Ultimecia Castle blood[]

I was looking for an unsharpened version of the blood image in the Japanese data, however when I came to it in the viewer program, it showed the green blood scene.

Both the English and Japanese versions of the game have the green blood overlay in the data, off by default, and has scripts set-up to enable and disable the green blood.

What the Japanese version doesn't have that the English version does are instructions to run the script to enable the green blood on room entry.

I don't think this needs to be said on the page, I just found it interesting. JBed (talk) 18:46, November 21, 2015 (UTC)

Nintendo of America's Video Game Content Guidelines[]

Don't know how to put this within the article, the whole guideline is found within it. http://www.jjmccullough.com/Nintendo.php 16:15, May 14, 2016 (UTC)

Submariner[]

Haha, so くっそー isn't that terrible. Unless you consider something like "damn" terrible. Which the translation team clearly did! Basically they're just avoiding using "damn" and "dammit". I think the avoidance of those words is mainly an American thing, or a mid-90s thing, or maybe just a Nintendo of America thing.

Instances of "くっそー" in the script (not any variations), and here's what we get

  • Kefka at that time: "Son of a submariner!"
  • Kefka at Imperial Camp: "Oh, gripe!"
  • Terra at Mobliz: "Uh, oh..."
  • In some dummied dialogue: "Drat it all!!"
  • Kefka at Magitek Factory: "Crud!"
  • Someone in the flashback in Zozo: "Blast it!"
  • Locke at South Figaro: "Nuts!"
  • Lone Wolf at Narshe cliff: "Grrrr..."
  • On Blackjack: "Uh oh!!!"
  • Duncan at Duncan's House: "Darn"

Also

  • Siefried on trains "くそ!": "Impossible!"
  • Setzer when airship crashes near Maranda "くそっ...": "Urghh!"
  • Kefka on the floating continent "くそっ!": "Arrrgh! Curses!"
  • Getsahl in Zozo flashback "くそー": "Shriek!!!"
  • Relm says "くそじじー" at Tower of Fanatics: "You old fool!!!"

Son of a submariner is weird because it's more like censoring themselves than censoring the original-- there's nothing special that would compel them to translate that specific line as "son of a bitch". Probably doing it to take the piss out of the censor. Or just to make Kefka seem nuts. JBed (talk) 19:39, May 4, 2018 (UTC)

Unlimited[]

So, we could be talking about this: this? -- the cover for the English full DVD collection removed the shadow on her right nipple. The original artwork can be seen here.

Now the cover of the second DVD/volume of that collection is this, which was originally the artwork for the English DVD release of "Phase 3"/Vol.3. That image has been drawn with and without nipple even on the same site.

Aside: The site I'm linking to is an archive of ADV's old English site, which is now a porn site because of course it is. It looks like it has some artwork and details we might not. I can't seem to find anything of a Japanese site (aside from this). Unlimited also had an artbook but I don't own a copy. JBed (talk) 01:14, October 26, 2019 (UTC)

I think there are more than one image that they toned down the nipples part. This one is the one I'm talking about, compared to the uncensored art on Myanimelist. Monterossa (talk) 06:13, October 26, 2019 (UTC)

Ah, okay then. This is the normal Vol.2 cover art, although apparently the DVDs had reversible covers so I guess that means most of them have two. JBed (talk) 06:17, October 26, 2019 (UTC)
Actually, the reversible covers are just the JP artworks. I don't know where that cover gets used. It was probably just a promo poster. JBed (talk) 11:27, October 26, 2019 (UTC)

Final Fantasy VIII nazi uniform[]

I was reading an old website when I spotted something interesting.

Will the European version be exactly the same as the Japanese?
Apart from slightly more information in the tutorial, removal of a Nazi style uniform and a slight change in a weapon (to conform to European guidelines) the game is exactly the same.

We know about the added tutorials, and we know about (presumably) Selphie's Nanchaku. They changed a uniform? JBed (talk) 23:47, April 16, 2020 (UTC)

Found out. Caraway's band on his arm is blue in the English version and red in the Japanese. Also his entire outfit is slightly... greyer in the English version. Ever so slightly. I'm not sure what's that about. JBed (talk) 00:01, April 17, 2020 (UTC)
