We at the Final Fantasy Wiki recognize that the question of "does Cloud love Tifa or Aerith" is a very old, very contentious one. The Wiki takes a neutral stance on this subject because it has caused much edit warring in the past; phrases such as "they share an emotional night together" or "they confirm their deep feelings" are subject to interpretation. As such, bar a few which are direct and inarguable, we do not document every single instance that romantic affection is implied for one of the two. It is broadly stated in many sources that Cloud may possibly have romantic affections for either woman, and saying so while citing one or two specific instances is enough for the scope of our coverage.
Citations are required when a character trait is deemed to be important or obscure enough that it warrants a specific source. Such a trait may not be broadly known and may not be self-evident, thus it requires a citation so visitors of the Wiki know the information is verifiable and factual. This very often happens with creation materials like the Ultimania guides, developer interviews, etc - these are not materials every person can access easily, so any information gleaned from them is to be sourced. In this case, there is an official source directly stating that Cloud and Tifa love each other, which is an oddity because it is rarely said outright if Cloud loves either woman, it is usually only implied or suggested. This statement absolutely requires a citation to verify its content is factual and inarguable.
The caveat with this statement is that the English Ultimania says something that the original Japanese Ultimania did not - the Japanese 10th anniversary Ultimania said that Tifa realized Cloud had a crush on her as a child (the specific wording is, according to a translator: "What was important to that (child) Cloud was Tifa--that faint, childish love is revealed in the mental world."). The idea that they realized they loved each other in the present-tense is specific to the English translation. Such alterations in translation have happened countless times in Final Fantasy media, and in such cases deference is typically given to the original Japanese material, because it is reliably the creator's intent and not a translator making an error or taking creative liberties. For this reason, this information has been treated the same as the Wiki treats all such translation discrepancies; stating what is said in the English version, and then noting what was said in the original Japanese.
DO NOT REMOVE OR ALTER THIS INFORMATION without discussing it first. Any alterations without prior discussion will be reverted. The staff of the Final Fantasy Wiki discussed carefully how to be include this information on the page and this is the format we have agreed upon. We do not wish for its presence to provoke edit warring or arguments.
Thank you for understanding.

Advent Children[]

Barret is living with Cloud and Tifa in 7th Heaven before and after AC. He was gone just briefly seeing about oil in Corel, but he returns. Why is someone editing that part? Not only Cloud and Tifa live in 7th Heaven. Marlene is his daughter, it's not like he is going to abandon her.

The length of time of Barret's departure is up for interpretation, but the novella implies him to be absent for a longer period of time than he is there, as Denzel is found and Cloud begins his delivery service after Barret leaves, suggesting several months at least, and of course by the time of AC he isn't back yet. I'm unsure if DoC mentions if he's come back after the events of the film or not. Regardless, for the most part it's just Cloud and Tifa in Edge before AC, strictly speaking by when they build the new Seventh Heaven. Doreiku Kuroofangu 15:40, June 8, 2012 (UTC)

Well Cloud is absent for long periods of time too, but the way it is put suggests that Cloud and Tifa are the only ones living in 7th Heaven which is untrue. If you cannot prove Barret never lives there then as you messaged me it's violation to remove it. Tot111 15:48, June 8, 2012 (UTC)

I messaged you no such thing. You removed an entire chunk of content, which is an entirely different matter. And after checking an exact translation of the novella to refresh my memory, it is still valid to not mention Barret, as the novella says he left the week after the bar opened, so no he was not living with them there for any notable period of time. Doreiku Kuroofangu 15:58, June 8, 2012 (UTC)
I'll also note that edit warring is still edit warring even with a discussion occuring at the same time. I am but one person, if others feel as you do than Barret can be mentioned, otherwise you need to provide a stronger argument that he should be, and in the meantime please stop adding it to the page until the discussion more clearly supports your proposition of such. Doreiku Kuroofangu 15:59, June 8, 2012 (UTC)

You told me removing something that couldn't be disproved was vandalism. It's the same thing with Barret living at Seventh Heaven, which it clearly states in the novella that he returned after seeing about prospects in Corel. It never says that he does not live there, or that he left between the time of AC and DoC and never comes back. In fact, in DoC he is seen driving in a truck with Tifa. You say it's up to interpretation how long he is there is not good enough. It's up to interpretation how long Cloud lives there too. If you go by fact he still lives there, because his daughter lives there, and it never states otherwise. 16:08, June 8, 2012 (UTC)

It does not state he's returning to Seventh Heaven, he says he's going to go visit Marlene after considering just writing a letter. As for up to interpretation, a flat stupid argument to make since in fact it isn't up to interpretation how long Barret is there, I was mistaken in stating such. Cloud is clearly there several months. Again, stop the edit warring and discuss this first, or you will be blocked, logging out doesn't hide the fact of who you are. Doreiku Kuroofangu 16:14, June 8, 2012 (UTC)

That is from Barret's story, which at the end he says he will return to Marlene giving her the letter personally after leaving her in the temporary care of Tifa and Cloud. Barret seems busy most of the time but he does return to Seventh Heaven after AC. It never states he does not live there. In fact from his character profile from Ultimania: "A muscular soldier who fights for the planet, Barret comes from the coal mining town of Corel. As a result of the Mako Reactor explosion, the ShinRa army burned the town to the ground. Because he lost his right arm, he now has a prosthetic. The surgical operation performed changed his arm into a literal gun. He is fighting against ShinRa because both his wife and his hometown were taken away by them. He is raising his best friend, Dyne’s daughter, Marlene, as his own child, and is surprisingly doting." Marlene is stated as his daughter which he is much devoted to, it never says he abandons her.Tot111 16:56, June 8, 2012 (UTC)

Your entire post after the second sentence is irrelevant, Barret's relationship with Marlene has nothing to do with if he lives at Seventh Heaven or not. As for the first two, if Barret does return after AC, do you have an official source besides the novella, which does not state he does so? Doreiku Kuroofangu 17:03, June 8, 2012 (UTC)

What is irrelevant is trying to make it seem as though Barret does not exist in Cloud, Tifa, or Marlene's life. You cannot prove he is not one of the family or that he does not live there from time to time as Cloud does. Also from Ultimania: "Thinking he could be at least of some use to everyone before his own life was lost, he left Marlene in Tifa's care and set off on a journey in search of an alternative source of energy in place of Mako. Upon finding out that Edge was under attack during the midst of his travels, he rushed over toward the crisis faced by his family and companions." Which goes to show he was only gone temporarily on a journey, and that he did return to Marlene. Tot111 17:24, June 8, 2012 (UTC)

I don't see what the big fuss over 1 word is, however I agree that if Barret doesn't live with Cloud & Tifa he should not be mentioned, seeing as how it's worded makes it seem like Barret lives with them.C A T U S E 17:30, June 8, 2012 (UTC)

"You cannot prove he is not one of the family or that he does not live there from time to time as Cloud does. " - Actually I can, as in no canon source says he does. If you have one, provide it. And that Ultimania quote you twist to your own interpretation. All of this is your opinion on things that do not line up with the facts, if you have official sources that talk of Barret as living with them, provide them. Otherwise you are making things up and are still edit warring. Doreiku Kuroofangu 17:34, June 8, 2012 (UTC)

It is unknown if Barret has a home and where. It is likely he comes to Seventh Heaven time to time but perhaps only in a role of a guest, we can't know.Keltainentoukokuu 17:53, June 8, 2012 (UTC)

Sorry to bother all of you but I think there should be a section called "exburst" and that is were limit breaks should be filed under WITH materia. At the start of FFVII cloud starts of with thunder 1 and ice 1 (renamed blizzard in later games). That is the only reasone why I recomend the abilities section, if the editers figure adding materia is pointless then I guess it's cool if you don't bother with the abilites thing.

No, it's because everyone can equip most materia. PX173 11:29, 21 June 2009 (UTC)

Plot Warning Weirdness[]

When the plot spoiler warning is wedged between two other divisions (on this page, the picture and the character information divisions), it will "merge" into the one on the right, causing problems. It only happens in Firefox (don't have Opera installed right now, but I'm assuming it would happen in it, as well). In IE, it moves down below the picture, leaving a larg portion of blank space.

Here's a screenshot I made of this page while viewing it in Firefox.

I'm not exactly sure how this would be resolved, but I just thought I would point it out. Perhaps the picture on the left should be moved to another section.

The problem varies from browser to browser. I have trouble on some computers, too. I'll move the screenshot for our IE users (I have Firefox and it shows fine for me). Crazyswordsman 04:14, 4 June 2006 (UTC)
Well, that's weird, because that screenshot was taken using Firefox. But since it's fixed, I guess it doesn't matter. Though, I've noticed this on other pages with similar layouts. (For example, the Edge page. [This has been fixed, though.]) B 006 20:23, 4 June 2006 (UTC)

Hero Sources[]

Last Order was retconed by Crisis Core[]

Well Crisis Core is being played, and it's been confirmed by players and myself, to have Last Order completely retconed.

Sephiroth is tossed into the Mako pit by Cloud just like in the original FFVII, the Compilation no longer has changed that vital aspect ofFFVII. Tifa doesn't wake up to have that touching reunion with Cloud either.

I for one think it's pretty awesome and figured you editors should know ^^. 19:22, 13 September 2007 (UTC)Makoeyes987

Last Order was a bonus feature of the Advent Children DVD; it was never released separately and was almost never advertised; its initials don't follow the AC-BC-CC-DC pattern of the other titles; heck it wasn't even made by Square Enix (it was commisioned to Madhouse Studio). Last Order was never an "actual" part of Compilation of FFVII, it was just a bonus feature. Izlude Tingel 08:27, 14 September 2007 (UTC)
In an unrelated news, rumors are popping out that a remake of FFVII is under way for the Blue。 08:42, 14 September 2007 (UTC)

Cloud's Birthday[]

This is just pure speculation, but could the birthday in the instruction booklet to Final Fantasy VII be wrong? Could this be Zack's birthday? Zack seems more like a Leo than Cloud does anyway (being charismatic for one thing). Remember Cloud assumed parts of Zack's personality due to his Jenova cells and this could be the only logical redaction of the conflicting birthdates.

You mention the instruction booklet, but his birthday is on August 19th in the booklet! Correct, if wrong... but then why does August 11th show up everywhere else...? [For example, bio on Advent Children website.]

Cloud's problem is false memories of being in soldier. He still has memories of his past before ShinRa. AJ Werefang 02:44, 28 March 2009 (UTC)

Guy, that message is over a year and a half old. Besides, Cloud ain't godly. Drake Clawfang 17:51, 21 May 2009 (UTC)

In the first paragraph of his background, it states that he believes himself to be too good for the other children. Then it claims that he thinks he isn't good enough for Tifa. I'm pretty sure there's some kind of contradiction going on here, even with the traumatic event at the reactor - people don't just 180 like that. Chocotard 21:55, 3 May 2008 (UTC)

BlueHighwind TA.png

You said it - he feels worthless and has low self-esteem. So why would he consider himself to be "better" than the other children? I mean, there's complex, and then there's split personalities. Chocotard 22:01, 3 May 2008 (UTC)

He probably had an inferiority complex. Mergal 13:30, 25 May 2008 (UTC)

I have always thought it was that Cloud felt he was better than Tifa's friends, why would she hang out with such silly people, but he felts inferior to Tifa herself. He is really complicated but that was the way I always looked at it. Dhoonib 04:11, 28 September 2008 (UTC)

First Tsurugi/Ken - Fusion sword?[]

I know that the swords seem to have no official name, but the Kingdom Hearts wiki insist on simply callin' it the Fusion sword instead of the more universal term, First Tsurugi/Ken. I dunno, but I think it seems sorta stupid to just call it just 'fusion sword' instead of its universal term even though refers to the main blade. Still...Kaihedgie 20:08, 31 January 2009 (UTC)

Why make the First Ken anyway? why not keep the Buster sword(i know i know he was using it for zack's grave) But if it's so lengendary and powerful that Angeal would rather die than use it in combat! And in FFVII why is it out matched so quickly?

"Use bring about wear, tear, and rust. So I only use the blunt side." He is trying to presserve it. Also, it is actually useful until you leave midgar or steal Hard Edge from SOLDIER 3rd in Shinra building. This is actually longer than any other character's weapon. AJ Werefang 02:50, 28 March 2009 (UTC)

But in the movie, the poor old Buster Sword has plenty of rust and maybe even some wear and tear!! *Faints* I think it's kinda suck-ish that Cloud left that sword there, I quote Zack "My honor, my dreams, they're yours now" (that's nearly right) and he said this whilst giving cloud the Buster sword so he kinda just left Zacks honor and dreams where he died... Angeal Hewley 00:48, 14 July 2009 (UTC)

Odd hypothesis[]

It's impossible, really. The Ancients were only able to seal Jenova away. Cloud and his party however, managed to kill Sephiroth, who was fused with Jenova in his ultimate form, without the help of the Ancients aiding them in the battle. If anything, it's Cloud's emotional attachment to both Zack and Aeris. Kaihedgie 01:02, 4 March 2009 (UTC)

Sephiroth Dissidia Artwork.png

Hesitant to drag this back up, but there are a couple hints he might be. First one is in the City of the Ancients, in that resting area. If you talk to the glowing blue orbs near the entrance, he says something along the lines of "I don't understand. It's all jumbled. Are these the words of the Ancients?" I don't remember word for word, but it's almost exactly what Aeris says when she first gets to the Temple of the Ancients. Secondly, in the ending, he says he can feel the Promised Land. Only Ancients have that ability according to everything the game's said before.

As for the voices in Cloud's head, my best guess is that it's mostly his fractured psyche. You have three entities by my count, one of which is Cloud's true self or possibly his younger self to remind him of his past, then Sephiroth's ability to exert his control, and a third helpful one that gives Cloud info he really has no way of knowing once you factor in he was never really in SOLDIER. The last one is the most interesting, because there's no good way of telling who it is or how Cloud is getting the info. If it's Zack, it may just be memories of things he told him. If it's not, or even if it is, it might also indicate Cloud has a limited ability to hear things from the Lifestream, which would require Cetra heritage.

We'll probably never have a straight answer, but there are certainly things there to tease at the idea. Bluestarultor 20:24, July 17, 2010 (UTC)

Cloud only talks to Zack while he's with Aerith, and Aerith being an ancient and part of the Lifestream can communicate with Cloud through said Lifestream. And also, I believe, though I'll have to check on this, that even after Jenova crashed it brought a plague upon the Cetra so it's extremely hard to believe that a Cetra could have Jenova cells merged with their body. And Cloud's ability to beat Sephiroth relates to him being a "failure" and not a genuine copy of Sephiroth as stated by himself at the end of the game. Cloud Being Playable[]

Cloud Strife Hasn't been a playable character in any of the new games i hate to have to use bad graphics to play cloud. Basically make a new game with cloud in it im tired of playing characters that i've never heard of before i want to see Cid, Cloud, Barret, Yuffie, There's only one person that's playable that i recognize and that's Vincent! I wanna see them all together again in a game it's been what, 11 years?!

Is Cloud Famous?[]

I've heard about him my friends have heard about him everyone who knows what final fantasy is knows who Cloud is..So yes i'd think he's one of the most famous characters of Final Fantasy but then why is he only the main character once?

There has only been one opportunity for Cloud to be the hero because AC is a movie, DoC is a shooter, and BC and CC are set before he was a hero. Don't worry though, VII is so popular that only an ignorant baffoon would stop making them. AJ Werefang 19:12, 31 March 2009 (UTC)

Age anomaly?[]

Umm... It says that Crisis Core takes place seven years before FFVII. But why has Cloud aged only 5 years? What, does he have one birthday per year and a half? PX173 11:35, 21 June 2009 (UTC)

According to FFVII's truly messed-up timeline, Crisis Core actually begins in the year 2000, but the entire Nibelheim business happens in like 2002. The game never bothers to tell you this, and really it feels like only a couple of months. For example, this means that despite the fact that Zack and Aeris were supposed to be dating seriously, they only went on two dates in two years. This shit is bananas. --BlueHighwind 12:45, 21 June 2009 (UTC)

Omnislash Changes[]

I made a quick change to Cloud's limit breaks from Advent Children (once again, just ignored), because we are not sure that the attack he uses in ACC is in fact the original Omnislash, without being stated by Square, we can only make an assumption.Derekoe 17:06, 6 August 2009 (UTC)

No, we can also make deductions. Cloud glows blue when he uses it, as he does when using all his Limit Breaks - he never glows at any other time. The attack consists of fourteen rapid slash attacks, finishing with an overhead two-handed slash. Sounds like Omnislash to me. As with, say, Kefka's influences from the Divine Comedy, it's a matter of deductive reasoning. Drake Clawfang 17:09, 6 August 2009 (UTC)
Really, because he didn't glow blue when he used Blade Beam, and he didn't glow blue when he used that same overhead slash (Which could be "deduced" as Braver) that sent out three blades of energy during earlier in the Sephiroth fight.Derekoe 17:19, 6 August 2009 (UTC)
He didn't glow blue when using Blade Beam, but the sword does, and the sword glows during several Limit Breaks. As for "Braver", he doesn't use it during the Sephiroth fight, it's similar to Braver but it isn't. Simple. Drake Clawfang 17:21, 6 August 2009 (UTC)
"It's similar to Braver, but it isn't?" Sounds like that deduced Omnislash you were just talking about. It LOOKS like Omnislash, but it isn't, by your reasoning.Derekoe 17:26, 6 August 2009 (UTC)
Sephiroth Dissidia Artwork.png
EDIT CONFLICT - TMINBC said it well, but I'll say it anyway. No, it isn't Braver. It's similar to Braver in that it's an overhead slash, but there's no blue aura. Omnislash, on the other hand, both looks like Omnislash and has the blue aura signaling it is a Limit Break. It's a simple thing to understand, Blue Aura = Limit Break. Drake Clawfang 17:32, 6 August 2009 (UTC)
Yes, but how can we say that the blue glow even means it's a Limit Break? The blade only glows blue during Blade Beam, but that could really just be because of the energy gathering to be sent out. And then let's not forget, Barret would appear to be using Big Shot or Mind Blow, and Tifa seems to use most of her Limit Breaks against her fight with Loz without the use of the blue glow. There's also the fact that Limit Breaks aren't accompanied by a blue glow, but an orange burst before there useDerekoe 17:37, 6 August 2009 (UTC)
How can we say it's a Limit Break? Uh, because it happens whenever Cloud does a Limit Break! Again, deductive reason, not hard to figure out. For Barret, he does use one of those, that's noted on his page. Tifa, I frankly never thought she used her Limit Breaks, because as you said, no blue aura, but I believe official materials confirm them. And the color of the aura - now you're just splitting hairs. Drake Clawfang 17:41, 6 August 2009 (UTC)

Yes, maybe I am splitting hairs, but suddenly you agree that people were using their Limit Breaks without the use of this blue aura, but somehow still say that the use of it means it's a Limit. What about Cloud's rush up to Bahamut SIN high above Edge, he's engulfed in a blue aura, but I don't remember that Limit BreakDerekoe 17:50, 6 August 2009 (UTC)

Excuse me? No, I don't agree they use it without a blue aura, not sure where you got that from. And yes, that was Climhazzard he used. Drake Clawfang 17:55, 6 August 2009 (UTC)

That's odd, because Climhazzard is a stab, and then a jump up out of the enemy, not a rush into the air Derekoe 17:57, 6 August 2009 (UTC)

....that's what he does. He stabs Bahamut, runs along his length and leaps off. Drake Clawfang 17:59, 6 August 2009 (UTC)

I can sort of agree to that, but it still looks different. The problem is, people were stating the blue aura=Limit Break, when several characters clearly use their Limit's sans that aura, so it seems odd to state that the aura is the clear definition of using a Limit Break when other characters aren't seen with them. Derekoe 18:08, 6 August 2009 (UTC)
"several characters clearly use their Limit's sans that aura". Who? I count Tifa, and have edited her page to note that those may not be true Limit Breaks. Barret, his gun is shown to crackle with green energy when using his apparent Limit Break, same basic idea. Drake Clawfang 18:11, 6 August 2009 (UTC)
With Barret, it seemed to be more mechanical in nature, since the middle portion of his gunarm is fashioned like a rail gun (which use electromagnetic energy). Tifa, on the other hand uses her beat rush, somersault, and others without the aura. So just because there is no aura when they do an action that is clearly their Limit Break, it doesn't count as one?
I'm too bored to repeat myself for Tifa, just re-read my last comment. Drake Clawfang 18:23, 6 August 2009 (UTC)

Oh god, whatever. If people aren't actually going to try and understand what I'm trying to say, then forget it. It's the internet anyway, and people will always pass off their opinions as fact Derekoe 18:27, 6 August 2009 (UTC)

It helps when they support their claims with viable evidence, which you have yet to disprove. So yes, if you can't counter or disprove our arguments, then drop it. Drake Clawfang 18:33, 6 August 2009 (UTC)

Isn't it reasonable to say that Cloud glows blue during his limit's because he's infused with mako whereas tifa and barret are not? Cloud is the only character that has a soldiers build in the movie, so he is the only one to glow blue durring limits, fair enough? hence blade beam, climhazzard and omni slash were used but that doesn't mean that every overhead slash cloud ever uses always has to be braver, unless he glows blue before he does it... 20:03, 13 August 2009 (UTC)

Sephiroth Dissidia Artwork.png

oh I wasn't suggesting to put that theory into the article, theres no source no official confirmation etc etc... I was just trying to finish the argument where derekoe was saying that the blue aura doesn't prove anything because tifa didn't glow blue durring her limits... sorry for the misunderstanding 01:05, 15 August 2009 (UTC)

Cloud's Appearance[]

At the beginning of that paragraph, it said "Cloud is of short height". Do you guys really think so? Cloud is 173 cm (5'8"). That's 1 cm taller than me. I'm 16 and 172 cm (almost 5'8"). It said Cloud's 5'7" in the book, but that's a misprint. 173 cm is not 5'7", but 5.7 ft. I think that's what they meant?

It's not short but not very tall either, I'm 16 as well and 182 cm. -- Kyrel 19:29, September 16, 2009 (UTC)
I'm beyond caring about heights at this point, too many people care too much about too little, and there's not enough caring left for me. So I don't care. Seriously, too many people are nitpicking over Cloud's height. It's so stupid. Drake Clawfang 19:34, September 16, 2009 (UTC)
People change his CM height to something that isn't used in the manual, the feet and inches stay the same unless changed... and then they get changed to match the latest, wrong CM height. It's annoying and stuff.
I'm six-foot, possibly taller... and my brother's 5'7" and we consider him short. Maybe that's just because he was really tall and then stopped growing at thirteen. But he is actually short. 5'10" is probably average. But then, I don't know, because I'm tall. I don't want to be tall. And yet I do at the same time. But that has nothing to do with this conversation.
My manual uses CMs. So I assume the feet and inches are just fan-conversions, right?  ILHI 21:11, September 16, 2009 (UTC)

Number 9[]

I wonder if Cloud's supposed "number" is 9... as in Cloud Nine.

Crisis Core Limit Break[]

Why is this here? The chart isn't needed, it is Zack's limit break, the only thing that is related to cloud is the name a little bit and the fact that because of Cloud, Zack obtained it. Should we fix it just to say that Cloud just helped Zack obatin it? Fallen-Todesengel 21:44, June 7, 2010 (UTC)

Support removal, the "Other appearances" section covers Meteor Shots adequately since, as you say, it isn't Cloud's attack, it belongs to Zack. Doreiku Kuroofangu 21:48, June 7, 2010 (UTC)

Pruned the hedge that is Cloud.
Wonder if we should add a weapons section like other major character pages are receiving (Squall, Lightning, etc). Also, I'll let an FF7 editor fill out the Etymology section as they surely know more about it than I do and I am unsure if the "Lightning is based on Cloud" trivia is still legit so I left it out for the time being. "Maybe because it's a game feature?"

I disagree. In terms of a game feature, the Buster Sword is as important as the Hardedge. He appears with his Buster Sword in cinematics, yes, but that's not a "game feature" as you describe it.

The Buster Sword isn't that great. Crisis Core tells us it is just as strong as a normal SOLDIER blade, and an umbrella. And VII tells us it's the worst weapon to have.

But anyway, the point I was going to make was Cloud using a gun is just as important as Cloud using the Buster Sword in non-gameplay sections. Or at least a note to say he evidently has skills with a gun as he was a Shinra soldier.

Of course, this doesn't really have much presence in the current state of the article. There'd have to be another section. 16:38, September 20, 2011 (UTC)

Cloud doesn't want to be old??[]

My brother had a suggestion of something to add to Cloud's trivia. It seems to him and a few of his friends (I never noticed it much) that Cloud "doesn't want to be old" due to a few things that happened in the game. The first example I was given was, when you go to the Chocobo farm outside of Kalm, the little boy selling Chocobos calls Cloud and company "old folks" and Cloud questions him saying that. The second one was, at one point of the game, Cid refers to Cloud as "young" and he responds with "Phew....".

I don't find any importance in adding it, but I figured I'd bring it up anyways. Cloud Strife66660 03:00, December 28, 2011 (UTC)

Cloud's feelings on ageing are unknown as it's not directly said in the game. The examples you provided could be interpreted in more than one way. If it was stated in the game it would go to personality section, not trivia. :)Keltainentoukokuu 03:05, December 28, 2011 (UTC)

I figured that much, but i just thought I'd bring it up. Thanks :) Cloud Strife66660 03:10, December 28, 2011 (UTC)

Not that my opinion is Cloud's, but the guy did miss out on 4+ years of his life. I mean, when he went comatose he was all of 16 years old, but when he's awakened, he's 21. I'd say it gets even worse when Cloud discovers his "true self". But he's basically a 16 year old boy living as a 21 year old man. It may not seem like much a difference, but I think that someone that young would find it to be quite a huge loss of time. 05:35, February 4, 2012 (UTC)

Starting Level[]

I put this bit of trivia up only to have it removed "Cloud starting the game at level 5 is not an arbitrary decision. It has direct story implications. " and it was removed for this reason "rv, it really doesn't, starting levels in Final Fantasy often are arbitrary"

I'd like to know 1 other main character (not the Teacher character archetype) that starts and is in your party at a level above 1 and doesn't have a story reason for being so. Cloud being level 5 is directly related to the fact that he needs to be a higher level than he was in the Kalm Flashback. 15:52, February 3, 2012 (UTC)

Squall starts at level 7 in FFVIII (all other playable characters that join your party also start at a level higher than 1). I thought Cloud stared at level 6 but levels up to level 7 in the first battle against the soldiers? I thought this is an allusion to number 7. (And Squall leveling up to level 8 as his first level up is also allusion to number 8.)Keltainentoukokuu 16:58, February 3, 2012 (UTC)

Okay, well, guess I'm wrong. =/ And here I was, thinking it was an interesting fact that they bothered to level him up so that he had room to be level one in the flash back.

Cloud's Theme[]

I think the main theme of Final Fantasy VII should be listed as Cloud's "Considered" theme. Yes we all know it's not his real theme but it is highly considered to be cloud's theme. For example go to youtube and search "Cloud's theme" you'll see that many fans have selected the main theme of Final Fantasy VII as Cloud's considered them. The only reason why I think this should be is because if you look under Final Fantasy VIII characters you'll see they have considered character themes too though Final Fantasy VIII did not have character themes. This is why I believe it should say in this wikia that Cloud's theme is "considered" to be the main theme of Final Fantasy VII. I hope you all will agree. Thanks 02:25, February 10, 2012 (UTC)

Something similar is happening to Squall Leonhart. Actually, you make a good point now that I've read out your full argument. I tried what you suggested, searching for Cloud's theme brings up the main theme. So, I would say mention it, but I know some other users here disagree, so I won't put anything up yet.C A T U S E 02:41, February 10, 2012 (UTC)
I think it could be worded in a way that it isn't his official theme, but that the main theme plays when Cloud reveals his identity in the true Nibelheim flashback (?) and other (??) key moments, and is often associated with him by fans.Keltainentoukokuu 02:54, February 10, 2012 (UTC)
I think you make some very good points and so does Keltainentoukokuu. I think it should be mentioned under musical themes as his considered theme. CelestiaStar 20:09, February 12, 2012 (UTC)
Thank You all for agreeing with me. What should I write down under musical themes, should I put what was once there about it being his considered theme or maybe you'd like to make this edit Catuse? Just let me know. 23:29, February 14, 2012 (UTC)

You can go ahead and do it, since you brought it up. But IMO you should make an account -- not to advertise it, but so we can contact you about stuff, seeing as you're an active contributor it seems. C A T U S E 23:45, February 14, 2012 (UTC)

The thing is, the only character who can be accurately given a personal theme in VIII is Laguna. I don't agree with fan-picking because it's filled with conjecture, and, for example, "Maybe I'm a Lion" can in no way be associated with Squall, which is done consistently by the fanbase.
I think it's a fallacy to point a main theme as a personal theme, because due to the fact that main themes are extremely promiment and recycled themes of their respective games, and it's very probable they'll be used in character themes. For example, in XIII, "The Promise" is freely used for Serah's Theme; in V, "Lenna's Theme" includes its game's main theme's motif; in X, "Yuna's Theme" is an arrangement of Suteki da Ne, which is one of the main themes. - Henryacores^ 00:24, February 15, 2012 (UTC)

Playstation all-stars appearance canceled[]

Source Cloud was slated to be included in the upcoming fighting game "Playstation all-stars Battle Royal", and was going to be one of the last 4 characters announced. Both he and Old-Solid Snake were to be announced at TGS 2012 due to the 25th Anniversary taking place this year for both series, but due to unforeseen issues Cloud, as well as the other 3 characters, were cut from the final cast. Thought this was worth mentioning here in the talk page.

Don't know whether this has been discussed before, but with the updates of CC and the recent artwork mods in the Dissidia series, has there been any info on Cloud's SOLDIER symbol connection to Deepground, or are they just retconing it?

There has never been any official connection being made, so it's likely just a retcon.Keltainentoukokuu (talk) 00:24, November 7, 2012 (UTC)

Voices inside Cloud's head...[]

Just playing FFVII again after more than a decade. Got a little & curious question: who's voices that keep talking to Cloud inside his head at the first parts of the game? Couldn't find the answer from the article. Thx Pronunciation (talk) 02:59, December 19, 2013 (UTC)

The voice is Cloud's true self. It appears mostly as just a voice, but manifests on screen twice in the game: as a kid Cloud in the bit where Cloud gives the Black Materia to Sephiroth in the ruins of the Temple of the Ancients, and again in Cloud's subconsciousness when Tifa and Cloud fall into the Lifestream. After Cloud's psyche is restored the 'kid Cloud' integrates back into Cloud's main body and Cloud stops hearing the voice. Cloud's true self is the part of Cloud that Cloud wants to deny, the embodiment of his insecurities. It appears as a child version of him, perhaps to illustrate how this part of his psyche is weak and being neglected. The 'kid Cloud' wants Cloud to accept his true identity and remember his true past, so he can be whole again, and thus keeps trying to push thoughts into Cloud's mind to remind him. When Cloud is ignoring the voice the voice tries to make Cloud ask Tifa more questions, in hopes that Tifa will tell him the truth (this happens when sleeping in Junon right before the parade). When Tifa falls into Cloud's Subconscious she finds the kid Cloud sitting on the sidelines, still being neglected, but this part of Cloud is the only sentient part of Cloud, the one who still and always has known the true Cloud and Cloud's true past. Cloud becoming whole is represented in the Cloud's Subconsciousness scene with all the shadow Clouds, and then finally the kid Cloud morphing back into Cloud's main self.
Suggestions how to add this info to the article, anyone?Keltainentoukokuu (talk) 03:12, December 19, 2013 (UTC)

But I want to hear people's thoughts?--Magicite-ffvi-ios.png Technobliterator TC 22:25, July 4, 2014 (UTC)

When is something "worth" a forum topic? JBed (talk) 22:30, July 4, 2014 (UTC)
I hardly think a minor change like this is worth creating an entire forum page when it will not generate as much discussion. This is more of a vote than anything.--Magicite-ffvi-ios.png Technobliterator TC 11:29, July 5, 2014 (UTC)
Right, you did it again "worth creating", "an entire forum page". Your perception of the value of the creation of a forum page is what I am questioning. Creating a forum page is not effort, nor is it a stress on the wiki, and a perception that it gets in the way of more important topics confuses me. Forum pages are more visible.
But anyway, I will throw my opinion in:
Displaying minimum and maximum values is already an oversimplification of a complex leveling system. But I still think it makes sense.
So why is showing the average so bad? Because it's not even (the average). It's a mid-point between the extremes. What's the point in that? The actual value is not going to averagely be the mid-point. I actually don't understand the system. It's confusing, there are just a lot of numbers.
Anyway, the final thing to prove averages aren't true is to take a look at Strength. (I think the cap is 100, but for some reason the program I use uses 99 in the calculation.) So at Lv99 it says the average is "98". This is wrong. Because the max value is more than 99, it is just that the cap makes it 99. It would be something like "97 - 104". So the average would be 100.5. So a majority will be 99 at Lv99. The average is incorrect. 13:14, July 5, 2014 (UTC)
Except you're creating and maintaining a forum page for a change so comparatively insignificant that, so far, affects a single page. It is more effort to appropriately name a forum title, create a new page for it, maintain it, and then frequently bump it. Compared to a talk page edit. Perhaps you need to bump it, perhaps you need to give the section header a title? But it is for something that relates to this particular page.
If a forum page contains multiple edits, if it is for policy, or for anything significant, I would use it. But this? This is the policy for not only a single page, but for a minor detail on a single page. Is it worth going through the effort to make one there, or is it worth the lack of effort to click a talk page and click add topic?
To the leveling system; yes, it may be simplified, and yes, it may be unlikely. But I want the stats to be oversimplified if not completely accurate. I know even if VII is my first RPG (it was when I played) that the stats do not come purely from the levels. I don't need to know the specifics. If I am interested, then I will hover my mouse over a number to learn a few more specifics.
Tifa's page tells me simply: " thus her physical stats are better than her magic stats, and she equips claw and glove type weapons. She has low HP growth." It does not illustrate this to me, I cannot compare it with any of the other characters. How am I to know how much better her physical stats are than, say, Barret? How am I to know if they are better at all?
It is an incorrect average because it is the middle of two extremes? Where is the assumption that the majority will be 99 at lv99 coming from? The game, perhaps. But it is still an assumption. A median between two extremes accounts for all possibilities, and the ability to check the exact two numbers is useful and accounts for any that we have missed.--Magicite-ffvi-ios.png Technobliterator TC 14:10, July 5, 2014 (UTC)
"It is an incorrect average because it is the middle of two extremes?"
In short, yes. VII doesn't simply add Rnd(0..x) after each level up. It's actually rather complicated in how it checks against a baseline to know if stat has increased lower on other turns. On investigation, it seems there are 12 different stat gains a user can get on level up.
So for HP, 0%:40%, 1%:50%, 2%:50%, 3%:60%, 4%:70%, 5%:80%, 6%:90%, 7%:100%, 8%:110%, 9%:120%, 10%:130%, 11(+)%:150%.
A random number, Rnd(1..8), in involved in the calculation. Which means there are eight possible gains on each level up, though the gains depend on the current stat of the player. A lower stat will achieve higher gains. I feel like in explaining how this system doesn't just have a mid-point average, I am finding myself thinking that the mid-point average is an accurate assessment. The game balances itself to keep the player in these tight ranges.
Perhaps that's my problem. The game keeps the player within these ranges and stating a specific value is more than an oversimplification. At least with ranges we aren't presenting guesses given limited data.
Though I feel like to find an average one should calculate the curve of a character achieving the mid-point of the random in the baseline calc on each level up. Except there isn't a mid-point, there are two! 4 or 5.
So maybe the average should be finding out what the stat would be if every time the character levelled up they took the same Rnd value. We'll be outputting eight values rather than 2. Perhaps from that we can find a better average. I wonder how different it would be. I wonder if finding out literally every combination would make any difference.
I think I'm more writing down my thoughts than contributing to this discussion now.
"Where is the assumption that the majority will be 99 at lv99 coming from?"
It's not an assumption. As I said, the 99 is a cap. If the cap were not in place the stat ranges for Cloud's Strength would be (likely) 97-104. The average? 101.5. 98 is not the average. If you wanted to be more accurate it would make more sense to think like this-- potential values: 97, 98, 99, 99, 99, 99, 99, 99. The average would be 98.625. That is, at least, closer to the truth. 15:50, July 5, 2014 (UTC)
May as well keep the indents at this level. Anyway;
From what I can tell, and as you said it yourself, the game may be varied, but not too varied to allow the stat to stray too far away from the numbers. Which means that the idea of getting an average between the numbers should be fine. But maybe not a mid point.
Based on your list of numbers, a (more accurate) average could be calculated with those instead. So if it were done that way, would there still be a problem? If not, it could be worked out that way instead for all the characters.--Magicite-ffvi-ios.png Technobliterator TC 16:11, July 5, 2014 (UTC)

I don't mind that format but maybe it should then say in text above it that the below values are averages.Keltainentoukokuu (talk) 12:59, July 5, 2014 (UTC)

BUMP. Inviting anyone to comment on whether my idea (average stats with the min-max in foots) is doable and should be implemented on Cloud's page, and future pages. You can ignore me and JBed's discussion above from ages ago if you think it's too much tl;dr to really give a shit and just discuss here. :D That said, I'll tl;dr our discussion: mostly uncertainty/opposition from JBed's side on the basis that it might not be the actual averages and just the middle of two extremes, my POV was that we can't determine an average particularly well.--Magicite-ffvi-ios.png Technobliterator TC 22:27, November 3, 2014 (UTC)

Ignore the LV and EXP not being bold, because it's being weird on me and doesn't work when I make LV and EXP th's like the rest. But I quite like this, can we agree on it?--Magicite-ffvi-ios.png Technobliterator TC 22:52, November 3, 2014 (UTC)

New bike game

I'm sorry if this has been mentioned before, but why doesn't Cloud have an "Abilities" section. I've noticed that others do and they seem to work fine. I could even make one myself if no one wants to trouble themselves. Anyways, I was just curious~ SilverRain (talk) 04:04, July 7, 2015 (UTC)

In FFVII characters don't have innate abilities apart from Limit Breaks.Keltainentoukokuu (talk) 10:23, July 7, 2015 (UTC)
Well, I was refering to how most of the cast has superhuman strength and agility, as seen mostly in AC. I just figured that it'd be worth mention that Cloud has very high physical strength, cognitive ability which ties into his reactions, being able go respond to two high speed opponents and deflect bullets, and has a very high amount of stamina and endurance, withstanding the brutality of Sephiroth's attacks and getting shot by Yazoo yhrough the chest. Oh and he also survived being impaled by Sephiroth before being exposed to Mako and Jenova Cells, so he already had some degree of bis endurance (albeit he did pass out afterwards). SilverRain (talk) 18:22, July 7, 2015 (UTC)
I don't think there is an example on the wiki where a playable character has an abilities section outside of the gameplay. Those are all the sorts of things that happen in battles.Keltainentoukokuu (talk) 18:54, July 7, 2015 (UTC)
Well in defense of that, not too many other playable characters have had a full length movie where they could display combat outside of their game's battle system. But if the wiki doesn't find it necessary, I'll drop it~ SilverRain (talk) 19:01, July 7, 2015 (UTC)
Well, we do have "Abilities" as an "Gameplay" outside section, as evidenced here. However it is usually for characters who are not encouterable in a fight and/or have also not-combat related abilities.—Kaimi (999,999 CP/5 TP) ∙ 19:08, July 7, 2015 (UTC)

I just wonder if we add it then should all playable characters basically have the same thing? Things to do with Cloud being an excellent fighter etc, is something that probably applies to most playable characters, seeing that you are demolishing opponents left and right in these games, and thus they likely show similar prowess in cutscenes outside of battle too. Guess they wanted to capture that in AC as well. In FFXIII for example Lightning performs impressive AC-like stunts in cutscenes, but also plays fast and strong in battles as a playable character. The story section mentions that Cloud has impressive prowess to a normal infantryman etc, so it is at least acknowledged.

The abilities sections were kind of tacked on, as they didn't always exist. Explaining "powers" to characters that don't have gameplay sections like Ellone or even Sin who doesn't use all of its cool stunts in the battles when you face it as a boss, it was thought they should have their section somewhere outside the story section, and thus the Abilities section was born.Keltainentoukokuu (talk) 19:32, July 7, 2015 (UTC)

Terra has the ability to fly while in esper form, Fusoya can dispel/remove the Giant of Babil shield and sever the link between Golbez and Zemus, Krile can speak to moogles, etc. There are a lot of characters who have abilities outside of battle. I believe we should have a Talent section on some of these characters articles. Fenrir9 (talk) 20:22, July 7, 2015 (UTC)

In Smash 4[]

Hi, I would take a new point of view about his special attacks, because I think the charge of the limit is his down special... Why? Because in the trailer all the special moves were shown in order (I think, starting with Blade Beam and finishing with that move and after the Final Smash (considering this one as the "definitive special move")), and it's more... "normal" to be a special move (taking the example of Gabranth in Dissidia, who all his HP moves before entering to EX mode are similar to this case) than a special mechanic like Little Mac's meter (because Cloud has an special animation for this "state", and Little Mac no). What do you think? PlayerIcon279.png Embrace the stillness of eternity... Timeman PlayerIcon152.png 10:34, November 18, 2015 (UTC)

Other media[]

The Cloud Strife#Other media section should probably be moved to Cloud Strife/Other appearances?Keltainentoukokuu (talk) 09:19, June 27, 2016 (UTC)

Trivia Notice[]

Trivia update

Now with the release of "World of Final Fantasy", "Dissidia Final Fantasy", "Smash Bro's recent title" , "G-BIKE FF7 (Mobile), "Dissidia opera Omnia" , "Itadaki 2017" and a few more. I Believe Cloud has the most playable appearances in all of Final Fantasy and most appearances all together. Gilgamesh = 19 Cloud = 33 - 37

Please correct me if I am wrong :) I don't really keep updated with Gilgamesh. 13:03, September 26, 2016 (UTC) (Not signed in) - Lance Torres

Well it says in the Final Fantasy series, and Smash Bro's and Itadaki aren't in the series, but yeah Cloud is probably the most recurring character. I think Gilgamesh is still nearly 30.Keltainentoukokuu (talk) 14:58, September 26, 2016 (UTC)
Appearances has Gilgamesh at 29 (or 28, not sure if XI's Gilgamesh is THE Gilgamesh) and Cloud at... I think 33? That's the sum of the sideicons on this pages and the number of entries on the other appearances list (minus one because WoFF's been mentioned twice for some reason)
Playable is no contest, half of the time Gilgamesh is an NPC boss. -- Some Color Mage ~ (Talk) 03:44, September 27, 2016 (UTC)

FF7 Ultimania Omega[]

There are some sources on tumblr claiming that the ultimania states that Cait Sith predicted Aerith and Cloud would get married. Is this true?(╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻ (ಠ_ೃ)Bully! 21:37, June 8, 2017 (UTC)

Yeah. [22] クラウドとエアリスの結婚式を期待するようなケット・シーのセリフが、ますますせつなさをかき立てる。 Cait Sith's line that seems to anticipate Cloud and Aerith's wedding arouses further sadness. JBed (talk) 22:37, June 8, 2017 (UTC)
Sounds like the guide writer's own spin on what Cait Sith said. Or does Cloud's star and Aeris's star aligning definitely mean marriage? If latter, could be trivia.Keltainentoukokuu (talk) 10:51, June 9, 2017 (UTC)

Death Battle appearance[]

Since the battle of Cloud vs Link is on the wiki, Like other fan made appearances. We should add the Cloud vs Guts death battle as well. It was created by screw attack, same as the Cloud vs Link.

~The Hero~ 18:23, June 26, 2017 (UTC)

I don't know anything about that particular fan content, but here's the policy for fandom content on the wiki. If you think it applies, would you like to add something?Keltainentoukokuu (talk) 20:54, June 26, 2017 (UTC)

I am actually glad you replied! You have helped me before in the past. I still have comments on your wall from a long time ago haha. Anyway yes I would like to add it, But I am a personal trainer for A.C.E fitness. I don't excel in writing at all. So if you vould add it for me that would be great! here is the YT Video >> I suppose it would go below the Cloud vs Link part in his wiki. Except unlike the Link one, Cloud wins this battle.

~The Hero~ 06:28, June 27, 2017 (UTC)

Well it's mentioned there now, I just added the link. Hope it looks okay to you.Keltainentoukokuu (talk) 20:54, June 27, 2017 (UTC)
