Name? Edit

This name reverting thing has gone on long enough. I for one would like a definite answer. Is it Basch von Ronsenberg or Basch fon Ronsenberg? And no second-hand information or "I seem to recall...", I want a friggin' image! Hell, you could be looking at it while writing your response, it still won't do. Image, baby, image. I know for a fact that Vaan says it when he goes around shouting "I'm Basch ?on Ronseberg!" in... that flying city... yeah. Anyways, turn on the subs and snap a picture of him saying it. --Hecko X 18:58, 20 December 2006 (UTC)

No person who ever existed has been called FON something. Except Fonzie. --Auron Kaizer 21:39, 20 December 2006 (UTC)
I'm gonna let you in on a little secret... *looks around*... Basch doesn't really exist, shhhhh :P No, seriously, you never know how creative the translators have been, I mean, just look at Balthier. --Hecko X 22:03, 20 December 2006 (UTC)
Wasn't he supposed to be called Balflear? --Auron Kaizer 22:05, 20 December 2006 (UTC)
Aw HELL YEAH!! Thank you for the image Blue. --Hecko X 19:34, 14 April 2007 (UTC)
Not a problem :D — Bluerダヨ 19:42, 14 April 2007 (UTC)

I'm pretty sure, in the German version it's 'von' Ronsenburg... but maybe the German translaters (who are the manifestation of incompetence, by the way) just translated fon to von... because this "von" is a typical German nobles suffix of a surname, but in the meanwhile even some "not-so-noble" peolpe also are called "Something von Something". --Haitani 14:18, 24 May 2007 (UTC)

Like Adolf Von Hitler? --Auron Kaizer 14:40, 24 May 2007 (UTC)
Touche, AK lol! --SmegHead 15:17, 24 May 2007 (UTC)
Hitler wasn't noble. :P --Haitani 12:58, 7 October 2007 (UTC)

This is a big mistake. It's Von and Rosenberg not Ronsenburg Romangelo 06:44, July 3, 2010 (UTC)

Basch's Dominance Edit

Jorge 19:36, 29 October 2007 (UTC) I think that Basch is the strongest physical in the game. I also think that he had the best background and a great personality. I was saddened by the lack of time he got in the games over all arc, and he had the least dialoge of all the characters. Your thoughts?

I agree that Basch didn't get enough screen time in FFXII. Furthermore, I think he should have been the main character rather than Vaan. He had a much better backstory and his strong convictions (as well as his great voice actor) made him such a GREAT hero. Plus he looks utterly uber-cool wielding the tournesol and hacking monsters to pieces! Suffice to say, he's my second favorite FF character next to Cecil. :) -- 09:04, 30 October 2007 (UTC) ( )

I thoroughly agree. Basch was, in fact, originally intended to be the main character as per Yasumi Matsuno's designs, but we all know why Vaan was shoehorned into the plot (target demographic issues). In fact, you can tell that the dev team really didn't want Vaan in their game, with lines constantly directed at Vaan and Penelo such as "Why are you even here anyway?" by the other characters throughout the game. Sadly, FFXII reflects quite a bit of the internal turmoil in Square at the time, which is also why the game's story and characters feel so shallow IMO. It's a shame, because the story concept was great. 07:19, October 18, 2012 (UTC)

Rock?...The Voice of Basch!?Edit

Some Color Mage / Talk Contribs / Let's Stream Random PS4 Crap. / No time. I don't really care.
The guy who added that is a confirmed vandal. It must not have been noticed. I just got rid of it.

Grammar and flow Edit

I am trying to edit parts of the article for grammar mistakes and to clear up the flow of the information. It has too many abrupt stops.

Every time I change it though someone restores the old version.

I reverted you (assuming you are because you deleted a large amount of text without reason. If you want to fix the grammar, please do so without deleting the info. Additionally, sign your comments with four tides (~~~~). ScatheMote 18:25, 26 June 2009 (UTC)

Yes that was me, I will clean it up when i have the time again. Wyarbrough 18:35, 26 June 2009 (UTC)

One thing that has been pissing me off Edit

TenzaZangetsu 17,957 27 June 2009 (UTC)  -   "Those who do not understand true pain can never understand true peace.":
The article say that Basch was inteded to be the main character but he was change at last, my question: Why? I mean, I played the whole game and he seems to be the most important charracter in the story, besides Ashe, the fact that he was considered a traitor and his personality always remind me to Ramza's story, another hero of the series and then why he is not the main character?.

Whatever, it's obvious I can't find a decent answer from you guys because that's something a member of Square will know.

That's the stupiest thing I ever heard. And of course, is thanks to Square.

I guess you have a point, look at the animes, pretty much every anime hero is a a little bit feminine, like Kenshin Himura from Rurouni Kenshin, but his case was just his face. I played Vagrant Story when I was a kid, I don't remember anything of the game except the FFT references.
TenzaZangetsu 17,957 27 June 2009 (UTC)  -   "It is because of your heart that you will die.":
Just in the main characters. There are characters who are manly enough to break that rule (Kain, Bartz, Locke, Steiner in a funny way, Auron and of course, Basch).

Basch and Rosencrantz Edit

I've noticed that Basch's outfit that he jacks from that dead guy in Barheim looks similar to the outfit Rosencrantz from Vagrant story wears, though only from behind. Checkit

Basch's Age. Edit

If Basch was born in 670, and 678 is 22 years before the events of the game, he would only be 30 when FFXII starts. He would also be 8 when he left - on his own - to become a Dalmascan soldier. Is there any source for this, or should we do the math and move his birthdate back to where it belongs? 08:29, November 4, 2010 (UTC)

Apparently the correct year is 687, not 678. BLUER一番 11:27, November 4, 2010 (UTC)

Originally planned protagonist? Edit

I was reading the source interview and I didn't find the part that Basch was originally the lead character. Just that the protagonist (IE Vaan) was initially written as rugged, big and tough before considering the demographic and role of the character and reworking him. Has this Basch being the original lead been an overblown rumor the entire time? Lycropath (talk) 10:37, January 29, 2013 (UTC)

It's correct Basch hasn't been identified as "the original protagonist" but it looks he is based on the character who was planned as the original lead. Look at the early concept art for FFXII to see a "Basch prototype" character.Keltainentoukokuu (talk) 20:28, January 29, 2013 (UTC)
But Vaan was the first character drawn for the game (as by stated by Yoshida himself), that just an early design of Basch that did not materialize. Vaan being initially written as a more rugged character originally doesn't mean that he was Basch. So I propose we remove that assumption from the wiki. Lycropath (talk) 23:17, January 29, 2013 (UTC)
Vaan was the first character who actually appears in FFXII to have been drawn. The "prototype main character" you see in early artwork was scrapped but appears Basch is based on him.Keltainentoukokuu (talk) 23:23, January 29, 2013 (UTC)
That's a very big assumption your making, and not at all how the grapevine of design works either. That is just an early design for Basch much like Squall was initially drawn by Tetsuya Nomura with long hair and a more effeminate face or Lightning originally being intended to be blond, this is a wiki so you can't really put assumptions especially ones as broad as this as fact. Lycropath (talk) 23:46, January 29, 2013 (UTC)
Well without a response I suppose that it is time to remove the rumor. Lycropath (talk) 22:06, February 2, 2013 (UTC)

Basch's scar Edit

Does it go all the way down his left ear? or it was just a (rather big) coincidence, since in the manga I only see blood coming out of his face when it was cut (don't know if that is canon) and already had the ear scar before confronting Gabranth? just wondering since it is not covered in the main article (even if is not much of a big deal). they DO look aligned.
