I can't say I'm too big a fan of this kind of page. The exact definition of a "miscellaneous item" is far too vague and broad. Its an "other" category, which does not exist in any game itself. I also notice that a good deal of this page can be moved into a one I have in mind: Stat-Increasing Items, or Stat Boosting Items, or whatever. That's much better defined, and is recurring a bit:

There are four categories. Everything that doesn't fit in any of the other three (Recovery Items: Heal and Cure characters; Offensive Items: Deal damage or induce status effects on enemies; Supportive Items: Buff and boost characters in battle) fits here. That's why it's miscellaneous. Also, Ammo is for Limit Break use only, Gnomish Bread and Gysahl Greens don't boost stats and Rename Card is pretty much obvious. There's also the Smoke Ball, which doesn't boost anything, GF items are very broad, and those wierd items from FFX are just odd. It's either split or it remains.
Well, I'm making a Stat upgrading item page no matter what, since that seems recurring. What remains can stay, I suppose. If my argument is reasonable, I'm sure somebody else will make the same complaint. If not, its best I stopped pressing it.
I disagree with Henryacores: there are five categories, not four, as follows:
- Healing items
- Field items (aka "miscellaneous", a horrible name IMHO)
- Support items (battle items that target allies)
- Debuff items (battle items that target enemies but deal no damage)
- Offensive items (battle items that damage enemies)

- Field Items are items that can be used in the field. That also includes most healing items. They don't fall into the same category system.
- There are Field Items (or Menu Items) and Battle Items (or Use Items). Items can be both Field and Battle if they want. There are also often Equipment Items which can be equipped, and Throw Items.
- Then from that we can also usually distinguish Key Items-- if it weren't for items like those from VII that do nothing at all, or those from a game that amplifies effects by being in the inventory. 2.102.231.184 16:06, June 10, 2013 (UTC)
Sorry, I should have specified better:
- Healing items (items that restore status, HP, MP etc.; aside from that, most of them can be used BOTH in battle and on the field)
- Field items (items that CANNOT be used during battles and that are not in the category above)
- Support items (battle items that target allies)
- Debuff items (battle items that target enemies but deal no damage)
- Offensive items (battle items that damage enemies)
I went through the item lists of several games, and these five categories always include everything. I always considered Key Items as a completely separate category of stuff (to avoid confusion with the term "item" used here), but it could be a sixth set. I hope this clarifies better. If anyone has an alternative name that suits better than "Miscellaneous" (the most generic ever) or "Field" (as I understand, partially overlapping with another definition?), please suggest. No harm meant. Cheers :-) --Abacos (talk) 16:44, June 10, 2013 (UTC)
