A user talked about Reno being on the church, so I looked on the internet for the ghost and did see him. But when the player ran up to Aeris I thought "I don't remember seeing that". I also recall SN (I think) saying you can see her on disk 1, yet I then found someone say that the event is triggered after defeating Jenova LIFE. So there are two events. Or one event, and lots of glitches.
Aeris is definitely intended to appear here. She can only appear after she dies (even though you can't see her until later, if you could somehow go to the church now at that point, she will be there). The are is glitched in that all characters who have served a purpose in that room appear while the location is loading, and then they are all moved to their rightful positions, or removed if they are not meant to be there. This is why Reno appears, and also why the "glitch Aeris" appears. She isn't meant to be there, she is just loaded. We can assume the Shinra soldiers are behind Reno but offscreen.
The reason the glitch Aeris and intended Aeris never appear at the same time is because intended Aeris is Aeris and therefore two do not appear at the same time. When the location loads Aeris, they load the one tending the flowers, and therefore no accidental glitched Aeris can appear since she is already spoken for.
The boy, the girl, and glitched Aeris in the centre of the room are just glitches. Their positions don't load properly.
And the Innkeeper in Nibelheim? I imagine it wasn't intended. Something to do with their dialogue sharing the same data as the kids in the church.
I originally just kept adding to the Trivia on the Aeris article but as I realised the point was getting longer and was disregarding more information, this was worth making its own article.
In summary, the ghost you see tending to the flowers is not a glitch, it is intended to be there. Sector 5 slums church just has a whole load of glitches. JBed 15:13, December 30, 2011 (UTC)
- It's been said you can see "Aeris's ghost" if you go to the church after she has been kidnapped to the Shinra Building, but maybe this sighting is just the "glitch Aeris"? (Should the "glitch Aeris" appear if you go there before she has been kidnapped though, such as before going to Wall Market?) I've never been able to trigger any ghost, maybe I've just talked to people in Kalm too much...Keltainentoukokuu 17:12, December 30, 2011 (UTC)
- Yeah, claims of sightings of Aeris's ghost on disc 1 are almost definitely the glitch Aeris. I don't know what happens after the Aeris sighting and you go back in. Since the glitch Aeris appears too briefly and there's only one YouTube video showing it (and I swear the only thing I see in the middle is the girl, not Aeris). I also don't know what happens when you enter the church at other times.
- Most of the information comes from the external links I put on the page. Info comes from BrutalAI and another guy, so you know it's genuine. JBed 18:14, December 30, 2011 (UTC)

Video[]
I put together a video here. I still have all the footage if we want to create a wiki-friendly version without all the text and only showing relevant things.
I'm tempted to move all the glitched events stuff to a section in Sector 5 slums church, and leave only information related to the Aeris's ghost event here (including the deleted NPC and a link to the glitched events). 79.69.192.95 22:23, August 23, 2012 (UTC)
V[3/18][]
I'm just writing this stuff here for future reference, and to analyse the scenario involving the Kalm flashback. Variable 3/18 is used in both places. Now there are eight bits in this variable-byte. So I just make a table of what turns them on in either case.
| Church | Flashback | |
|---|---|---|
| 0 | After Sephiroth says you may visit family and friends. | |
| 1 | Talk to Sephiroth once, then again and select the rest option. | |
| 2 | Day after. After cameraman takes photo. | |
| 3 | As the party heads to Mt. Nibel. | |
| 4 | When going into the mansion after the Reactor events. | |
| 5 | Talk to Sephiroth once. | |
| 6 | Re-visit the church and trigger the event where the girl and the boy asks to look after the flowers. | Talk to the innkeeper before heading to Mt. Nibel. |
| 7 | Move past the line that deactivates the ghost. | Before the player has headed to Mt. Nibel, the player must have talked to the innkeeper once, then they must ask him about the town. |
In reality, all that matters is bit6 and bit7.
- Returning to the church after Aeris is stolen and talking to the kids means the innkeeper in Nibelheim won't say his "It must've been two years" line, and will instead give you the three-options straight away.
- Asking the innkeeper about the town means Aeris's ghost will never appear.

Aeris or Aerith?[]
If there are articles on this site called Aerith Gainsborough, Aerith's death and Aerith's Clothes why is this one called Aeris's ghost? That is inconsistent, plus the funny thing is, it's supposed to be Aeris' ghost since her name ends with an "s" for the original English translation. The article's name is grammatically incorrect Dragon Scholar (talk) 05:05, 4 March 2024 (UTC)
- This is an article about a glitch in the original FFVII, so it's using the gameplay terminology. Of those other three, the first two are articles that use story terminology (and thus any usage of Aeris was superseded once Remake came out), and the third isn't relevant as it's an Exvius thing and so never had to put up with this s/th nonsense in the first place.
- As for the trailing s, it's a singular noun, so that's a matter of whatever style guide is being used. I don't know which one we're using for that, if any. -- Some Color Mage ~ (Talk) 05:43, 4 March 2024 (UTC)
