International[]
Do you all think that the International Version will be playable on US xbox's? I know some japanese region games can but not all of them. I really hope they do because they said they were going to add some content that was cut from the initial release. I'd like to see that since this is my fav in the series. Siegleeagle
Soundtrack Trivia[]
In the trivia section it mentions that FFXIII is the first game in the series where the Prelude and the Victory Fanfare themes are nowhere to be heard. Isn't this also the case for the Main Theme of Final Fantasy as well, or was that not in a previous game and I just missed it?

- "Battle Results" is actually the "Victory Fanfare" and is more reminiscent of FF8's, in that "Battle Results" fulfills that role, without using the trumpeting instrumentation, instead using alternative instrumentation to fit the musical score of the game. 75.194.103.193 16:18, February 9, 2012 (UTC)
- The closest hint of a track resembling Prelude hint is in "The Promise", in the way that the piano instrumental seems to travel the scales in a meandering and dissonant way (again with the musical score's character and also a sort of lingering character from FF XII's rather dissonant re-interpretations), in the way that the Prelude gets a techno-ish overhaul in FFX (but you can still clearly hear the instrumentation). 75.194.103.193 16:18, February 9, 2012 (UTC)

There's a slight issue with porting current-gen console games to PC in that it might be difficult if the CPUs differ. Both the PS3 and 360 have in-order processing, which may not be true for a PC CPU. Aside from that, the system requirements would be sky-high, because the benefit of programming for a console is that you don't have to worry about resource-sharing, so to play it on the PC would probably require some sort of hypothetical quantum space-computer to meet the minimum requirements. - Nah, modern x86 CPUs may be out-of-order internally but the external interface is effectively in-order. Doesn't make any difference as long as your compiler works properly (and actually gives the PC a slight increase in performance at the expense of a more complicated chip design). Given that PCs are already significantly more powerful than the PS3/360 in CPU and GPU processing, with gobs more memory the "resource requirements" argument makes no sense either (nor is "resource sharing" an issue - games take over the machine for all practical purposes). Add to that the fact that most console games are initially developed on PCs or Macs in the prototyping stages (especially 360 development) and the "impossible" argument just falls out the door. The real argument is simple - the console games market is about 10 times the PC games market and most PC owners have a console of some sort, so the cost benefit of releasing on PC is just not a compelling thing for a game that would really see no benefit. One thing to take note of, however, is gaming systems have a very limited range in their performance. Granted, graphics of games might improve throughout the system's life span as technology improves, but, for the most part, systems are trapped within the confines of their initial hardware. Computers on the other hand have a VERY wide range of performances, given the vast array of hardware on the market. There are computers which have absolutely no gaming capacity, while cutting edge specialized gaming computers can watch an 8 way free-for-all zerg rush with ultra graphics settings on SC2 and still get a good frame rate. While I'd love to see FF XIII on the computer (because I could probably play it without having to get an X-box 360), it doesn't seem all that likely.
Also, Square Enix is an Asian company. In the west, we have an equal split of gaming systems and PCs, where over there, it's mostly the systems and computers are in offices or internet cafes. Tanooki1432 01:09, August 2, 2010 (UTC)

- I find it intriguing that you are asking about Europe only and not Asia or the rest of the planet. Asking on an English-language wiki might also get relatively biased results. Anyways, while I don't live in Europe, my perspective of the upcoming Traditional Chinese text/subtitle release (with Japanese voice) in Asia is that most people in the Asian market are used to watching movies/TV and playing video games that are voiced in a different language, and they are quite used to reading sub-titles, so it wouldn't distract them from the game. It doesn't quite answer the question you asked, but provides a similar case study. 360 Differences[]

There's more to translating something that just translating it. You have to have the lyrics fit back into the song's meter, tempo and rhyme and have them make sense | |||
By the tranlated lyrics, KGIK fits FF13's theme perfectly while My Hands sounds like something for a live-action romantic film. It doesn't go with the game's themes of miracles, dreams, destiny, and the future. | |||

Methinks the vocal range of "Kimi ga Iru Kara" is too narrow to yield to Sugawara's singing capability. She lacks the treble as Lewis. Though I don't think "My Hands" is a good choice, lyric-wise. Lyric of "Kimi ga Iru Kara" is more customized to the story/theme of FF13. | ||||
I think I've heard a reason for Square choosing "My Hands" was because of a certain scene in the game. The only scene I can think of that makes any sense is at the very end, where Fang and Vanille are holding hands while crystallized. But that still doesn't mean that the song will be right for the moment, it doesn't even go with the rest of the game's music. | |||
I spoke with Kitase at the launch in London and apparently it was because Sugawara had trouble singing the translated version, but that's still a pretty poor excuse; they could have just asked someone else to sing it. | |||

Just look at how they treated the English version of "1000 Words" back in X-2. The musician had to alter the melody to fit the new lyric. That makes this version an awkward immitation to the original JP version. | ||||

Battle system[]
Here (and the Battle system page) it mentions how the JP demo refered to the battle system as "Command Synergy Battle". Thing is, now that the final product is out and in English, does anyone recall the battle system being given a specific name? Plot Summary Issue[]
The summary given for the game's plot suggests that Barthandelus is the one speaking to the party during their first confrontation with Orphan. Given that it refers to itself in the plural and that Orphan's actual voice doesn't seem to be used until his second confrontation, this could very well be correct, but is there any confirmation on this?
If I remember correctly, the subtitles refer to Orphan as the speaker during these scenes, but I'm not entirely sure. The article on Orphan assumes that he is the one saying these lines/torturing Fang, as well.
- The parts of the first form that I refer to as the "wheel" and the "child's face" are specifically Orphan's second (and true) form embedded into a shell, which in turn is just an extension of Orphan's "body" created out of spare parts salvaged from Barthandelus/Menvra. If you listen to Orphan's first form, you can actually hear at least two voices layered together. The reason for the plural pronouns may be that, as a composite construct, the first form does contain physical pieces of Orphan and Barthandelus/Menvra – but there is no other trace remaining of Barthandelus/Menvra as beings in their own right. But I could be completely wrong... this is just my interpretation based what I've read/heard in the game, as well as stuff I've read on the wiki and in the Piggyback guide -- 15:28, May 22, 2010 (UTC)
- Yeah, I heard several voices layered together too. What I believe is that the combination of Orphan, Barthandelus, and Menvra are speaking as one being. When the first form is destroyed, Barthandelus and Menvra are destroyed as well, but they protected Orphan enough so that it could be destroyed by the l'Cie. The Disc Changes[]

- I don't have an XBox, so I can't answer the first question. As to the second question, given that the game was written for the PS3 and ported to the XBox, I would not be surprised if you can only load game saves while disk 1 is in. Battle Voice Acting Bug/Glitch[]
Recently I discovered that after certain events (presumably after Fang joins the party) a strange bug/glitch appears: it considers battle acting in battle, e.g.: when MED heals anyone, "Thank you." can be heard in the background said by Fang even though she is not presented as battle party member. Another example is "Agh!", Hope's words when hit: it also spoils in battle even though he is not present in battle party. Is it consider mentioning or making new article? P.S.: I encounter it in PAL version, but I think NTSC have it as well, as PAL was nothing else ported to PAL region and no changes made at all.

Connections/Allusions To Final Fantasy X?[]
I think there are connection/allusions to Final Fantasy X as we can see crystal shards ascending in front of entrance to Edenhall, possible referring to pyreflies. And this Door of Souls with afterlife; is a possible reference to the Farplane? - Similar concepts are also in FFVII and FFIX. In FFVII you turn into "spirit energy" when you die and return to the Planet. In FFIX you also turn into spirit energy and return to the planet's crystal. In FFX you turn into type of spirit energy, called pyreflies, and return to the planet in a place called the Farplane. In FFXIII you turn into crystal energy when you die, but don't return to planet, but "go to heaven". I think all FF games have the similar cycle of life and death. Sequel?[]
Is there going to be a sequel to FFXIII or will the epilogue packet in the upcoming Japanese Ulitimate Hit release (or whatever its proper name is) cover everything post-game?
- Final Fantasy didn't become Final Fantasy by cranking out a bunch of direct sequels. Aside from all the stuff related to VII, the only example is X-2, and that failed hard enough they decided to scrap their plans for an X-3 about Rikku. So no, there will probably not be a sequel, nor will there necessarily even be more after the ending of the game, especially for us not lucky enough to live in Japan. Sorry. - Well, at least the argument still holds for FF8. Square doesn't much care about answering questions unless it's going to make them loads of money, which is a sound financial policy and I don't blame them for it. FF7 and FFX are the two most popular titles of the series (7 abroad, X in Japan), so it's pretty natural they got sequels. FF13 has mixed reactions at best. It might have sold fast, especially due to being on multiple consoles, but whether public reaction would support a sequel is something Square would need to gauge.

- Don't get me wrong, I would totally preorder FF13-2. If my head is getting flooded with ideas of what they could do with it, I'm sure there's material enough for Square to work with. I'm just not sure Square would be able to justify the risk, especially when so little of the world could be used. You could reuse stuff from Cocoon, but you'd have to justify it, especially when the logical approach would be to explore Pulse more. I never finished myself, but didn't people all migrate down there at the end? It would be a lot of resources in the way, as opposed to X-2, where they could reuse absolutely everything. Making the resources is what eats time and budget.

Cocoon's fate in-game hint[]
I just watched trailer for Final Fantasy XIII and then I got hit by an idea. Do you remember the scene in Chapter 9. where Lightning and Snow are talking about Serah? End of this cutscene hints the the fate of Cocoon (link: watch 0:22÷0:29, the crystal spikes of the tree seems to connect "the moon" with the planet). - I like aspects of FFXIII, mainly the themes and "philosophy". Sequel though...I think it would be a cop-out if they could still use magic, as that would still mean they are still part l'Cie, which would go against the theme set in the original game. Glitch?[]
I was reading about XIII on the wiki and it said there was a freezing bug that could destroy the PS3
I have never played XIII and despite I heard negative things about it I want to see what the game's like for myself. Yet I am too paranoid to buy it because of the aforementioned glitch.

Japanese Final Fantasy XIII update[]
Greetings, I am new here (not really new since I read FF Wikia since some years ago). Not sure if this talk page is still active. I am mainly playing Japanese game exclusively (what the others call weeaboo without thinking if that person knows/accustomised with Japanese - though I don't like the name weeaboo attached to me). This is not just because I love Japanese version better than English, but because I live in two regions, Europe and Asia (where Japanese version of the game is dominant - not counting the bootlegs here, which I never bother to buy them). I just want to point out about the Japanese update. The update disables the trick of preemptive attack to the Ochu at the steppe (I heard it does not work with English and Chinese version of the game). Also the update disables the R1 menu when walking to access the "Smoke" menu. I hope someone can add these to the Trivia about the Japanese update (besides enabling Easy Mode). - It is up to the editors. I do not want to edit the article. I prefer reading it. I simply give the information that this article still lacks. If you are saying that this article covers the english localisation, don't you think it is best to remove all trivia and bits about Japanese version? That it's from me. The game got unholy flak for basically being different than most other games, particularly from a gaming media that praises anything that pays them enough but is quick to bash say the SaGa series for not spoonfeeding the plot enough.
But FFXIII is the first jrpg to basically strip away the illusion of non-linearity that a world map and such provides. In the past while the illusion was there, linearity was maintained by a combination of strong monsters and the fact that going to a town early wouldn't advance the main plotline (maybe a few sub quests if you're lucky). True non-linearity is rare in jrpgs unlike western RPGs (which have become the popular thing at the moment despite Bioware basically undoing the basic wRPG principles)
The second section are elements that are more common in niche series, such as Leader death ending the game (Shin Megami Tensei), or AI controlled allies (Tales, Persona 3). Funny enough is that unlike the two series, the AI allies in FFXIII aren't prone to completely moronic moves.
Not enough people appreciate the progressive (if flawed) approach to the series.

In the main article, it says that "there are no Limit Breaks because of the unique summoning powers, and that there is no way to escape from battles once they're initiated." Yet from playing the game, those both appear to be wrong. You can leave a battle at any time by selecting Retry after pausing, and the damage limit can be broken, either with Eidolons or the Genji Glove accessory, so should this be corrected? | |||
