Gilgamesh: Enough expository banter!
This talk page is used for discussing improvements to the page "Battle Square". It is not the place for general discussion or sharing stories about the topic of this article.

This page needs a Locations section, and likely more info about the Showroom, but have no fear-- I'll get round to it in the next week. 79.69.193.80 19:54, January 1, 2013 (UTC)

I was playing in the Battle Square yesterday and something happened that I didn't know could happen. I kept getting reels which had three of the same handicap on it. What's more strange is on the first reel was Magic. Here's how it went:

  • 3 Magic > 3 Accessory > 3 Item > 3 Poison / 3 Small (DEAD)

Then immediately following this the same happened again:

  • 3 Magic > 3 Summon > 3 Weapon > 3 Item > 3 Support > 3 Independent>/ 0MP/Small/(HalfHPMP) - 4829pts.

I don't think it happened again, however I have noted down another string of reels but I did not note down the points at the end. So this could have just been what I selected or what I was forced with:

  • Magic/Magic/HP/Magic/All/Magic/All.

So what I'm wondering is has anyone else had a reel with only one type of handicap on?? 79.69.193.64 16:50, January 3, 2013 (UTC)

Yeah. That's fairly common. Dude it's been since 1997 where have you been. ;) I think it systematically breaks all the stuff that you have. Like if you didn't have any Magic Materia equipped it wouldn't give you that. I think there's also a setup where you get all "positive" reels every time (until maybe the last round).Keltainentoukokuu (talk) 16:53, January 3, 2013 (UTC)
I know somewhere else I've recorded reels where I got Small on every single reel. And possibly the same for Frog-- and I think I recall a time where Cure and Lucky 7s came up almost all the time. I never before remember getting three handicaps on the same reel... and it happened twice in a row! Details of reel bias needs to be added to the page. 79.69.193.64 16:58, January 3, 2013 (UTC)
Yeah the reels are def not randomly generated. I wonder how much your equipment and stats factor in it what you get. I'm fairly sure the reels where you just have one handicap are just designed to screw you over, and you never get a handicap you'd be immune to.Keltainentoukokuu (talk) 17:04, January 3, 2013 (UTC)

The article says Slow-numb doesn't carry over for battles, but it did for me. That may be because I'm playing the pc version? 98.249.7.77 23:08, February 23, 2013 (UTC)

Hmm. o_O Someone might have to test this but I have played the PC version and have a distinct impression gradual petrify did not carry over as I could get past those green lizards just as long as I defeated them before the clock runs out.Keltainentoukokuu (talk) 01:18, February 24, 2013 (UTC)

Whoever added the trivia about the D-type Equipment, THANK YOU! You made my day. All these years I thought I was the only person who ever noticed that. 72.135.207.47 05:39, August 2, 2013 (UTC)

"After winning the special battles for ten times the prize will be a Ribbon". Is it just once after winning 10 battles or after every 10 battles?

"had Cloud learn Omnislash (checked by counting the number of Omnislash items in the player's inventory)", "counting the number of Omnislash", Wouldn't that just mean you couold not have Omnislash, and just Ultima weapon to enter the special matches? If it means you need to have brought it w/ battle points, AND checks the invotory after that, it needs to be more clear.

Yeah, that would be the case. I will change. 92.28.179.108 23:59, January 4, 2014 (UTC)
Actually, it says right at the start "If the player has bought Omnislash and W-Summon". 92.28.179.108 00:01, January 5, 2014 (UTC)

I'm 99,9% sure you get the Sprint Shoes from the woman outside the Battle Arena when defeating all enemies in the normal 8 rounds, no need for the special battles. The site for "Hermes Sandals" even says so. Don't know how to edit.

Article says this:

A woman standing next to the long stairs can be found here on the player's return. After talking to her, if one chooses "That's the idea", and wins a round of eight consecutive battles in Battle Square, she'll give the Sprint Shoes item and will stay there. If one chooses "Not interested", even after winning eight consecutive battles, she'll disappear, and the player won't get the accessory.

{{{2}}}

Seems correct to me. Later on it says she also gives it for the special battle. Does this mean she gives it twice or you only get it for the special battle if you never won battle arena before (is that even possible)?Keltainentoukokuu (talk) 17:06, October 8, 2018 (UTC)
The Sprint Shoes are earned once. Speaking to her (she appears only after being jailed), selecting "That's the idea", then beating the eighth round (i.e. if you've already beat the eighth round prior to selecting that option it doesn't count), then speaking to her again are the prerequisites for getting the Sprint Shoes. Beating either the Special Match or the regular match should count, but it's not specifically rewarded for beating the Special Match. JBed (talk) 18:06, October 8, 2018 (UTC)
