best-of Stellar Arena sigicon.png BSA 01:40, June 19, 2011 (UTC)
The known info is the project seen on this page is cancelled, referring to all the pictures and this stuff, because otherwise the previous developer wouldn't dare put it out online for people to see (it wasn't really leaked as much as put out blatantly). It should probably be more obvious from the text...Keltainentoukokuu 02:30, June 19, 2011 (UTC)
Oh come Bluestarultor, your being a bit paranoid. Why would a web site that has been consistently reliable just flat out lie for no reason? It makes no sense. And regarding the "behind closed doors" thing, have you ever considered that it's because they were the only ones who thought to ask (It wouldn't surprise me, since it's a fairly unknown project)?

User:Haeralis the Brave 19:18, June 19, 2011 (UTC)

Call me paranoid if you wish. It's not the first time my caution has caused a stir. The fact is that it's not good enough to be confirmation and should not be listed as such. Drake and I talked about it on IRC, but I'll say it here: it should not be reported as fact, but the report isn't undeserving of mention in and of itself. The report is now listed on the page appropriately - as an unconfirmed report. Bluestarultor Best-of Stellar Arena sigicon.png BSA 23:47, June 19, 2011 (UTC)

EDIT: Also, welcome to the world of news. People fabricate information all the time for our infotainment. The American news industry is a cesspool of spin, suppression, and outright fabrication. A jaded view, yes, but it's true. I don't trust news of any kind until I have more than one source to try to piece together the real story. Bluestarultor Best-of Stellar Arena sigicon.png BSA 23:53, June 19, 2011 (UTC)

I hope it isn't cancelled... the bigger one being if it was indeed cancelled that means that GRIN went bankrupt for nothing!! And Square would never sink that low. If Square forced a company into bankruptcy because of one game the least they could do is finish it. I mean... when Bethesda bought the rights to the Fallout franchise from the then bankrupt Interplay (Who never got to finish their own version of Fallout 3) Bethesda at least rescued the storyboards for the unfinished game and put them into "Fallout: New Vegas" Moogleknight24 15:11, June 26, 2011 (UTC)Moogleknight24

I agree. I think the world of Ivalice is the best world in the Final Fantasy universe. I think it would look amazing on the playstation 3! especially if it was a live action game and with returning characters that we already know and love. 14:14, July 5, 2011 (UTC)

FFXII, no doubt about it.[edit source]

I think the gameplay and story will be similar to Final Fantasy XII (or Final Fantasy XII: International Zodiac Job System or Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings. So let's cross our fingers on any of these both) with new elements of course. :) Reply ASAP. --Ethanthegamer 03:11, November 7, 2011 (UTC)

As far as we know, it has been canceled. We'll know more if they decide to bring the series back, all I know is that it was a douche move by Square that caused a company to go bankrupt. AmbieSushi 03:13, November 7, 2011 (UTC)
Square is Dead. Long live Square. Anyway, this immediatly reminded me of the fort condor battles in FF7, as if you were controlling the soldiers from the 3rd person, rather than as little silly sprites. 06:17, January 9, 2012 (UTC)

Edit Warring[edit source]

I don't see the problem with Jonathan's edits. Mr. Anon, would you care to explain? Doreiku Kuroofangu 21:56, February 21, 2012 (UTC)

Examining the two revisions further, the note about the music leak can stay, there's no need to source a YouTube video since the video itself is its own source, and there's nothing wrong with embedding that vid on the page. Doreiku Kuroofangu 22:03, February 21, 2012 (UTC)
I don't get what your point is. You just changed it to EXACTLY what I originally had. Literally word for word, lol. So thanks for that! =) 22:27, February 21, 2012 (UTC)
P.S. if you're confused, look at my original edit. I think you're getting different edits confused. I don't think you're good to moderate the two conflicting edits, since you seem to entirely agree with me...but ah welll
Well I didn't go "word for "word" if you'll look closer, but semantics are a pointless thing to argue. As long as the edit war is done. Doreiku Kuroofangu 22:31, February 21, 2012 (UTC)
Kk, understood. 22:42, February 21, 2012 (UTC)

Valiant Saga: FINAL FANTASY[edit source]

I was recently looking for new FF news and came across an interesting article about a rumoured FFXII sequel game. Here is the link to the article. Moreover, there is even a twitter account for the game and an image which seems relatively official with a pretty official looking logo. Here is a link to the image. It is being developed at Eidos and given the synopsis, Ashe seems to be the only returning player. Although the synopsis seems to be around a different plot, could it be possible that Fortress is going ahead, simply under a different name? COOLAWITS ~TALK | YFC | XVI | DQFF~ 10:57, May 26, 2012 (UTC)

They might have developed on the idea for a game they had, but otherwise doubt they'd be using any old assets. Fortress was a much better name though.Keltainentoukokuu 15:29, May 26, 2012 (UTC)
I sure hope this is true! I'd be sooo excited! 05:06, May 30, 2012 (UTC)
