Gilgamesh: Enough expository banter!
This talk page is used for discussing improvements to the page "Final Fantasy VI timeline". It is not the place for general discussion or sharing stories about the topic of this article.

Layout[]

I changed the layout to be similar to the VII timeline layout. Most of the info is a direct translation so it may need to be re-written to make it not sound as stiff. I'm still new to using the Wiki so I may need some help adding pictures, specifically the actual picture from the Settei Shiryou Hen from the link I gave. Everytime I try to put it in, it keeps it as its humungous size. I'll keep reading the guides to help polish this up.

Discrepancies[]

Since their are some discrepancies with other sources, should we create a section on that? Wolf Kanno True Beauty Exists Only in Things that Last a Moment 01:12, July 31, 2012 (UTC)

I think there should be a section like that, to collect all official data on the timeline.Keltainentoukokuu (talk) 01:17, July 31, 2012 (UTC)

Well off the top of my head, in-game, depending on if you view the flashback in the WoB or WoR, Edgar mentions their father died ten years ago, as opposed to the seven of the timeline. The timeline doesn't give much else it seems so I'm unsure if there's anything else. Doreiku Kuroofangu 01:35, July 31, 2012 (UTC)

I know their is an issue concerning Gestahl's age. The timeline has him as 72 years old by the start of VI, but the 20th Anniversary Ultimania Character guide puts him at 50. Honestly, looking at his character design I would argue the 72 is more accurate but the 20th Anniversary Ultimania most likely just retconned it.Interesting enough, there is an American FFIII guide that also lists a poorly translated version of the Timeline. Wolf Kanno True Beauty Exists Only in Things that Last a Moment 02:03, July 31, 2012 (UTC)

The 20th Anniversary Ultimania goes off his age from the Settei books. He actually is universally listed as 50 years old in every book that mentions his age specifically as a part of a character bio. The only place that implies he is 72 years old is the timeline, where it says he was born as an heir to a military family 72 years before the game begins (-72 帝国のガストラが軍事参謀の家の跡継ぎとして誕生), and then became Emperor at 52 years old, 20 years before the game begins (-20 帝国のガストラ、52歳にして皇帝に). The fact that the timeline sets his age at 72 years old not just once, but two times at two different time periods is unsettling to be sure. It implies it was no mere typo, but that he really was intended to be 72 years old by whoever came up with the time line to begin with. The only conclusion I can come to is that two different people/groups were involved with character details and global events, and thus discrepancies crept in here and there, as with the death of the king of Figaro. I don't think there are any other discrepancies actually, since most of the other timeline stuff is found solely in the timelines, and nowhere else. Espritduo (talk) 02:21, July 31, 2012 (UTC)

100 years later[]

...Ultros finally paid off his debt to the owner of the Dragon's Neck Coliseum, and could quit his receptionist job.[1]

(I won't add it to the timelime, but goddammit, do I want to!) CrappyScrap (talk) 16:39, 8 October 2021 (UTC)

Well, it can be cited, so you could put something like "The owner of Dragon's Neck Coliseum speculates that by this time, Ultros will have paid off his debts to him." DrakeyC (talk) 15:02, 9 October 2021 (UTC)
  1. Final Fantasy VI, NPC: He couldn't pay his debt, so I put him to work! I figure he'll be here about another 100 years.
