Gilgamesh: Enough expository banter!
This talk page is used for discussing improvements to the page "Bypass event glitch". It is not the place for general discussion or sharing stories about the topic of this article.

STOP CAPITALISING PAGES!

The rule is "All letters are capitalised if they are all capitalised in game. "Wind drake": It's called "wind drake" in the game, so the page stays at that title. "Curse of the five wyrms" doesn't use capitals in-game so it doesn't here. And finally, "Kutan glitch" doesn't need capitalising because in a sentence, it is "the Kutan glitch".

I'm right.  ILHI 13:52, 14 April 2009 (UTC)

Actually I don't believe any of these things are ever named in any game, so what difference does it make? --BlueHighwind 13:53, 14 April 2009 (UTC)
Because the page title doesn't use capitals unless other rules make it use capitals. Kutan is a name so that's going to have a capital letter wherever it comes in the topic name (Glitch for Kutan, though that would be a stupid title). -- First letter of a page always has a capital letter (it has to) like in the start of a sentence.
It's "A glitch", not "A Glitch". Therefore page title is wrong.  ILHI 13:58, 14 April 2009 (UTC)
That would be for just a single "glitch". A non-specific glitch. In this case, somebody just invented the name, so we can make it a proper noun or not. --BlueHighwind 14:01, 14 April 2009 (UTC)
By the way, ILHI, stop saying "I'm right" on pages. You sound like an asshole, and it makes it very hard to agree with you. --BlueHighwind 14:02, 14 April 2009 (UTC)
Err? I don't know what your saying. BTW, I'm right. :D  ILHI 14:04, 14 April 2009 (UTC)
If you say "I'm right", no matter what validity your argument might have, all I see is a moron shouting his head off. Anybody with a good argument doesn't need to shout "I'M RIGHT". It also shows that you will be completely incapable of any kind of reasonable discussion, since you're just assuming "I'm right". Well you might not be right. I might not be right. That's why I never say it. I argue a point for to find the best possible answer. You seem like you argue a point to get your own petty little way of things. --BlueHighwind 14:11, 14 April 2009 (UTC)
It's half a joke, as evident on your user talk page where I said "BTW, I'm right" when I wasn't even making a point.  ILHI 14:14, 14 April 2009 (UTC)
I can't tell the difference with you. --BlueHighwind 14:15, 14 April 2009 (UTC)
:D  ILHI 14:17, 14 April 2009 (UTC)
Wikipedia's naming conventions, which are our naming conventions (because their naming conventions have good reasoning), say "Kutan glitch", I think.  ILHI 14:17, 14 April 2009 (UTC)
I've got to say, I agree with Blue's reasoning here. "Kutan Glitch" is universally proper because it is spacific. Also with "I'm right;" it's not justification.Wasn't identified as a joke when I posted--Werefang 14:17, 14 April 2009 (UTC)
You have a point, though I'm still not sure. --I understand the reasoning for this actually.  ILHI 14:24, 14 April 2009 (UTC)

Oh no, look at the trouble I caused. Hm. Blue actually said everything I was going to say, so good job BH, now I don't have to argue. I moved it becasue I thought it looks better. - +DeadlySlashSword+ 16:23, 14 April 2009 (UTC)

As long as you don't capitalise articles like the ones I linked to, things should be fine. Although moving articles requires linking, which is usually always done by me.  ILHI 16:40, 14 April 2009 (UTC)

Renaming?[]

Since this glitch also exists in the Advance remake, where Kutan is renamed Moghan, should this page be renamed 'Moghan Glitch?' The most recent translations take priority, after all. Tia-LewiseRydia - Young battle 13:53, December 14, 2011 (UTC)

That is a good point. Although I wonder if we could come up with a name that doesn't use the moogle's name at all?Keltainentoukokuu 14:12, December 11, 2011 (UTC)
Exiting South Figaro glitch? 79.69.194.138 19:05, December 11, 2011 (UTC)
What about Celes Replacement Glitch? Bluestarultor Best-of Stellar Arena sigicon BSA 19:17, December 11, 2011 (UTC)
This page includes info about having Locke change his sprite. While the whole new character thing is more interesting, the fact the page covers both should be incorporated into the title. 79.69.194.138 19:29, December 11, 2011 (UTC)
South Figaro and Celes glitch? Sort of like Master Command and Support Materia glitch; it's really the only way to include both aspects of the glitch in the name. Tia-LewiseRydia - Young battle 13:53, December 14, 2011 (UTC)

Just leave it alone. It's been like that for so long, i don't think there is a point (although meantioning the name change on the page should be done, if it hasn't already) Annoying Pyramid Head Ninja

No this one should be renamed, if only because the character was renamed in a newer release. No, the only glitch rename I'd argue against would have been the Death Penalty Glitch. - +DeadlySlashSword+ 15:21, December 13, 2011 (UTC)

If you want it renamed so badly, contact a mod ect ect. I honestly don't see a point, but i won't get into that (oh and classy for the derp summary, really) Annoying Ninja

Perhaps you should take take a gander through our Manual of Style before commenting on these sorts of things, hm? We discuss decisions before we make them here. Oh, and for the record, I am a mod. Please get a sense of humor. :) - +DeadlySlashSword+ 15:41, December 13, 2011 (UTC)

Well 1, if i was editing seriously here, i would. Right know i'm only commenting on this is pretty much, because i'm bored. I'm not very active here anymore. 2, i didn't know and 3, i was joking, if i was actually upset at the derp thing, i would of said "that upset me blah blah blah". Yuffie2211

I think Leaving South Figaro Glitch is a pretty good name, because the glitch specifically is that you can leave South Figaro when you're not supposed to be able to.Keltainentoukokuu 16:06, December 13, 2011 (UTC)

Ehhh...there's nothing stopping the player from leaving, so I don't think it's a good name, it's a bit wordy as well. Perhaps something that describes the glitch itself, like the Replacement Glitch or something of that ilk. - +DeadlySlashSword+ 18:12, December 13, 2011 (UTC)
There is the guard that stops the player leaving, but they can sneak past if they use the pause function, apparently. A bit like how to trigger the Home glitch I guess.Keltainentoukokuu 18:53, December 13, 2011 (UTC)
Leaving South Figaro sounds good. AmbieSushi 19:52, December 13, 2011 (UTC)
I don't like Leaving South Figaro Glitch. You can return to South Figaro later and then can leave normally, so I don't think that's a good name. It's also a bit oddly worded. I can't really think of a better name, though. Perhaps Locke's Escape glitch? Or maybe just South Figaro glitch would work. ScatheMote 22:06, December 13, 2011 (UTC)
It's not "a glitch to leave South Figaro" as much as it is "a glitch related to the leaving of South Figaro". It all depends on how you look at the name. "South Figaro Glitch" can be treated as an equally bad name, since it's not a glitch with South Figaro itself, but how AI still move when you are in the menu, and once South Figaro is left through utlising this, the problems/things that can occur.
I thought "Bypassing AI Glitch" would be a good name, since it goes down into exactly what the glitch is and what the glitch does.
However "AI" isn't the best word for the dood, and "bypassing" isn't necessarily the best word for getting past the dood, and it's not that great of a name at all really. 79.69.198.173 22:21, December 13, 2011 (UTC)

"Forgetting Celes Glitch?" AmbieSushi 22:19, December 13, 2011 (UTC)

"South Figaro Glitch" wouldn't be too bad a name, since it's all related to that location and can't be confused with glitches from other games as with some more ambiguous article names.Keltainentoukokuu 22:50, December 13, 2011 (UTC)

I can get behind "South Figaro Glitch." Bluestarultor Best-of Stellar Arena sigicon BSA 00:23, December 14, 2011 (UTC)
Sounds good to me. Tia-LewiseRydia - Young battle 13:53, December 14, 2011 (UTC)
I agree with this proposition. Likeacupcake 09:42, December 14, 2011 (UTC)
I have no problems with South Figaro Glitch. 79.69.197.73 11:18, December 14, 2011 (UTC)

In that case, I'll rename it to South Figaro Glitch. I'll leave a redirect to Kutan Glitch since it's been that way so long. Bluestarultor Best-of Stellar Arena sigicon BSA 12:39, December 14, 2011 (UTC)

That's a whole lot better. Thanks, Blue. Apologies for always asking questions though. Tia-LewiseRydia - Young battle 13:53, December 14, 2011 (UTC)

Suggestion to Revamp and Rename Article[]

I noticed that in 2011, there was a consensus to name this article "South Figaro glitch," and at that time the article discussed only the instance of this glitch that happens in South Figaro. Since then, the name was changed to "Bypass event glitch," and the content was expanded to include glitches from multiple games, all without any talk page discussion. I think that the article needs to be renamed and split, because right now it discusses two distinct things, both of which have better names.

First, the "sliding glitch" or sometimes "collision detection glitch." This is when, typically by opening the menu and performing certain menu commands at just the right moment while the party is moving, the party is able to move to some tile without the game recognizing that the party passed through some intermediate tile. In games that have this glitch, it can be performed essentially anywhere; however, it is mainly of interest when it is used to move the party past a tile without activating an event trigger that it contains. You can use the glitch to get the collision detection off by two pixels anywhere on the FFIV world maps, but it's of almost no interest anywhere other than Mist and Damcyan.

Second, "sequence breaking glitches." These are all the glitches that occur when the party goes somewhere or encounters characters out of order, typically in a way that wasn't meant to be possible, and often as a result of other glitches that made it possible for the party to attempt these odd things.

For example, the sliding glitch exists in FFIV. Once it has been used to walk east of Mist without entering the village, the sliding glitch is complete; the party is not supposed to be east of Mist without having experienced all the scripted events inside Mist, so that's the glitch. Once you are east of Mist, anything else that happens is not the sliding glitch. All of the oddities that occur with Kain, Rydia, and Tellah from that point onward are a separate set of sequence breaking glitches. These sequence breaking glitches would likely happen identically if you glitched yourself to Kaipo by some other means, like giving yourself the airship or using the 64 door hierarchy glitch.

As another example, the sliding glitch exists in FFVI. Once Locke has used it to slip past the soldier, the sliding glitch is complete; Locke is not supposed to be able to get to the far side of the solider on that map, so that's the glitch. Once you leave South Figaro, anything else that happens is not the sliding glitch. Celes being replaced with Kutan/Moghan is a separate sequence breaking glitch. And, indeed, it can also be triggered by using the airship glitch to go to any of several event triggers that force Celes into the party without having recruited her.

I would suggest that this article be rewritten as the "Sliding glitch" article, listing which games have sliding glitches, how to do them, and indicating what locations have event triggers that can be avoided with the glitch. There can also be a "Sequence breaking" article to discuss the overall concept; I would suggest at most a list or chart of all sequence breaking glitches in that article, because there are too many to have a readable article with a section for each, and many have their own articles, anyway. Some of the sequence breaking glitches in this existing article would need their own new articles, including the "Kutan glitch," which ideally would be about all party members that can be replaced with their Moogle placeholers. (Maybe it should be called "Moogle glitch'" or "placeholder character glitch.") A "Mist skip glitch" could discuss everything that happens with Kain, Rydia, and Tellah until the game freezes at Damcyan. Skipping the destruction of Damcyan would not go in that article, because that's merely another "sliding glitch" application.

It's unlikely anyone will take up on it unless you wanted to do it yourself. But you're allowed to add or change whatever if you think it would be better than before!Keltainentoukokuu (talk) 17:04, 6 February 2023 (UTC)
You're probably right. Well, as time allows, I will start writing new articles for the separate glitches, redirecting these sections to those articles, and then streamline it after every separate article I envision has content. --DavidK93 (talk) 01:21, 10 February 2023 (UTC)
Sounds good. The glitch articles are a niche part of the wiki and don't see much editing usually, so any improvements are appreciated!Keltainentoukokuu (talk) 20:22, 10 February 2023 (UTC)
