Gilgamesh: Enough expository banter!
This talk page is used for discussing improvements to the page "Final Fantasy IV items". It is not the place for general discussion or sharing stories about the topic of this article.

The way I see it, there are three ways we can do this: Feature SNES, PS, GBA and DS names; Feature SNES and DS names; Feature just DS names. --There are differences in item names between SNES and PS. There are differences in item names between PS and GBA. There are differences in item names between GBA and DS. --So I've came up with two ideas to represent all games. They both have plus-sides and bad-sides. Mainly, they don't look that visually pleasing.

Unless we have any other ideas, there are five different ways to show the page.  I Lion Heart I 16:48, 3 January 2009 (UTC)

I like the four columns-one row. It looked neat and easy to read ^^ - SilverSummonerTaLk 16:55, 3 January 2009 (UTC)

I've just created the other three for a full comparison. It depends whether we go for design over content. If anyone can give any ideas, 'twould be appreciated.  I Lion Heart I 17:13, 3 January 2009 (UTC)

I give a thumbs-up to the four columns-one row as well. The only thing would be that the rows would be a bit obese in some cases (Tent), but it's not really a problem. 8bit 18:05, 3 January 2009 (UTC)

Outside Suggestion[edit source]

I have an alternative solution that might work, if you guys are still not liking the aesthetics of so many rows: have one row for names, but separate them with "/"s. Here's an example:

Name (SNES / PS / GBA / DS) Effect
_ / Alarm / Alarm Clock / Alarm Clock Heals the Sleep status effect.

The reason why I think this works well is that a lot of these names are going to be quite similar, so it's hard to justify making separate columns for them, which takes up more space than simple "/" separators. Also, the blank space between the separators still allows easy readability. Right now, there's a bit of an issue with blank spaces, but since the goal here is to end up with no blank spaces anyways, having a "_" as a placeholder isn't too bad. Then again, the table that you suggested with multiple columns will look a lot better once completely filled too. Anyhow, whichever way you decide to go with I'm sure will be fine :). --Diagnosed as Sound 16:10, 9 January 2009 (UTC)

Colours[edit source]

I am so sick of this. The colour schemes we're supposed to use are midnightblue and #AFB5D7. Quit using the old ones. I've been going around all over trying to re-colour them all, but as more FFIV articles are made, the more these show up. The tables on this page are not something I have time to do, so someone with more patience please fix it for me, thanks.

And fuck you, it's spelled colour, not color. Shut up you damn American Spellcheck.—BfD (talk·contribs) Confirm deletion|03:19, 4 April 2009 (UTC)

Color color color color color I'll fix them all if I figure out how. - +DeadlySlashSword+ 05:41, 4 April 2009 (UTC)
Never mind, I figured it out, color. - +DeadlySlashSword+ 05:48, 4 April 2009 (UTC)
Errm, this was created before the new ones were put in place.  ILHI 11:15, 4 April 2009 (UTC)
You know, I was planning to do this by myself. - +DeadlySlashSword+ 17:52, 4 April 2009 (UTC)
I didn't just re-do the colours. Half of our tables are using an old system] which use "|align="center"|'''Name'''" when it just can be typed as "!Name". That took ages. And the way I do everything is faster than most other users here because of my method (Ctrl+G + Ctrl+V) and my browser.  ILHI 18:22, 4 April 2009 (UTC)
If you say so. I'll go find somewhere else to edit, then. Enjoy. - +DeadlySlashSword+ 02:31, 5 April 2009 (UTC)

Class=sortable[edit source]

I saw this page and thought "wouldn't it be easier if we just used the class="sortable" mechanism so it doesn't matter so much which version you use, you can have it alphabetical in your version.".

There are of course giant flaws with this. We have pages that organise into sections from A-Z. This won't work there. Our List of enemies are in galleries so it won't work there. Some methods of organisation have all names in one column so it won't work there.

Discuss.  ILHI 23:01, 13 April 2009 (UTC)

For the SNES Names[edit source]

I can possibly check up on the names via my game if I must, since I'm already at the end of it and can pretty much check to see what items are what. Though it'll have to wait until later since I have other things I need to do right now, so I'll get to that whenever I get back. ^^:b Xenomic 20:08, 13 May 2009 (UTC)

They are from the J2e version. ScatheMote 20:09, 13 May 2009 (UTC) should we put another column in for that or just get rid of all the names altogether and just redo the SNES column?? Xenomic 20:11, 13 May 2009 (UTC)
Edit - Also, yeah.....a lot of those items that I have in the SNES section aren't even IN the original SNES game, like the Cockatrice item and the majority of the spell items and status recovery items for instance....oi vey x_x Xenomic 20:17, 13 May 2009 (UTC)
I'm going to re-work the page. This will be removing the SNES, PS and GBA columns and moving them to another page. Then there will be the DS tables, with small sub-sections if there are items in other versions that aren't in the DS. The "other page" will be like this, except for FFIV.  ILHI 20:20, 13 May 2009 (UTC)
I see. That'll keep the page cleaner I suppose. So this page is going to be just for the DS items (save for those not in there) then? Think it's worth doing that for the FFI Items section as well?? Xenomic 20:22, 13 May 2009 (UTC)
I'll be doing all games. It's just time-consuming to find the Japanese- most of the time I'm doing something else because I work on everything around here. This will cover all items, it will just use the DS name, and people will be advised to look at the names in their versions of not using the DS. I might anchor all of the names so there can be a direct link to other names. I'm thinking about it.  ILHI 20:28, 13 May 2009 (UTC)

I see. I guess I'll have to relinquish working on this then and find other things to do, like more videos for the glitches I suppose ^^;; Xenomic 20:29, 13 May 2009 (UTC)

Xemo, don't touch the article for now. I know what I'm doing and how it works.  ILHI 19:10, 24 May 2009 (UTC)

I've fixed things up. I still want to keep the other names in the table, just for the sake of people not having to leave the article if they're using an older version. Also: Description and Effect will almost be the same for a lot of items, won't they? And I think there are different costs in different versions.  ILHI 19:26, 24 May 2009 (UTC)

Believe in the future, and persist in the present, that's what I'll do!
Yeah, this page needs to be cleaned up... the Gysahl Whistle does not need to be given its own table, for example.
