Talcott Hester is a non-player character in Final Fantasy XV. He is the grandson of Jared Hester, the Amicitia family chamberlain. He looks up to Iris Amicitia as a sisterly figure, and idolizes Prince Noctis. He wants to one day become just like his wise grandfather.

Dossiers[]

Grandson of Jared Hester, retainer of House Amicitia. Gladiolus and Iris view him as something of a little brother, doting on him and watching him grow over the years. With Monica and Dustin's assistance, he fled the Crown City in the wake of the imperial assault. Now he spends his days in Lestallum, trying to find some way he can support his idol, Prince Noctis.
Talcott's heart is broken by the tragic death of his grandfather. Yet time heals all wounds and before long he is once again working hard to make himself useful to the prince. A paragon of decorum, Jared instilled within the young Talcott a staunch stoicism far beyond his years. Only when the topic of conversation turns to his favorite colorful cactuar statuettes does Talcott truly act his age.

Story[]

Talcott-and-Jared-Hester-FFXV

Talcott and Jared.

When Niflheim attacked Insomnia, the Amicitia family chamberlain, Jared Hester, took Iris Amicitia and his grandson Talcott away from the city. They fled to Lestallum where they stay at the Leville hotel. Prince Noctis and his retinue come visit them, and Talcott is excited to meet him. Noctis is on a quest to collect the legendary weapons of his forebears and Talcott is happy to regale the legend of a royal arm being hidden in a cave behind a waterfall nearby. When Noctis begins to suffer from sudden bouts of headaches, Talcott is worried for him.

While Noctis is away, an imperial officer approaches Talcott asking where he was from and what he was doing in Lestallum. Talcott was oblivious of the danger, and his answers led to the imperial soldiers questioning Jared, who was killed when he refused to co-operate.[3] Talcott is traumatized by the event, and Iris becomes his caretaker. Talcott resolves to serve Noctis for the greater good. Iris decides they can't stay in town and they make their way to the rural seaside outpost of Cape Caem where they make home in an abandoned house. Monica Elshett, a Crownsguard member, accompanies Talcott to the hideaway alongside Dustin Ackers, and remains there to protect him and Iris. According to Talcott, Monica regularly trains him to "fight like a Crownsguard".

Talcott is happy to help Noctis when he visits them, saying his grandfather knew many things, and the mythril Noctis is seeking could be found somewhere near the Vesperpool. He reveals his passion for Cactuars, and Noctis has a chance to give him the statuettes he's found during his travels. Talcott joins the others in bidding Noctis goodbye, asking him to return soon as Lucis needs its king. Talcott and Iris later listen to a broadcast of Lunafreya's speech together. During Cid's stay at Caem, he acts kindly to the boy, helping fill the void left by Jared's passing. Cid gifts Talcott a Hammerhead hat, which Talcott keeps as a memento.

Darkness overtakes the world after Noctis departs Lucis. Talcott seeks asylum in Lestallum and carries Jared's notebook as a keepsake, recording in it his correspondence with Dino Ghiranze to pass information to the Glaives and Hunters. He becomes popular with the Hunters as the "Tiny-Tipster" due to his knowledge of the world. Talcott goes on to become a hunter himself, receiving training from Noctis's retinue of Gladiolus Amicitia, Ignis Scientia and Prompto Argentum, becoming especially friendly with the latter.[2] Talcott initially feared fighting, but was familiar with the fundamentals of it from his grandfather.[2] Talcott joins Ignis in exploring ancient ruins to learn more about their situation regarding Ardyn Izunia and the ruined world.[3]

FINAL FANTASY XV Adult Talcott

Talcott meets Noctis as an adult.

Talcott is the first person Noctis meets after leaving Angelgard and escaping the abandoned Galdin Quay. Ten years have passed and Talcott is now an adolescent, so Noctis doesn't recognize him at first. Talcott gives Noctis a ride to Hammerhead in his truck, and fills Noctis in on events of the previous decade. Talcott's truck has a number of cactuar figurines on the dashboard, the mementos Noctis had previously given him. At Hammerhead, Talcott confesses that it was his childish naivety that inadvertently led to Jared's death. Talcott grew up blaming himself, but Noctis assures him that it wasn't his fault.[3]
