name

Scott_victory-1-.gif
What name we should call this article?
  • Dissidia Final Fantasy (2015) - not sure if it will be released in 2015.
  • Dissidia Final Fantasy (Arcade) - it seems like it's going to be on PS4/Xbone eventually.
maybe we can use any of these name and change it later. Monterossa (talk) 08:09, February 14, 2015 (UTC)
30th Anniversary edition would most definitely not be released in 2015. Leave as Arcade for now. C A T U S E 08:16, February 14, 2015 (UTC)
(Arcade) is fine for now. I believe we should rename to release year when that is actually announced (and do the same for the first Dissidia), but for now, this works. -- Some Color Mage ~ (Talk) 08:23, February 14, 2015 (UTC)
Also, guys? Remember as an unreleased game, everything should be cited. I'm seeing a grand total of 0 citations on this page so far, which even with the small amount of info we have is unacceptable. -- Some Color Mage ~ (Talk) 08:42, February 14, 2015 (UTC)
Already put on a citation. BTW, it's already Feb 14 in Japan but the date for the article is Feb 13 sΓΣamyGoreng 08:55, February 14, 2015 (UTC)
In the event this game migt get a game console port, will we be re-naming this article? Or simply make a new one for that version?
Ixbran (talk) 05:22, February 15, 2015 (UTC)
We'll change it to release year when a release date is announced. In the event that a console version is announced before that, well, we still won't have any better tag, unless someone wanted to try (Reboot), but I don't particularly like that as a tag.
This whole thing is kind of annoying as we don't have any precedent for this, the other time where there were two different games with the same name (Theatrhythm Final Fantasy 3DS and iOS) the two were similar enough that we could include them in the same article. Can't do that in this case though, not only would covering the first and third Dissidias on the one page but not the second be really awkward, it sounds like they're making a lot of revamps. -- Some Color Mage ~ (Talk) 09:12, February 15, 2015 (UTC)

Colors

I think we might have to come up with a temporary codename for this that is bound to be changed in the future. DFFA would work.

Suggestion:

#FF0DA3

I think the first color should be more darker, like the game's logo.

I think Monterossa is on the right track here.—Kaimi (999,999 CP/5 TP) ∙ 21:15, February 14, 2015 (UTC)

Can we please advance with this thing? I think Monterossa's colour pick is good and for the temporary codename we could go with "DFF15", shorter for "DFF2015", unless you want the full year to which option I'm also open.—Kaimi (999,999 CP/5 TP) ∙ 18:10, April 12, 2015 (UTC)

Done. No need for a navbox bg image yet, as no navbox should be created.--Magicite-ffvi-ios Technobliterator TC 18:19, April 12, 2015 (UTC)
No navbox? That's kind of a waste. Can a Character infobox be done or not? I assume it's fine to use as a sideicon and in tables for movesets for new characters. Also, why it points to "Dissidia Final Fantasy 2015" and not "Dissidia Final Fantasy (2015)"? Coding can't handle it or something?—Kaimi (999,999 CP/5 TP) ∙ 19:07, April 12, 2015 (UTC)
The colors are good for me, and "DFF15" is good as a placeholder. If the game's name does change, we can cross that bridge when we come to it. As for no navbox, agree. We don't have much to justify it now, just the characters and arenas. But we've done navboxes with less, and we will want one eventually. As per usual with new releases, we should hold off, but if (rather, when) someone jumps the gun and does it now, it might as well stay. Drake Clawfang (talk) 19:14, April 12, 2015 (UTC)

Navbox is useful whenever there are 2+ articles about a subject. Imagine someone looking for info about the D2015 characters and wanting to jump from one character to the next. The navbox would be useful. JBed (talk) 20:14, April 12, 2015 (UTC)

Speaking of jumping the gun, let's not assume all the voice actors are returning. If anything, Vaan and Gabranth prove we can't assume that. "It sounds like them, I recognize the voice" doesn't work, either. Drake Clawfang (talk) 20:37, April 13, 2015 (UTC)

I'm not paying attention to anything Dissidia, but out of interest: if we hear a voice sample from a previous game in a trailer, would that be enough to "confirm" the voice actor? JBed (talk) 20:41, April 13, 2015 (UTC)
I'm inclined to say no. Given how Dissidia constantly references the rest of the series, it could be hard to prove what clips are stock and what's been re-recorded. Drake Clawfang (talk) 23:41, April 13, 2015 (UTC)

File:NavbgDFF2015.png I made a navbg. Not sure if it will look good. too bad the logo doesn't have any art image. Monterossa (talk) 04:29, April 17, 2015 (UTC)

I'm not sure if that will stand out enough from the background unless we swap the class colours. I'll give it a shot now. -- Some Color Mage ~ (Talk) 05:10, April 17, 2015 (UTC)
Nah, it looks fine, background colour starts fading out before it becomes an issue. -- Some Color Mage ~ (Talk) 05:19, April 17, 2015 (UTC)

Ifrit's Involvement

Werehog21 (talk) 19:01, April 10, 2015 (UTC)

So, we're not going to involve Ifrit in the article?

Werehog, the page is not locked, you're free to specifically mention Ifrit on the page if you wish. I suspect the real reason for that is that nobody's actually grabbed a screenshot of him yet. -- Some Color Mage ~ (Talk) 01:53, April 11, 2015 (UTC)

A song's inclusion does not confirm a character's inclusion. By that logic Dancing Mad means Kefka's in. Drake Clawfang (talk) 23:42, April 13, 2015 (UTC)
But we can cite the fact that Bartz's voice actor is there as proof of Bartz's inclusion? Unless he's explicitly stated he's voicing Bartz, then I don't think it can be used. Granted, it's obvious, but to be more "official" I guess, it's possible that he's just voicing any character. Thoughts?  Primarch Dysley FFXIII - Sprite-Dysley 02:20, April 14, 2015 (UTC)
No, we cannot. We do not have the power to prove anyone's inclusion that Square Enix have not told us about. If they are not shown in a demo, or any official footage, then we do not know that they exist in Dissidia as a playable character. At the very least we can add a section about possible/likely characters to appear based on this kind of evidence, but I do not in the slightest support listing Bartz alongside the other characters when Square Enix have never shown us Bartz and we are just assuming.--Magicite-ffvi-ios Technobliterator TC 06:55, April 14, 2015 (UTC)
More evidence of eventual characters. At reference 5 of the page that takes you to the YouTube video, between 28:59-29:41, featuring Cosmos and Chaos.Vapor Rub (talk) 09:17, April 15, 2015 (UTC)
Did they mention about the concept of Warriors of Cosmos/Chaos? I think we should get rid of "returning characters" and "new characters" and divide them into Warriors of Cosmos and Chaos instead. It's a reboot of Dissidia so all the characters aren't actually returning from the two PSP games. Monterossa (talk) 03:07, April 16, 2015 (UTC)
"Returning" in this case is from a mechanical viewpoint, not a plot one. The returning characters we've seen in action so far appear to be fairly unchanged from their PSP incarnations (aside from the changes needed to adapt to the new game mechanics). -- Some Color Mage ~ (Talk) 05:03, April 16, 2015 (UTC)
Whatever the case, its current state is a misuse of tables. Besides the game index, the two other fields are just 0+ length lists. That alone is odd, but the way it's presented makes it look like they are at all related to each other when they aren't. If we want the table and still to divide by game then doing something like asterisking newcomers would be more presentable. JBed (talk) 05:10, April 17, 2015 (UTC)
Well, it's the same way the D012 character list is done. I'm fine with changing it, as long as it's done consistently. -- Some Color Mage ~ (Talk) 05:47, April 17, 2015 (UTC)

"Unconfirmed" split?

Because of the Dengeki info, it would seem that all the veterans will eventually return (they mentioned 31 in the article, though I'm unsure whether that referrs to Aerith or Feral Chaos as the last, so I included neither). This makes it a bit superflous to include all of them in the "unconfirmed" list in its current state, as they all state the same information and link to the same article, as well as obsfucate the actuall possible new characters (currently just Minwu and Noctis). I am aware that I am the one who did it like that, but I'm putting it up for discussion if it would be a good idea to possibly split the "unconfirmed" section into one for veterans, with the relevant info stated at the top (which is currently composed of the sentence and ref link that is mentioned with all the characters) and then any extra info on specific characters (currently the Spring Festival info). Also possibly dropping the unconfirmed 14-starter character vets into this section as well, as they are definite but unconfirmed officially for their spot unless I missed an interview. The section section, for newcomers to the series, would be self-explanatory and include characters like Minwu and Noctis with their currently-stated reasoning. Thoughts on this proposal (and also perhaps criticism for the way I laid out the section as it stands at the time of writing this)? A.J. two (Smashboards) 02:21, May 24, 2015 (UTC)

one thing Im really curious about is the fact they claim they want to bring back all the characters from past Dissidia games. Now does this also include bringing back both Aerith and Feral Chaos? Aerith was an Assist Only Character, but with the 3-on-3 play style, Assist Only Characters don't seem all that valid anymore.

So like if she does come back, she would have to be fully playable. Also, due to his huge size, how would Feral Chaos effect the 3-on-3 style of game play? Would his huge size make him take up two character slots, all three? Or simply one of the three? I'm really curious as to how Areith and Feral Chaos will be handled in this game, since they say everyone will return.

Should we start translating and adding character movesets on their respective Dissidia pages? Their move list is on the Japanese site, so it shouldn't be too difficult creating a new box separating them from the old move list. Vapor Rub (talk) 16:21, November 28, 2015 (UTC)

Aside from "Arcade" not being in the name, the reason we want to stick with release year instead is to future-proof for possible ports, especially in this case the chance of a PS4 port is a strong possibility. -- Some Color Mage ~ (Talk) 11:18, February 18, 2016 (UTC)

Shouldn't we rename the PSP version to "Dissidia Final Fantasy (2008)" too? Monterossa (talk) 12:33, February 18, 2016 (UTC)

If I'm interpreting the tagging rules correctly;
  • The PSP game should be at Dissidia Final Fantasy (2008)
  • A series page (at 3 full games and Prologus I believe it's eligible) should be at Dissidia Final Fantasy (series)
  • A disambig should be at Dissidia Final Fantasy (disambiguation), because it's a game name, and disambigs have to be tagged if they share the name of a game.
Of course, this leaves the problem that nothing ends up at Dissidia Final Fantasy. Either we redirect it to the disambig or we make an exception and allow the series or disambig page to be there. We can't put either game there because it'd be too ambiguous. -- Some Color Mage ~ (Talk) 12:58, February 18, 2016 (UTC)
I would definitely put the series page to "Dissidia Final Fantasy". The tagging rules were not made with this case in mind, they should not be adhered to strictly.
No sleep for Intangir Bot it is, then!--Magicite-ffvi-ios Technobliterator TC 13:59, February 18, 2016 (UTC)
Yeah, I'm leaning towards putting the series page there, too.
We're probably gonna have to do the same about Theatrhythm, now that I think about, while I said earlier that 3DS and iOS are close enough to be covered on the same page, they are technically different games, and the upcoming arcade version of that makes 4 games, so it definitely needs a series page.
But we can't use year tags for those, because they were both released in 2012. Argh. -- Some Color Mage ~ (Talk) 23:57, February 18, 2016 (UTC)

Returning Veterans & Styles + Predictions

All the Warriors of Chaos and Heroes from 012 (bar Feral Chaos) are obviously gonna return. Their playstyles IMO might be the following:

  • Garland - Heavy
  • Emperor - Unique
  • Cloud of Darkness - Unique
  • Kain - Heavy
  • Golbez - Unique
  • Gilgamesh - Heavy
  • Exdeath - Unique
  • Kefka - Shoot
  • Tifa - Speed
  • Aerith (Might be playable) - Unique
  • Sephiroth - Speed
  • Laguna - Unique
  • Ultimecia - Shoot
  • Kuja - Unique
  • Yuna - Unique
  • Jecht - Heavy
  • Prishe - Speed
  • Gabranth - Unique

And of course character predictions. I doubt some of these characters will appear, but it'd be pretty cool to see them in action. I personally want to see more villains in the game:

  • Zack - Heavy
  • Ace - Shoot
  • Vivi - Shoot
  • Snow - Unique
  • Balthier - Unique
  • Steiner - Heavy
  • Minwu - Unique
  • Faris - Unique
  • Seymour - Shoot
  • Seifer - Speed
  • Rinoa - Shoot
  • Auron - Heavy
  • Xande - Shoot
  • Delita - Unique
  • Rydia - Unique
  • Locke - Speed
  • Celes - Unique
  • Edgar - Unique
  • Sazh - Unique
  • Serah - Shoot
  • Noel - Speed

ACRudeBox

You could be right, but since this is a reboot, and Cosmos and Chaos are no longer involved in the story (or technically there won't be much story at all), the {developers} have more freedom and less restrictions on who to choose. So hitting over the 50 mark in characters is no longer impossible. It's gonna be interesting.

More FFVIII (on my knees).

BTW, can I add a new "Type" column for the both new and existing characters? E.g. Under Ramza's info, I can add a box for Type: Unique. Vapor Rub 12:43, February 24, 2016 (UTC)

I have to admit, "Power" and "Speed" characters are milked like CRAZY in games with those kinds of categories. I mean, just look at Warriors Orochi and Sonic the Hedgehog; even the upcoming One Piece Burning Blood is doing it too! :P And yet my dumb crossover verse on my stupid deviantart has the types "Power", "Defense" (needs way more love), "Speed", "Balance", "Wonder" and "Technique".

Debut trailers

Hi.

Should we create a gallery section for the Debut trailers for each character (at least those who are installed via updates)? Weedle McHairybug (talk) 00:39, June 28, 2016 (UTC)

Why? We don't need to host every trailer. DrakeyC (talk) 00:44, June 28, 2016 (UTC)
On this page? Absolutely not. On a /Videos subpage, and on the character pages, if we REALLY want to do it, possibly. And this is an English wiki, when we show the trailers, it should be the English ones, so it should only be done when we have those. Probably should host them instead of use the YouTube ones, not sure.--Magicite-ffvi-ios Technobliterator TC 00:53, June 28, 2016 (UTC)

Weapons in Gallery

I've noticed that a lot of the Character Galleries only include their first two weapons but all 3 are mention in the description. I thought it was because we didn't have the pictures but I have found them in other places in the wiki.

So is there a reason the third weapon doesn't appear in the character galleries?

(Eddiefunny (talk) 23:51, January 2, 2017 (UTC))

Maybe the third weapons were added later to the wiki and never got put to the galleries. There is no specific reason as far as I know. All images related to a character can be in their gallery.Keltainentoukokuu (talk) 02:39, January 3, 2017 (UTC)

Music table

I've just finished updating the music table with all the info of the game until now, including some links to the tracks and how to obtain them; however, with the game adding music every month, the table will be really big in some months. Could it be possible transfer the table to a new page to avoid that? Like a page for the Arcade version music or something like that?

Thank you! OneEco (talk) 17:05, February 11, 2017 (UTC)

I think the table should be on its own page. We could call it List of Dissidia Final Fantasy (2015) music ? Or if you can think of a better name, then anything goes. Would you like to create it? The music section here can then link to it.Keltainentoukokuu (talk) 20:15, February 11, 2017 (UTC)

Page Move/Rename

I oppose this move because only the PS4 version is Dissidia Final Fantasy NT. -- Noneofyourbusiness (talk) 17:17, June 9, 2017 (UTC)

Agreed. NT is an enhanced port, like FFT:WotL or FFXII:TZA. We should treat it the same as those and have the original name as the page title, and then a section about the differences in NT. --Leon95 20:48, June 9, 2017 (UTC)
My opinion depends on whether "NT" is to distinguish this Dissidia from the PSP Dissidia or to distinguish it from the Arcade release of this Dissidia. If I knew what "NT" meant that might help.
In the former case I would say that the subtitle can retroactively apply to both the console version of this Dissidia and the Arcade version. In the latter case I would say treat NT the same way we treat WotL. In the absence of certainty I would assume the latter case. JBed (talk) 22:40, June 9, 2017 (UTC)
During the livestream Hazama explained that NT stood for several things, like "New Tale", "New Trial", and "New Tournament". Personally I'm pretty sure that "New Tale" refers to the fact that this story is about the fight between Materia and Spiritus instead of Cosmos and Chaos, while "New Trial" and "New Tournament" might just refer to it being a reboot. In any case I'm inclined to believe the title is there to distinguish it from the PSP Dissidias. Gabranth-ffxii-ost Miyu PFF Chaos Blade Icon PFF Highway Star Icon 14:15, June 10, 2017 (UTC)
The original Arcade release doesn't have "NT" on it, so it can't be covered by "NT". It can't apply retroactively. It also doesn't have the Materia/Spiritus 'New Tale' (outside the "Battle of the Gods" DLC, which doesn't even have story, really) or the NT logo showing Materia and Spiritus (as you can see from the page picture, which shows the Arcade logo). NT should either be a subsection of the page about the Arcade release, as with other games that have gotten enhanced ports, or be treated as its own game with its own separate article. -- Noneofyourbusiness (talk) 08:18, June 11, 2017 (UTC)
I'm of the opinion that DFFNT should have its own article to differiate from the arcade release. Still, that would be a bit problematic with section names for some things, like for characters' Dissidia subpages since I doubt DFF2015 and DFFNT would have differences in terms of abilities (mainly the name of the section would be a subject to constant edit-warring IMO).—Kaimi (999,999 CP/5 TP) ∙ 13:01, June 11, 2017 (UTC)
I'm actually with Kaimi on this. Make a new Dissidia Final Fantasy NT page.--Magicite-ffvi-ios Technobliterator TC 16:29, June 11, 2017 (UTC)
If we're gonna do that we should call the Arcade page "Dissidia Final Fantasy (Arcade)" or "Dissidia Final Fantasy -Arcade-". I think we mainly used the tag 2015 because "Arcade" wouldn't apply when it was released on console. They've distinguished it with "Arcade" in various places, and in TCG they wrote it with the dashes. JBed (talk) 18:02, June 11, 2017 (UTC)
True, and on the Original Soundtrack release for the game. -- Noneofyourbusiness (talk) 05:49, June 12, 2017 (UTC)
Well, we retroactively refer to the NES titles Final Fantasy II and Final Fantasy III as Final Fantasy IV and Final Fantasy VI. :3 Okay, not quite the same. But they didn't use a subtitle before because they wanted it to seem like a definitive release on Arcade but they add one on console because they don't want that. The arcade version is still "the Arcade version of Dissidia Final Fantasy NT" as far as I'm concerned. JBed (talk) 18:02, June 11, 2017 (UTC)
That's because they were originally called that before being translated. I think the NT subtitle is better compared to the The Zodiac Age subtitle for FFXII, or even a distinct game, because it will have story content that the Arcade version does not, which distinguishes it beyond being on a new platform. The Arcade version is just Dissidia Final Fantasy (and has as much claim to that title as the 2008 version).
The character list is also confusing the way it is now, because it can be read either as saying that Noctis is in the Arcade game (which he isn't, he's just going to be in NT so far) or that Ace and Ramza will be in NT, which hasn't been confirmed. -- Noneofyourbusiness (talk) 05:49, June 12, 2017 (UTC)

Final Fantasy Wiki:Naming Policy should be updated with info on things like these, because there isn't really anything that could help here currently. There isn't really an optimal way it seems...Japanese people have their own wiki, so everyone who will read here will likely know the game as NT and will call it that. If we call it (Arcade), that being the title for things related to the game will be odd for people who look info on the NT (they'll think it's some other game). (2015) is similarly weird because it'll come out in 2018 for us, and readers will again think it's some other game and not the one they were looking for. Making it two articles is weird if articles like equipment and ability articles will have two entries, one for Arcade, one for NT, that have the exact same info? Or give it some insane long header like "Dissidia Final Fantasy (Arcade)/Dissidia Final Fantasy NT". Calling the arcade version NT is weird because that's not its name.Keltainentoukokuu (talk) 10:22, June 12, 2017 (UTC)

I think NT is probably the best name for us. People will type into Google "who is in Dissidia NT" or "is Noctis in Dissidia NT", and if Google suggests "List of Dissidia Final Fantasy (Arcade) characters" it will not look like the answer they searched for. Or go List of Dissidia Final Fantasy (Arcade) characters and List of Dissidia Final Fantasy NT characters, separate, but they might be the same list? Even if there are couple characters different it could be on the same page flagged as "this character is Arcade/NT only!".Keltainentoukokuu (talk) 10:38, June 12, 2017 (UTC)
But they're both different games more or less? Arcade Dissidia has the same characters and battle system but doesn't have a story mode. So it suggesting "List of Dissidia Final Fantasy -Arcade- characters" and "List of Dissidia Final Fantasy NT characters" separately makes sense.--Magicite-ffvi-ios Technobliterator TC 10:50, June 12, 2017 (UTC)
Yeah if it's considered a different game that just uses the mechanics from the other game (like FFTA and FFTA2?), then it's easy to separate them. I assumed the story mode was just "tacked on", like extra cut scenes. Can you play against AI in the arcade or is it multiplayer always? That's quite a big difference also if they're adding playing against the computer.Keltainentoukokuu (talk) 11:00, June 12, 2017 (UTC)
I think the arcade version should have its own page and related pages about its lists of stuffs. It's also available in some Asian countries as well, so some English speaking players may need these info. Monterossa (talk) 14:13, June 12, 2017 (UTC)
Then we just need to decide what to call this article, and make a new one for NT. -Arcade- seems the best if it has been called that in OSTs and the trading card game, to disambiguate from the original Dissidia, and also it makes it obvious which Dissidia that is just from the name. Maybe the original Dissidia should still be (2008) though.Keltainentoukokuu (talk) 14:54, June 12, 2017 (UTC)
I don't think the absence if a Story Mode is that significant when it comes to an Arcade-style fighter. Wikipedia and any wiki about an arcade fighter you'll find will cover Arcade games with their console counterparts. I don't think this would even be a discussion if they called the Arcade game "Dissidia Final Fantasy NT" to start with-- I think we'd definitely be covering them together.
If both the console and Arcade version continue to get updates then we'll be covering a lot of stuff together anyway. I don't think there's much point in making them separate even if we resort to "Dissidia -Arcade- & Dissidia NT" headers/page names. JBed (talk) 16:40, June 12, 2017 (UTC)
Different headers could work. But also it's more accurate to say that "Dissidia Final Fantasy NT is the PS4 version of Dissidia Final Fantasy (2015)" or "Dissidia Final Fantasy NT is the PS4 version of Dissidia Final Fantasy -Arcade-" than "the Arcade version of Dissidia NT" because of which came first. -- Noneofyourbusiness (talk) 06:13, June 13, 2017 (UTC)
