Gilgamesh: Enough expository banter!
This talk page is used for discussing improvements to the page "Final Fantasy Trading Card Game". It is not the place for general discussion or sharing stories about the topic of this article.

I actually believe the cards should be listed by serial number rather than name and game, since the game is actually only referred in the copyright list. - Henryacores^ 11:59, June 16, 2011 (UTC)

On top of that, I'd also like to see them sorted by set first rather than type first. If it's too much of a headache to rearrange it like that then no worries, but I find that it helps make it easier to refer to specific cards. (ie it's more clear which cards belong to which set, so you can refer to Chapter I Fang vs Chapter II Fang and not have to go look at the card's collector number.) Strongest card[edit source]

what card is the strongest?

Answer: its gotta be Kain ;) DissidiaGameMaster 14:39, August 2, 2011 (UTC)

I really like the Shine-type Firion. Dude has enough abilities to give Morphling a run for its money. The various versions of Kain are really good at cheaply getting rid of opposing Forwards along with dodging enemy attacks though. But no one ever said you can't have both :D Tursiops 21:30, October 13, 2011 (UTC)

nice![edit source]

so when is this gonna be released in america!? :D

Images[edit source]

Hey! I actually found some more images then the few I just uploaded and added, but...well, I don't know who most of them are, so I don't to upload them. May I post the link so someone else can go collect them? Is that allowed??? ~ TheMoonclaw 06:22, September 2, 2011 (UTC)

Translation?[edit source]

Does anyone have any plans/desires to have the card texts and rules translated into English? I'd be glad to get things started or help out if someone has already begun to do this. I'm currently working on a rules summary, and will start translating cards afterwards.Tursiops 16:57, October 12, 2011 (UTC)

That would be greatly appreciated, thank you. Doreiku Kuroofangu 17:00, October 12, 2011 (UTC)
Rules summary is up. I'm still missing some things, like rules for Parties, but I'll try to get that in soon. Also, this game is pretty similar to Magic: The Gathering and DuelMasters, so I used some terminology used in those games instead of a direct translation for some things, like active/untap and ダル(daru)/tap.Tursiops 18:02, October 12, 2011 (UTC)
It would be amazing if you could translate it. Sounds good.Keltainentoukokuu 18:18, October 12, 2011 (UTC) EDIT:Nice one. I edited the rules a bit; neutral tone is preferred on the wiki as opposed to second person (referring to the player as "you").Keltainentoukokuu 18:36, October 12, 2011 (UTC)
Thanks, most game manuals tend to prefer the active tone, I just wasn't sure which one to go with but neutral sounds good. Also, the rules for parties are a bit confusing (think banding from Magic) so I'm trying to come up with the best way to explain that. In the meantime I'm translating individual cards. EDIT: Also, small revert, I changed the "four" back to "4" when referring to the cost of a card, as it is a printed characteristic of the card and not a count of something. Card games tend to follow this convention (i.e. "discard two cards" vs "deal 3 damage")Tursiops 18:53, October 12, 2011 (UTC)

My shorthand for the card text: F:Fire, I:Ice, A:Wind(Air), E:Earth, L:Lightning, W:Water, T:Tap, S:Special ability cost (Discard a card of the same name), #:Number of generic CP required for this cost.Tursiops 19:26, October 12, 2011 (UTC)

My translation of subtypes (I'm only including ones that I had to actually translate, so I've left out things like ルシ = l'Cie. please feel free to improve):
ガード: Guardian (found on Auron and Jecht, I'm assuming it's referring to a Summoner's guardians)
一般兵: Infantry (found on many backups and generic forwards. maybe something like "infantry" or "footman" would be better?)
拳士: Monk (Tifa's subtype. literally means "fist user" which I thought was close enough to Monk in terms of Final Fantasy)
戦士: Warrior (such as Firion and other dedicated fighters. Higher rank than 一般兵.)
狙撃手: Shooter (Irvine etc)
騎兵隊: Cavalry (as in FFXIII)
魔導戦士: Magitek Elite
幻光体: Phantom (Shuyin)
盟主: Leader (Nooj - please feel free to change this as I'm not too familiar with FFX-2)

It's important to note that these subtypes are pretty much the role of what the card represents from the games and absolutely not heirarchical. - Henryacores^ 21:31, October 12, 2011 (UTC)

Yeah, I know, I meant more that the definition of 戦士 implies a higher rank than 一般兵, and "soldier" is more appropriate for 戦士 so I wanted to find an English word that conveys that 一般兵 is a lower-ranked and expendable fighter. On top of that, some cards specifically refer to card subtypes, so I don't want to have two different types translated the same way. Tursiops 21:36, October 12, 2011 (UTC)
EDIT: I ended up settling on Infantry for 一般兵.Tursiops 16:29, October 13, 2011 (UTC)
Changed 戦士(senshi) to Warrior, since 兵士(heishi) also means "soldier" and fits it better.Tursiops 17:05, October 14, 2011 (UTC)

Done with Fire cards. I might be off with a few Special Ability names, please feel free to correct them or any other mistakes you find. Tursiops 18:37, October 14, 2011 (UTC)

Done with Ice, same deal for fixing ability names.Tursiops 21:11, October 18, 2011 (UTC)
Done with Air. Almost halfway done! Tursiops 23:42, October 20, 2011 (UTC)
Done with Earth. Started adding in notes for low-quality images.Tursiops 19:07, October 24, 2011 (UTC)

Done with Dark. Promos up next. I'll add notes as best as I can about where they come from.Tursiops 21:11, November 1, 2011 (UTC)
Done with promos. On the page for each card is how it was distributed.Tursiops 22:04, November 1, 2011 (UTC)
This was for cards up through set 3. I'm currently working on sets 4 through 6, but it might take a while.Tursiops 17:12, July 4, 2012 (UTC)

Tursiops, if it's not asking much of you, could you please take a look at the details of the TCG's Promotional Cards? I have absolutely no clue about their role or acquisition. - Henryacores^ 21:43, October 20, 2011 (UTC)

Sure, I was going to add those in with the text translations when I got to them. Most of them are magazine inserts or cards from release tournaments and stuff, aside from the game insert ones which are already noted. Some of the nicer promo cards (like the horizontal WoL) are already up to about $80 online so good luck getting your hands on some D: Tursiops 21:51, October 20, 2011 (UTC)
Also here's a link to the official listing of all promo cards from the website: if you wanna run it through a quick translator or something. Which also brings me to another thing - I've noticed that a lot of the card images here are too small to read or otherwise low quality - would it be ok to use the pictures from the official website? They have relatively high resolution digital (ie not scanned) images of each card printed so it'd be an obvious upgrade to the smaller or watermarked images here. Not sure if that's within acceptable use though. Tursiops 21:55, October 20, 2011 (UTC)
I can't see any harm in it. - Henryacores^ 21:57, October 20, 2011 (UTC)
Ok, I didn't make a list or anything of which cards this applies to, but I'll try to start keeping track of which ones can stand to be upgraded. Off the top of my head, the common Aeris and the Chapter I Snow are two of the low-resolution images. Tursiops 22:05, October 20, 2011 (UTC)

I'm also working on trying to figure out how each card would scale to a multiplayer (>2 players) game. A lot of cards say things like "deal X damage to each forward your opponent controls" as though multiplayer was not in the developers' minds. I translated most of these to "your opponentS control" etc, but this might lead to some unbalanced cards. Right now I'm taking it on a case-by-case basis as to whether a card should affect all opponents or only one (if it is unclear), but there might be a few that are a tough call so let me know if you disagree with / have better ideas than what I decided. Tursiops 22:05, October 20, 2011 (UTC)

So I'm done translating the rules and the cards now, and everything is up on the page. If anyone has any questions about the game, such as how to play or any rules clarifications for specific cards, please don't hesitate to ask me. Let's cross our fingers for a release outside Japan!Tursiops 22:04, November 1, 2011 (UTC)

I really hope they will be released outside Japan... LegendCrystarium Crystal Lightning.pngAqua 22:06, November 1, 2011 (UTC)

we should make a collapsible gallery for the cards. ANyways, i'll upload the rest when i have time sΓΣamyGoreng 22:54, January 16, 2012 (UTC)

Awesome. I'll start translating as soon as I can.Tursiops 23:01, January 16, 2012 (UTC)

There is an unpopular Final Fantasy TCG wikia that has a lot of cards translated. They're just missing the Ice and Water cards. I think they stopped working on it and the wikia is dead. Aionc 07:09, February 6, 2012 (UTC)

I'm currently working on translating sets 4 through 6.Tursiops 00:53, July 5, 2012 (UTC)

Set 4 Fire done. Tursiops 00:53, July 5, 2012 (UTC)

set 4[edit source]

The page is getting crowded[edit source]

Most of the new cards don't even show up anymore. I guess the image limit for galleries has been reached? Miyuron (talk) 13:51, October 8, 2012 (UTC)

I broke the galleries up into smaller ones, so now all the cards show. But I don't know how to use toclimit to make the TOC legible (if we retain the subheaders; could just toss them). --EskayFlying (talk) 19:56, October 8, 2012 (UTC)
It remains a really long page, and we should be being aware of the number of images we're making readers load in order to read the rules. Possibly break the galleries out into a separate page? --EskayFlying (talk) 19:56, October 8, 2012 (UTC)
I will do that. IIRC, the limit is 140, for future reference.C A T U S E 22:32, October 9, 2012 (UTC)

What is P?[edit source]

In the original Chapter sets, in Chapter13+ they introduce a new rarity of "P", as in 13-015P. What is P? I don't think it's Promotion, promotional cards have their own section of the site and none of these are there. There's also the possibility of Premium, but that's what they use to refer to Foil/Shiny/Holo cards. Then there's Parallel. This one has some credence because these cards have alternate versions. The Opus decks have Parallel cards which are two cards that have the same artwork (one of which usually being promotional). But Chapter has Promotional cards that are alternate artwork version of normal cards too.

Except, from what I've seen on suruga-ya at least, it seems the versions without the background to the text might only be used for the Premium/shiny cards, which ends up lending more credit to Premium than Parallel. But if that were the case, and that was the only things that made these cards special, then why create an entirely new rarity for it!

I can't seem to find anything on the internet, English or Japanese. But someone must have asked this question somewhere... or Square must have said something about these cards when releasing Chapter 13 surely.? JBed (talk) 08:45, July 14, 2018 (UTC)

I've finally discovered that it means "Platinum Rare". JBed (talk) 19:08, March 28, 2019 (UTC)
