Gilgamesh: Enough expository banter!
This talk page is used for discussing improvements to the page "Final Fantasy VIII items". It is not the place for general discussion or sharing stories about the topic of this article.

Seeing as there's no Refine List.....I'm actually thinking, should I go ahead and make a Refine article since I don't see one? I was thinking of merging it with this, but then comes the problem of telling what refines into what with which ability....^^; Xenomic 02:58, 17 May 2009 (UTC)

I could help if you like?Yuffie2211

If you so choose. Though think we should do it here or do a separate page for it? I'm voting for the latter of the two, since now that I think about it, it'd be easier to do that way. I can revert the edits I did here and we can make that page if you want to work on it together? ^^; Xenomic 03:05, 17 May 2009 (UTC)

I think we should, considering that it'd be easier to do it that way than junk up this article with too much information. Xenomic 03:18, 17 May 2009 (UTC)

Restructuring

For anyone that wants to help (or CAN considering how fast I seem to work ^^;; ), I'm going to be adding in a Steal, Find, and Win column to this page, since it should have one. I might go ahead and do this to any other FF Item pages that needs it. Then again, I'll let you guys decide on this whole topic at hand (I was thinking of doing this for each of the Items pages, since it'd give more information on them and whatnot). In the meantime, I'm going to work on the Synthesis list for FFIX ^^:b Xenomic 05:01, 18 May 2009 (UTC)

Yes. I was doing some for List of Final Fantasy IV: The After Years Items when I realise that both the enemy steal treasure source and the item list source were incomplete. Template:ILHI 15:50, 18 May 2009 (UTC)

Alright boys, I have this set up. I'll probably work on this and then move onto the other item pages. Also, still need someone to finish the List of Final Fantasy Spells page, since I believe it was you Jeppo who said that you were going to bring stuff over there no? ^^;; Xenomic 02:44, 19 May 2009 (UTC)

EDIT: Also.....I'm going to need to figure out a way to do the Legends chart for this page for the Win and Steal column. I saw one on the Enemy Templates, but I'm not sure how to set that up here. I'm going to use those as the backbone for these to make it easier to do this. ^^;; Xenomic 02:49, 19 May 2009 (UTC)

Links to enemies

What do you think about linking all enemies' names to it's enemy pages? Its tiring to look up on three different lists just to know which enemy you need to kill to upgrade your weapon. If there's no problem I could do it. Zak Undersn 21:25, 15 June 2009 (UTC)

One link for the first use of each enemy name. Template:ILHI 21:26, 15 June 2009 (UTC)
I've noticed that Dollet is linked thrice on the first table, is it that way for some reason or is it a mistake? Zak Undersn 13:14, 17 June 2009 (UTC)
No reason. Template:ILHI 16:36, 17 June 2009 (UTC)

Rosetta Stone from card player in D-District Prison

I managed to win a Rosetta Stone from one of the card players during the D-District Prison sequence, should that be mentioned in the "Other" column for methods of acquisition for the Rosetta Stone listing? Or is the item you get from winning determined at random from a list of every item in the game or a smaller, definitive list? I'd assume it would be the latter and thus I think it should be mentioned as a means of acquisition, but I don't know if that's really the case, since if its really the former then it should be automatically assumed to be a potential means of acquisition and thus not necessary to include in the list. Apologies for any unclear/strange wording. 4RM0 22:52, March 18, 2010 (UTC)

You can mention it in the Other column. There is a set list of items you can acquire from each of the three card players, but we'll have to find out which is which. BLUER一番 09:31, March 19, 2010 (UTC)
I figured it was something like that, I just don't remember which card player it was unfortunately >_<. Thanks for the clarification, though. 4RM0 01:30, March 21, 2010 (UTC)
Ah, according to Xenomic its from the 11th floor card player. Thanks to both of you. 4RM0 04:17, March 21, 2010 (UTC)

Well there are tons of things missing from this list, especially the 'other' column. I noticed a Holy War-Trial is all just N/A'ed out. Not sure of the fool who did that, since one can be modified from 10 Hero items. This is just one example, so I'd strongly recommend improvements. Take a look at the Loot Item page under Final Fantasy XII. It is an effective set up for one to look up any particular item. The only difference here would be again the 'Other' column.

There is a disclaimer at the top of the page that says refine and card mod items are not on this list and are on a separate page.Keltainentoukokuu 21:18, February 6, 2011 (UTC)

Luck-J Scroll

This page says you can buy a Luck-J Scroll... from where? I've played through this game several times and I've never been able to buy a Luck-J Scroll, I always had to refine it (Curse Spike x100->Dark Matter x1->Luck-J Scroll). -- EGingell Talk,WoW Pedia 07:02, May 30, 2011 (UTC)

That is more than likely an error, as you cannot buy it. Xenomic 07:05, May 30, 2011 (UTC)
I figured. Could be copy-n-paste or assumption since all of the other <stat>-J Scrolls are each 10,000 Gil. -- EGingell Talk,WoW Pedia 07:12, May 30, 2011 (UTC)

Level notation

Can we please have something more intuitive and memorable than * ^ " to indicate enemy levels? I just don't see the logic in using random symbols when we could do something like, say, L M H for Low, Mid and High. Or possibly even use hover notes -- Sorceror Nobody Flan 08:46, September 24, 2011 (UTC)

I'm all for it (edit: either way is fine). -- EGingell Talk,WoW Pedia 08:56, September 24, 2011 (UTC)
I would use [[#A|[A]]] and then put ":'''A''' - Levels X to X", or however that works. Like Esthar City#Shops and every place that does that. I don't think adding abbr's to every place is worth the time.
Wait, is Low tier, Mid tier, and High tier different for each enemy? I was just looking at Geezard (Final Fantasy VIII), and from the article I can't tell at what level he is each tier. 79.69.196.219 13:41, September 24, 2011 (UTC)
Low is 1-19, mid is 20-29 and high is 30-100. I'm pretty sure there are zero exceptions -- Sorceror Nobody Flan 16:52, September 24, 2011 (UTC)
Ruby Dragons and Elnoyles have their high tier at 45-100 in these lists. I don't know where that info is from.Keltainentoukokuu 16:57, September 24, 2011 (UTC)
Hm, I've just gone through the entire bestiary of the Piggyback guide, and found four exceptions: the boundary between mid and high is 40 rather than 30 for Turtapod, Torama, Imp and Iron Giant; Elnoyle and Ruby Dragon are listed with the boundary at the normal 30. I'm going to check a few other sources next, but... even if we do confirm that there are exceptions, they need not be a significant problem, because they're very much a tiny minority, which we can deal with individually. Alternatively, using the {{foot}} (Mid tier (lvls √394 to 13π)) method would negate this issue completely -- Sorceror Nobody Flan 17:39, September 24, 2011 (UTC)
Can you check at what level you can draw Flare from Ruby Dragon? Because now it says its level 45+ at least in the Flare article ... (and in the draw list because it's taken straight from the Flare article).Keltainentoukokuu 17:44, September 24, 2011 (UTC)
I've just finished going through the bestiary in Absolute Steve's guide (which I'm inclined to consider reliable), and it confirms 40 as the M/H boundary for Turtapod, Torama, Imp and Iron Giant, but also Elnoyle and Behemoth. Ruby Dragon's M/H boundary, meanwhile, is utterly unique, because it is indeed 45. Assuming Steve's guide is accurate, these seven are the only exceptions -- Sorceror Nobody Flan 17:58, September 24, 2011 (UTC)
Even so, it would still be better and more intuitive to use letters instead of arbitrary symbols on the article to denote each tier. -- EGingell Talk,WoW Pedia 18:07, September 24, 2011 (UTC)
Like this? -- EGingell Talk,WoW Pedia 18:17, September 24, 2011 (UTC)

I just noticed these level thresholds are not in the enemies individual articles. How should we do this?Keltainentoukokuu 18:22, September 24, 2011 (UTC)

There are two ways I see it. In an "Other Information" section for each tab, include the levels. And the other way is to have in the Low tier HP (Level 1) and HP (Level 19), in Mid tier have HP (Level 20) and HP (Level 29), and in High tier have HP (Level 30) and HP (Level 100).
It seems strange for me to give the enemy's HP at level 1 when that enemy could not possibly be level 1 with the spells listed.
We'd have to add special parameters for exceptions, but we can do that. 79.69.196.219 18:28, September 24, 2011 (UTC)
The second one seems like a good idea. There's a formula on each enemy page for calculating HP on each level, but then this would be kind of an annoying task for someone to do...Keltainentoukokuu 18:43, September 24, 2011 (UTC)
Name 1 19 20 29 30 100
Geezard 43 151 160 253 265 1840

If I messed around with the infobox and split the "HP formula" into three parameters, I could get the wiki to calculate it for us. I might test it. 79.69.196.219 18:59, September 24, 2011 (UTC)
