The Doomsday Video[edit source]
It's awesome that someone found a video for Doomsday, but did anyone else notice that it deals 9999 damage to the entire party and they are still alive? Cheater.
Throughout the entire time I've played FF IX, I've only used Dommsday twice; once to see what it even was, and again to show my nephew. I find it supremely cool, but useless as it kills your entire party but does next to nothing to the enemies.
FFVI Appearance[edit source]
May I suggest at least a "See Also" for Crusader? Shared name in Japanese and all. 126.96.36.199 00:24, September 3, 2009 (UTC)
Doomsday Sword induced slowdown[edit source]
Is it just the European version that completely dies framerate wise when you cast Doomsday Sword? Is this note-worthy? FreeBastion 22:25, January 28, 2010 (UTC)
Happens in the NA version too. Doomsday is just very graphically-intensive, and a bit beyond the PS1's capability. (So it's no surprise SE jumped to the PS2 for the next one.) - File:FFIII-nes-sage.gif Saethori (T / C) - 07:46, January 29, 2010 (UTC)
Is the FF5 spell also called Jihad in Japanese? The page only gives a JP for the 9 version.
FFXI...?? Ehhh? Wait, did I screw up something there? Oops, the first one is supposed to be FFV, not FFIX. That's the same as FFXII's. I was noting XII's here as well so that we could see what else FFV's was supposed to be.
Oh right. So the FFV "Doomsday" is actually the same ability as FFXII Banish? We could either make Doomsday (Final Fantasy IX) and have the FFV on the disambig, or just mention here that the FFV doomsday is actually different but was localized as Doomsday.Keltainentoukokuu (talk) 18:00, March 29, 2015 (UTC)
I'm on the boat of "Mention it on pages that exist". For instance, how Magic Break and Mind Break are usually interchanged, but it's mentioned on both pages (or should be) that they're named as the other in other versions.
Xeno, you read the katakana for FFV Doomsday wrong: it's パニッシュレイ? which in romaji is Panisshu Rei and that translates to "Punish Ray" in English. FFXII has バニッシュレイ? which in romaji is Banisshu Rei and that translates to "Banish Ray" in English. Single character and the name is different.—Kaimi (999,999 CP/5 TP) ∙ 22:12, March 29, 2015 (UTC)
Oh oops. I didn't even notice that on the very first kanji, it's so slight. Well then, nevermind me. >_>;
So, the FFV version is now enough to have its own article. パニッシュレイ appears in FFV, FFLII, and FFXIV (so FFDic says. FFDic also says that FFXII's Banish Ray is actually パニッシュレイ...but is that true?). So that should be enough to split it from this page if they're all the same, right? Also, FFXIV's version is split between Ozma's and...Folgar's or whatever フォルガル is, so there's two versions of this there.
Ok, so that is confirmed. Wonder why FFDic puts that together with FFV's Doomsday in terms of the kanji...Is the FFXIV one パニッシュレイ as well? I know that Ozma's isn't that, and is something entirely different in terms of kanji (wish we could find an image of his Doomsday, but no luck with that). If FFXIV is not the same as FFV's and is in fact パニッシュレイ, then...well, guess FFV's should just be split off into the disambig and not mentioned here at all. FFLII's Doomsday will have to be mentioned on the disambig too (there's 2 of them now, one for both kanjis).
Your words confuse me. Boths V's Doomsday and XII's Banish Ray is パニッシュレイ.
Er....whoops. Also ah....so XIV DOES have that. Meaning we can split FFV/XII/XIV/FFLII from here into its own article. The problem THERE is...what would it be named? Right now, we know it's Doomsday in FFV, Banish Ray in XII, and we don't know what it's REALLY called in FFLII (but going to go with Doomsday since it's used from the Necromancer). If XIV is Punishing Ray then...hmmmmm...
Since no name appears twice (L2 doesn't count unless there's an official translation), we usually use most recent. And even if we didn't I would want to go for "Punishing Ray" anyway because its closest to the Japanese name. JBed (talk) 01:13, August 7, 2017 (UTC)
Punishing Ray it is! I'll move the data from here to there for that article, and redirect the FFV/FFLII/PFF abilities to that page. Not sure if FFXII should be redirected to that on this disambig or not.
I am thinking about adding a trivia entry. A Doomsday Machine is intended to destroy everybody on all sides, as a last resort. Doomsday hits all combatants for major damage (second highest spell power available to the player).IronGasoline (talk) 07:10, May 26, 2018 (UTC)
