RE:title
hey, just about that dissidia word which you couldn't understand. I don't know if there is a connection, but the french word "dissident" means someone or something involved in a conflict. it'll help ;) -Alarielle-
According to wikipedia: Noun: dissident(s)
A person who formally opposes the current political structure, opposes the political group in power, opposes the policies of the political group in power, or opposes current laws.
It comes from the latin "dissidere" meaning to sit apart. as in to disagree. The title most likely is inspired from dissidere, though it may also be a made up word; there seems to be a bit of a recent trend to use gratuitous latin in these games, like the "Fabula Nova" thing. --Randome37
alternate costume's?
It has been an issue up for debate on many other websites. I was thinking, wha would the alternate costumes be? I thought for Cloud, it would be his clothes in CC ffvii, and AC. For squall, it would be is tux or seed uniform. For onion knight it would be sage or ninja. For warrior of light it would be his knight unifrom and maybe for tidus it would be a blitzball uniform
SeeD uniform is confirmed as a costume. Sage, Ninja, and Knight are all confirmed as alternate playable forms, so that would be completely retarded. Since everyone's based off their Amano design, Cloud's alt will probably be his Nomura FF7 design.. unless they go with KH or AC. Personally... I'd like to see their in-game designs as alts--like the little chibi "cel-shaded"-looking ones for 4-6, and Nomura's for 7, 8, and 10.
Posting this again: http://i187.photobucket.com/albums/x305/Andres2Tiger/ff/diss_squallseed.jpg http://i187.photobucket.com/albums/x305/Andres2Tiger/ff/diss_frionelamano.jpg Squall as pointed out is SeeD outfit and Firion wearing the outfit we see him in most of Amano's artwork. As Dazuro pointed out the Sage and Ninja is NOT an alternate outfit for the OK but his EX Mode. Same with the Warrior of Light, his other form shown is his EX Mode. animekittysama told me that there was an interview from awhile ago that said each character would have a total of 4 alternate costumes. Of course who knows if most of these will just be pallet swaps.
4 COSTUMES?????YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY! ANDRES TIGER, THE BRINGER OF GOOD NEWS!
Addres Tiger you pathetic waste of a human life that is photoshop for the last time!
Wow, that must be one hell of a good Photoshop job, considering it's in a video on the official site. Seriously, shut up about it already. Not only are you wrong, but insulting people who aren't is.. well.. it makes you a pathetic waste of a human life, to use terms you'll understand.
| |||
And scans today confirm alternate outfits: http://i187.photobucket.com/albums/x305/Andres2Tiger/ff/dff_sept17_scan2.jpg Looks like the main design they're using is more based off Ingus (who wore the red OK outfit) while this alternate one is based off Luneth (who wore the blue OK outfit.)
Okay(Sorry ATiger) now I belive it and guys sorry I didn't see that on the official site, becuase my flashplayer is acting up so I can't go into the sight right now. Cool Luneth I am screaming! ^^
Sweet, Luneth! =3 Also, the main one is based off the first/top OK from the NES version. Basically, Luneth in the remake. It was red back then. Ingus ain't relevant.
I know it's based off the OK from the NES version but they did use other references to make the design for Dissida and the OK looks like like Ingus then Luneth since he has blonde curly hair and the red OK outfit. I know that one scan from before had Luneth in it as the reference but I believe it didn't say they were using Luneth as a reference, just the designs from the FFIII remake.
The red outfit and blonde hair is a trait from the original Onion Knight though. I really do not think Ingus had anything do with the OK design at all.
Interestingly, the FFIIIDS artwork for Onion Knight has the blue costume worn by Refia - while Luneth's is purple - yet this looks to be Luneth. Nevertheless, this piece of news is interesting. December inches closer and closer, and many things are yet to be revealed. Also, please mind your language when discussing things within the wiki. I'm sure you guys are wise enough to handle things - I don't need to be going around reminding editors to behave, do I?
the page seems to been edited to show the information about the Luneth costume but at the expece of the Ingus referace for the character design. the main character design is still an amalgam of amano, ichii, and Ingus is it not?
Template:HenryA
If anyone watches the trailer, they can clearly see the pics of Squall in his SeeD unifrom and firion in his cape outfit. Any other ones? What would Tidus' be?
Probably his original Nomura design though the possibility of Chappu or Shuyin beng an original costume seems likely.
yeah i bet there'll be shuyin, not chappu though. His Nomura design is likely. What about The villains?
for the villans I have no idea since almost none of them come in other flavors. Exdeath maybe as Euno (the optinal superboss from FFV and his alter ego). For Sephiroth his original nomura and the shirtless version from the end of the game. and maybe an Edea costume for Ultimecia (for which Blue will probably rejoice) otherwise I dont see a whole lot of possibilites for the villans, but lucily its up to the development team to come up with this sort of thing and not me. Though I do NOT want to see a "theodore" costume for Golbez
Garland's alt is a mere palette swap, so don't hold your breath for any extravagant stuff. Fire 2 10:26, 19 September 2008 (UTC)
thats true, but at the same time besides Chaos what other looks dose garland ever have?
What about his NES overworld sprite? The one with the visible face and different armor design and color scheme?
Derekoe: Cloud's default Amano design, his Advent Children design, and possibly his MP Crisis Core, but what could a fourth be? Maybe his KH1 outfit? Or, haha! How about Cloud's dress from the cross-dressing scene! Hrm...that may be too much.
new trailer? I never.......8bit!!!
what trailer? show me. or prove it. Zack fair 007 02:00, 19 September 2008 (UTC)
He's talking about this one: And the scene he's talking about is at 1:47 to 1:55. I can't tell really what the places is by my memory on FF5 is foggy.
oooo lmfao i was wondering where that was...we should number the trailers, instead of saying new this, old that. To avoid confusion. Sicne im here, i'd like to thank Bluhighwind for making the limit pages much more simpler, and easier to view.
Voice acting
the characters naruto and iruka arrive back as the voices for warrior of light and zidane. hey, im not saying i hate naruto, but the naruto voice is annoying. i guess iruka is okay. And uh warrior of light is epic.
Obi-Wan Kenobi had the same actor as the main character in Moulin Rouge, but that hardly ruined the movies for anyone. >_> Sharing actors doesn't mean anything. Hell, Garland and Armstrong from FMA have the same VA. That just doesn't seem right at all. And how about Lance Bass as Sephiroth? Say what you will, he did a damn good job. Of course, if Warrior starts shouting "BELIEVE IT" after every attack, I officially boycott Squenix.
Zidane isn't voice by Naruto's Japanese voice actor. This was a mistake somebody made awhile back. He's voiced by Romi Paku who does happen to do VA for a character on Naruto but not Naruto himself.
LOL i meant zidane is naruto...and warrior is iruka... LOL ZIDANE BELIEVE IT!and uh, by the way, i am enjoying the voice actors for: Warrior of light, Garland, Firion, Emperor mateus Palemicia, Onion Knight, (cant say cecil, as i havent heard him. Its probaly the guy from the ds remake, so yeah) (same with golbez) kefka, sephiroth, squall, ultemicia, tidus, and jecht. Kuja is wierd 0_o and DUDE i liked fma including armstrong. and was i like the only person who thinks lance bass did an okay job? Actually, a terrific job. I like that. It gave sephiroth an creepy look. i am basically saying the voice actor of NARUTO is not fit for ZIDANE.
And Zidane isn't voiced by Naruto's VA. Read my post above yours.
- Actually, you just did ur post the EXACT SAME TIME as mine. So i didnt get to it now. I said "edit conflict???" so i waited a couple minutes then i posted it.
Template:HenryA
I wonder who theyll get if it come over here? so far on four of these characters have VA over here.Template:HenryA
Ah, I forgot about Sephiroth and Cloud. All and all Tidus' and Jecht's VAs werent SO bad, there have certainly been worse in the series *coughffx2cough* sorry, seem t be coming down with something.I don't mind who the Japanese voice actors are gonna be, as long as the English ones are good. Sephiroth and the other VII characters must remain the same as from the AC movie. Cecil, from what I've heard in IV DS is a little wierd, but the hardest one to pull off would be Kefka I think. Hope they do it right, I think the only real big mistake in choosing voice actors to match the characters was English Dub for Red XIII, totally lame.Yeah, just one line though and at the very end of the movie. Though if it counts for anything i thought the voice fit him.Nobou Uematsu actually commented that he imagined Red XIII to be voiced by Sean Connery, which when you think about was the direction his voice should have been taken. I imagined him to have a rougher voice, sort of similar to Vincent's, but they took it into a completely opposite direction. Can you guys imagine that moment where Red XIII was angry and "pretended" to attack Aeris in Hojo's lab with that "fancy" type of voice? But anyway, I just hope they get Kefka right. When you think about it, we're going to hear a lot of the characters speak for the first time. We all have these images of what they would sound like based on their persona and appearance, I hope they get it right.NOw I am picturing Red XIII as Scar from Lion King... Jeremy Irons, close enough heh.Krystal Tomlin - "When prayers turn to promises, not even fate can stand in our way."
TALK - Let's mosey! - "Wouldn't wanna be you!"You forget that Squall had a VA in Kingdom Hearts.
8bit BlackMage - Beyond the Sky
TALK - Why do chemists call helium, curium, and barium 'the medical elements'? Because, if you can't 'helium' or 'curium', you... um... ._.; - {{{time}}}I'm most excited for Terra, Kefka, Zidane, and Kuja. Kuja's Japanese voice actor hit it spot on, I hope his English VA is that... um.....er..... scintillating?I personaly like CoD VA, that older (yet not old) woman voice, the sound weathered, like an agelesss diety of distruction should.Totally with you there. CoD sounds precisely the way I always imagined she would.
Site Update - New video
New gameplay video was on the official site today, and in it Garland knocks WoL down. A villian fanfare also played at the end. The character section also updated with Cecil and Golbez, as well as slots for V, VI, and VII. (no characters though)Cool to see a villan in the forefront of the action for once, though was it just me or did it look like Garland was played a little boring? he seemed to be repeating the same moves alot. Also I like how the villan fanfare is just a more sinister version of the victory tune. On another note HOO-RAY FOR OFFICIAL REGOGNITION OF IV. I'm still a little dissapointed that Cecil it weilding a staff but is it just me or did it look like paladin Cecil had a sword in some of those screen shots? Though i couldent be more pleased with how Golbeze came out, he looks certifiably kick-ass.
Hopefuly the blank slots for V, Vi,and VII means that those games will get updates soon.It would have been really cool if they gave everyone a unique fanfare tune based off the ones from their games while giving the villains a more sinister version but eh, at least the villains one is cool. I don't think they'll update with V, VI, and VII too soon. FFV, I can seem them revealing next week in magazine scans with TGS coming up. At TGS they'll most likely show a trailer revealing Terra and Cloud given the nature of how Kefka and Sephiroth were revealed. Scans in November will unveil info on Terra and Kefka and then Cloud and Sephiroth will be revealed in December scans. At least that is how I see it happening. Any sooner would be better.Cecil has a sword in a scabbard on his leg, and was definitely wielding a blade in some shots. Maybe his Ex-mode makes him pull out the Mythgraven Blade? Or maybe that's not a staff, but just a really ornate sheath, and he fights with it usually sheathed like some anime characters... and then the one on his leg is just a short secondary dagger or something...I'm highly curious what the paragraphs of Japanese text on each character portrait slot on the official site says. Anyone have any idea what they translate to? -TheTonberryKing
A sheath.. I had never thought of that, that's probably what it is, what with cecil being a swordsman and all.It doesn't look like a sheath to me... I don't like the idea of Cecil using a staff, but it definitelly looks like one... It would make no sense having him using a staff, since he only uses White Magic... I'm kinda confused about it...Welp, looks like that's not a sheath after all, now that we've seen the full art. His sword's on his back. At least he still has one! :D
At least I'm not going crazy, though. I always thought Amano's Dark Cecil looked like he had a spear, and I never understood that. Seems Nomura interpreted it the same way -- but why would a DK have a spear? Why would Baron have two separate brigades of spear-wielding infantry? O.o Even if he does main his sword, having a spear at all (Kain references aside) seems really odd.A spear! Thank the almighty God, it's a spear! Lol! I was browsing some Dissidia images yesterday, and when i saw the artwork for DK Cecil I got completelly terrified! I kept wondering why would he have a staff as well... Maybe the spear is there as an attempt to satisfy Kain's fans, since he's probablçy not appearing on Dissidia... Or maybe, DK's EX Mode is actually Kain???Again, he wields the spear in his original Amano art, so it's not a Dissidia improvisation.Yeah, you're actually right... I was looking at IV's artwork images again, and saw the picture you're talking about... I'm with the same doubt as you now... Really makes no sense to have Dark Knights wielding spears when there's a whole group of Dragoons that master this weapon...I dunno about this spear theory it still looks like hes got a sword in the screenshots, in either form. Though I suppose speculation is all we have until something clearer comes along, still Cecil is a swordsman through and through so I dont now about him weilding anything else.Um, FFA... have a look at his Dissidia art (in fact, it's my talkbox avatar). It's clearly a spear, while his sword is on his back. :P
Either way, while I dunno what Amano was thinking, I guess it's gonna be like Firion in Dissidia--each of his weapons references a different character. He's Rosa, Kain, and both Cecils, like how Firion has Ricard's, Maria's, and Leila's weapons.Firion has different weapons because you could equip anything in FFII but yeah I wouldn't be surprised if they gave him a spear as a reference to Kain. Not to mention everyone has a sword so it helps to give him something different.I love how people don't actually read what I said.
Wait, no, that isn't right.
Andres, the point is, each of his weapons references one of his party members' weapons from their official art. He has Minwu's shield, Ricard's spear, Maria's bow, etc -- not just a random generic one. Cecil can use a staff, sure, and his art shows him with a staff, spear, and sword, depending... but the rationale for him actually using them is likely Rosa and Kain, since he has plenty of other art without them.Template:RihyaTalkbox2
It's certainly hard to disagree with Dazuro's evidence (what with it being RIGHT on his talkbox) I mean it certainly LOOKS like a spear, at the same time he seems to be holding it like a sword in the screenshots (similarly, in fact, to the way WoL holds his sword at the end of the first trailer) is it possible it's a long handaled sword? Or just a very styleized one? Although paladin Cecil is a much harder case as it very clearly looks like hes useing a staff in those screenshots but in another of those same screenshots it looks like hes doing an Ex-Burst with a red bladed sword.Template:RihyaTalkbox2
The Board
Sorry. I'm new to the site and don't know how to make a picture and all that, but, anyway.
I've seen in the newer trailers that you seem to move a figure of your character along a board, and once at one end you fight someone, maybe not exactly a villain as the story shows other heroes and villains fighting each other. But...what could this mean? Could there possibly be something akin to SoulCalibur's mini-fights against generic enemies, or could each square on the board be an event, and by moving to different squares, you can see or fight different people? The latter doesn't seem too likely, since they say you have to play everyone to get the whole story, and making multiple scenarios for each would be really time-consuming (added replay value though). What do you guys think?
Levels
Interesting... the Moon and Dimension Castle are clearly based off the SNES tilesets moreso than any art or 3D models seen in remakes. So while Amano's designs seem to be taking priority, they're not the only thing. Perhaps that's a sign that alternate costumes will feature their sprite designs?
That'd sure make Blue happy...It'd make me happy too acctualy. I like familiarity.same here.
Two questions
So, first off, in the new video Garland's cape randomly changes from the traditional deep blue to a bright white with badass emblems on it. What's the significance of this? I reckon it's his EX-mode, but where the hell does it come from? I don't remember him ever having an alternate cape.
Second, multiplayer. I've just assumed up til now that it would have it, as many others I've spoken to have done. But have they ever actually said anything about it? The gameplay videos don't look very conducive to m-p, but the concept screams "needs multi, maybe even wireless". Is there any confirmation yay or nay?Multiplayer was confirmed right when the first info on this game came out. In fact, Nomura said the reason they put this on the PSP is so they wouldn't have to use split screens in Multiplayer.Oh, thank God... I just randomly realized I hadn't heard anything about it, and panicked that it might not be in. :oHeres hoping that it'll be online multiplayer, I dont know how many of you own PSP games that dont suppoet online multiplayer, but its lonley out there.well, here is a link HD http://www.gametrailers.com/player/40545.html but I have a question now, if Garland ex-mode isn't Chaos, then who is Chaos? Bahamut-shin
Ex-Burst Interactivity
Derekoe - So from the screenshots they have on the official site, it really looks like every character's Ex-Burst has some sort of interactivity, especially when I first saw screens of Squall's gameplay. I really hope I get to hit the R button to pull the trigger for his Renzokuken. What do you guys think? I feel that this interactivity helps make even the powerful moves stand out!
It looks like every character has a unique type of interaction with their Ex-Burst. Garland had the button mashing, Onion Knight seems to have a menu to choose from, it looks like Golbez has some sort of button and direction combo, where as Squall and Tidus simply have rehashes of their respective super move mechanics, though it looks like Ultimecia has something simmilar to Squall's trigger. This article is full of spoilers
I've noticed for those who haven't played some of the games to come here and read the characters that are going to be in it, it does give away parts of the story. For instance, I came and read that Golbez will be in it, and it says something about Cecil and him being brothers? I wish that hadn't been put there. I believe either spoiler warnings need to be added, or all suggestive content to the plot of the original titles need to be removed, and only objective information about their appearance in Dissidia needs to be listed such as a loose description of WHO they are and their APPEARANCE (notable looks etc).We already told everyone coming here, in the Main Page and even a Spoiler Policy was made, but in case you haven't noticed:
"Spoilers are to be expected. You have been warned. Navigate this Wiki at your own risk."
Makes me want to get rid of the spoiler warnings altogether, this does.Krystal Tomlin - "When prayers turn to promises, not even fate can stand in our way."
TALK - Let's mosey! - "Wouldn't wanna be you!"At least it has not given away the true purposes of Chaos or Cosmos yet, or what sides the heroes or villians will be on.
But areas that may give away plots should be marked with the "spoiler" heading like in pretty much every other page, so why not this one? It's expected that there will be the story of Dissidia, so you can overlook that, but when you're reading who is going to be in the game and it gives away the plot of another game, that's not right. Spoilers to the main titles should be removed, and just label who is in it, what they look like, how they were found to be included and the area they appear to be fighting in.Krystal Tomlin - "When prayers turn to promises, not even fate can stand in our way."
TALK - Let's mosey! - "Wouldn't wanna be you!"Well, if you feel that strongly about it, you should erase them yourself.
Template:HenryATheory
Since, due to the number of main heroes that fall under the FFVII title (Cloud, Vincent, Zack). Maybe the Ex-mode is to be able to switch between the three, or at least two, of them. Just a theory. That's not a bad idea. They could do that for 6 too, since there's so much debate about Terra-Celes-Locke.Sounds highly unlikely since I doubt they take spin-off games into account for this. If they did then Yuna would have been involved since she was the main in X-2. They're only focused on the main series and overall Cloud is the main character of FFVII.Well, they said that if they'd put Seymour they would have had to put Yuna because they want all heroes and villains to be linked if possible.. Sephiroth has heavy ties with Cloud and Zack, and I think Vince too, but I might be wrong since I tried to forget DoC.
Chaos and Garland
well, in the new gameplay foogate (Garland vs warrior of light) garland ex-mode isn't chaos. now my first question is, who is Chaos then??.
in the end of FF1, the time paradox is broken, and no one remenber nothing, then. is this a new Chaos? or garland and Chaos split in two
but what if this game take place before the end of FF1 then garland still is Chaos!?
what do you think? Bahamut-shin
*slaps forehead*Welcome to the modern era, where something called "wiki pages" can provide much information. If you read this "wikip age", for example, your answer is right there.
Really, it says right on the page that Chaos is the God of Darkness in this continuity. Don't ask stupid questions.
8bit BlackMage - Beyond the Sky
TALK - Why do chemists call helium, curium, and barium 'the medical elements'? Because, if you can't 'helium' or 'curium', you... um... ._.; - {{{time}}}The question is: Who is Chaos in FFI? Is he the original God of Darkness, using a lowly knight from Cornelia as a vessel 2000 years in the past? OR is he a creation of Garland's pact with the Four Fiends of ages past, elements melded into shadow itself?
What came first: Chaos or Garland? Perhaps the fact that Chaos exists as a distinct and powerful deity in Dissidia points to the former.drake: no, no, NO, you don't understand my question, Chaos FF1 and Chaos FF dissidia are the same, yes or not? if Dissidia realy take place before the end of FF1 then Garland have the power of turn in Chaos. I know my english maybe isn't good but I hope you can understand what I say Bahamut-shin
Dissidia does not take place at any time during, after or before FFI, it is an entirely different continuity. Or at the very least, Dissidia's Chaos is an alternate version of Chaos, like an alternate or parallel universe. It's like asking "when did Aeris get revived after VII if she's alive in Kingdom Hearts". The sheer appearance of Chaos in Dissidia should be a clear indication that it is a different Chaos from FFI. Just like Chaos in VII and Garland in IX - Namesake, not Samesake. Drake Clawfang
Krystal: Which poses some questions. If Cloud and Squall have a friendly rivalry in Kingdom Hearts, will their relationship be somewhat different in Dissidia? And what would Kuja's reaction be if he has encountered Garland from the first Final Fantasy, considering the fact the the former was created by the Garland from FFIX?
Well we've seen footage of Kuja fighting Garland, so there you go. I'm guessing that, naturally, some of the heroes and most of the villains won't get along. Kefka didn't seem appreciated by CoD, for example. And speaking of the K-man, like it says on my userpage - how many Kefka vs Sephiroth vids do you think are gonna pop up on YouTube within a month of Dissidia's release? Drake Clawfang
Krystal: Lol. If there's a lot, I wouldn't be surprised.
Normal Enemies in the Board Stage
Hello, MooglePeru here, the only FF player from Peru. I'm stunned to hear about the "normal non-boss battles".I really wanted to fight, ya know, Goblins and Bombs and Behemoths and all of that stuff. Only clones of other characters? Is this really confirmed? Can someone explain me how this clone-stuff works?
I don't want that Dissidia becames Dinasty Fantasy Warriors. MooglePeru 15:31, 30 September 2008 (UTC)
I think that the enemys you fight (the non-boss ones) are just lower level versions of other characters. Possibly with a different color palette than their default to diferentiate them from their boss counterparts. Though i'm only guessing here they could have completely different costumes spesificly for the normal enemies. we wont know till it gets some sort of update from SE.Ex-Modes
I had talked about this a little on the Golbes talk page, but im wondering what other people think. It seems to be that most (or at least the people making the edits) think that Golbezes Ex-Mode is him fusing with the Shadow Dragon, but to me it looks like te dragon is just wraped around his shoulders and not nessisarily fused with him. Am I alone on this or do thers share my veiw? or at least dont think hes fused.Template:RihyaTalkbox2

its also on the official site under the FFIV section.Template:RihyaTalkbox2

Spiky hair trailer?
I need to see a screenshot. Not just me, but the whole wiki deserves it. Since i'm here, let me state my favourite users!
Bluehighwind
Drake Clawfang
ILHII'm flattered, of course. But wasn't there someplace more... um... appropriate to say that?meh i was boredYeah, watching the trailer on slow and don't see any spikey hair...well besides the spikey hair of every other character. You want a screenshot of what exactly? I'm not aware of any "Spiky Hair" trailer. He's talking about the edit somebody made in the Final Fantasy VII character section that says "as well as pausing at a certain point in the trailer to reveal blonde spikey hair as the camera angle focuses on Sephiroth's right-hand side for a split second."Has anyone acctually seen this "blonde spikey hair"? If so I would love to see proof, if not shouldnt the edit be removed?I know what the editor was talking about. Here is the screen ->Cloud Outline. The white shadow on the right looks like Cloud's head, but someone should probably get rid of the edit. It is not hard proof or anything.Done. I guess if you squint a bit it does look like a silhouette of clouds head, but like Oranejo its no proof of anything.Even though it's obvious Cloud is going to be in this, better to keep that out. Anyways TGS is this weekend. If my predictions are correct, Tuesday night scans will reveal Bartz and Ex-Death and then Thursday during TGS Cloud and Terra will be revealed in a new trailer in the same fashion Sephiroth and Kefka was.If that were to happen I would dance and sing, though honestly im hoping for more gameplay vids and story exposistion, but yeah go character confirms. woo!
Also on a different note the talk page is moving a little slow, would it be time to archive?I think we'll get more gameplay clips after TGS. The ones they posted on the Official site was from the playable demo at DKΣ3713 and Garland was the final playable character for that version of the demo. They're going to have another demo at TGS so they'll most likely start posting clips of that one later.my seven year old sister (who gets final fantasy off of me ) showed me the outline. It happens when you FADE in and out from a camera angle. Look closer. He will be revealed at TGS 2008, oct 9-12Yeah, it was pointed out by somebody in the discussion above that you started...did you really have to start another discussion for this when you started one above it?
EDIT: No need to be immature about it.Template:HenryA
New interview
http://trendy.nikkeibp.co.jp/article/pickup/20081003/1019450/?P=1
So can anyone translate this? omamus
I tried to auto-translate it and ,surprise surprise, it didnt work. So no avail on that frontPerhaps it's because you tried translating the whole page. It's better to translate it piece by piece, then saving it into a document and...try to make some sense of it. Auto-translators have this funny way of being true to the grammar rules of the original language, but you can't ask too much from a machine, right?
I'll attempt to place the interview by auto-translator piece by piece. If you deem it necessary to eliminate, or if you wish to make better sense of it, go ahead. Trying to make some sense of the interview piece by piece can be tough.
[Text eliminated, as an alternative was given. Please do not restore it, thank you. Bluer 16:26, 7 October 2008 (UTC)]
Alright, just in case this isn't very legal or something: I'm willing to undertake any responsibility on the matter; I'm just attempting to provide people over here with the article so that discussion can be further established. I added the pictures so that the relevant captions are added: feel free to dispose of them if they have no more use for. This interview doesn't reveal much other than the expected: that probably there'll be new reveals for the TGS, but that the guys at S-E will attempt to provide a demo. The interview mostly deals with the technical aspects, and of the relevance of this project to the Final Fantasy series (that means it ain't a spoiler-ific interview, guys. Far as I see, tho)

- This part is gibberish because it tried to translate "Tetsuya Nomura" even though proper names are not meant to be translated. Imagine if you tried to translate "Dick Grayson" in another language ("dick", "gray", "son") ;) Fire 2 09:46, 7 October 2008 (UTC)
Here is a proper translation done by somebody on GameFAQ:
- First, please tell us briefly what this "Dissidia: Final Fantasy" game is.
Takeshi Arakawa (TA): This is a fighting action game to celebrate the 20th year of the "Final Fantasy" (FF) video game series.
- Where did the idea to make a fighting action game based on the RPG series "FF" come from?
TA: Actually, Nomura, the creative director, began thinking about this concept 7 years ago and already wanted to make a fighting game. Last year, the "FF" series celebrated its 20th anniversary and this is to commemorate that. The project itself began a little before that so the development has become somewhat more lengthly than expected.
-Had it already been decided that "FF" characters would fight at that original point?
TA: Yes, that was decided at the start. We were going to have main characters appear against their rivals, selecting 2 characters from each of the FFs that had been released at that point, i.e. I to X, and fight each other.
-The "FF" series' characters which appear in this game already have their own stories but how will they be introduced?
TA: " Dissidia: Final Fantasy"'s story is not directly linked to the "FF" stories these characters come from. However, we have designed it so that, as you get closer to the game's ending, there will be some kind of link you can see relating to each one of them. Also, although this is a different world and story, the characters will keep their recognisable personalities so fans can rest assured. (Laughs)
Although characters from all the series from "I" to "X" will appear, we've yet to show all of the characters from "V", "VI" and "VII" who will appear. I think we will be able to show a few of them at this TGS.
- Since the series' history spans 20 years all the instalments probably have some different fans. Is it difficult to convince them all?
TA: It was very difficult. I have worked on the main series where I have to keep asking myself "Am I making something that isn't "FF"?" That's because this isn't really a series in the conventional sense as each new instalment tries very hard to be different from the previous one. With "Dissidia: Final Fantasy" on the other hand, we have to cover 20 years of "FF". In the complete opposite from the usual goal here we have to keep asking ourselves "Is this truly "FF?" That's why the development staff had to play through the entire series and not only did they have to go over the scripts and the story, they also had to study the fan communities of each of those games. The problem was that almost all of the development staff were players of the "FF" series. Since "FF" is such a big title, the development staff's opinions as players were very diverse and so many decisions became heated debates. (Laughs)
-Of course, not only will the opinions on the series differ but also that on individual instalments.
TA: Indeed. There are lots of good parts and so the view of what has to be left out is always different. Those choices were really difficult. Although alot of it eventually went to a vote, deciding everything like that would have made the game too round. So we also tried to leave in the things which we thought players would enjoy.
-To represent the characters who came to the series around the Famicom (NES) era seems particularly difficult.
TA: The graphics for the games since "VII" are quite beautiful and so those characters are carefully designed not to look too different from those images. On the other hand, with the characters from "VI" and before on the sprite-based NES instalments, we tried to preserve the features that people remember of them when we render them in modern 3D. I've tried to create a design and a story that preserves the memories of all the people who have played "Final Fantasy".
-Although there are many concepts associated with fighting games, why did you settle on the style of a 3D environment you can freely move around in?
TA: This game's development team is behind the battle scenes of the PS2 Action-RPG game "Kingdom Hearts 2". I thought it would be fun if we incorporated the amount of freedom that comes with 3D into a fighting game. Because there aren't that many fighting games with an Action-RPG style concept, I thought the players' expectations would be a little low too.
-So new players could easily play it too, right?
TA: Yes, by making a free-roaming 3D environment with controls that allow for simplicity in play. This is because a fighting game's rules where various characters appear to the left and right of the screen while you input various commands to execute special moves is incompatible with a free-roaming 3D environment. We tried to make it so that simple button inputs would let you fight as you like. I think it'll be so easy to fly and run up walls that you'll feel like a hero playing it. -It seems like we'll be able to use the PSP's networking capabilities to fight.
TA: Yes, 2 players can fight each other. As well as direct confrontations, Players can exchange customised AI characters and have each other fight those. -What will battles consist of?
TA: The main game is a single player campaign where you level up and shop in order to customise your character. The main part consists of using that customised character to fight. This game's characters's degree of customisation varies with their levels and so you'll theoretically never see a battle among equals. It's a bit of a competition to see who can improve their character the best.
-How is the development towards the December release?
TA: Since we knew from the start that this was quite a large game, our schedule has been tighter than usual. So it's not too hectic but the development team are really giving it their all. Although even now the team is getting ideas, we are in the process of fine-tuning.
-Were there any technologically difficult points?
TA: The PSP's media, the UMD, caused some trouble. Current generation home video game consoles have quite a lot of memory so we can program them to read data off the DVD in the background to make it a stress free gaming experience. However, in the case of a handheld console like the PSP, having the UMD spin too much takes up a lot of battery. But if we don't do it at all, loading times increase and so does stress. Programmers had a hard time finding an efficient compromise. -How is the TGS version shaping up?
TA: The Game Show will display the newest demo version and many demo consoles will be available. This time there is a choice of 6 characters. This is probably the last chance to play before the release so please come and enjoy.
-Any last message?
TA: We're trying hard to include everything Final Fantasy in time for the release date, a whole 20 years since the series was born. We've tried not to desecrate the memories of all the FF fans out there so please come and enjoy it all again.
Also, although this game is technically an action game, we have taken into account that "FF" is an RPG to try to draw in people who don't play action games by including a system with the depth of an RPG. We have made it so that, whatever your age or gender, you can get to the end.
We've also made it so that you can always save your favourite bits of the game, designed to be played in segments of 5 to 10 minutes, so that you can use the time spent commuting or of a break to maybe even play against new people.
I personally believe that this title is a new start for the "FF" brand. I am glad to be part of this title which is the culmination of overcoming differences between players and between staff. And it's not actually possible to place a link to the GameFAQS translation in question instead of having it copied here, AT?Ah hah sorry. I thought it'd be easier to read this way since it's broken up into pieces on the forum post I found it in:
http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/genmessage.php?board=939394&topic=45825667&page=6I wouldn't call it a "proper translation". The author was pretty clear about their translating skills. I say let's get a second translation; we wouldn't want to spread potentially-misleading information, would we? Fire 2 17:18, 7 October 2008 (UTC)
Actually, it's pretty close to the original had you the time to compare. The only translation problems I see are the use of complex words against simpler ones. Aside from that, the document stays pretty true to the original.
Also, I tried doing a translation of the full page; it refused to translate. And, to be precise, while it does have the poor English and grammar skills expected of an automatic translation, it did made some sense compared to other similar translations; at least I understood the entire document from it. That last part made little sense because, while it may have referred to Mr. Nomura, it didn't explained what was the purpose of his mention; something that the rest of the document had little problem with.
