An autonomous antipersonnel weapon manufactured by Shinra's Advanced Weaponry Division. It remains in sleep mode until it detects intruders, at which point it enters threat-elimination mode.
Enemy Intel
The Sweeper is a mechanical enemy in Final Fantasy VII Remake and "Episode INTERmission". The downloadable demo included this enemy.
It is first fought at Mako Reactor 1 in Chapter 1, "The Destruction of Mako Reactor 1", and later at the Upper Sector 7 warehouse in Chapter 4, "Mad Dash", and Mako Reactor 5 in Chapter 7, "A Trap Is Sprung". It also appears at the Corneo Colosseum vs. Shinra Thugs round.
In "Episode INTERmission", the Sweeper is a missable enemy as it appears in segment preceding the boss battle against The Crimson Mare where the player chooses their path through the testing facility.
Sweeper (Ranged) is also a grounded unit that can't attack flying opponents in the Fort Condor minigame in "Episode INTERmission". It is found in a chest during "Tracking Zhijie" quest.

Battle[]
The Sweeper's main way of attack is rapid-firing against their target, which can be blocked to mitigate damage. It may also use Fire Blast, spraying fire from both arms, which is often used if the player is attacking from the front. The Sweeper can also employ a few melee attacks: Hard Charger, where it charges in one direction and deals heavy physical damage and knocks characters out if they're not blocking; and Stomp to jump in the air and crush party members under its feet.
When pressured, its upper body will lay flat on the ground for a few seconds. Like almost all mechanical enemies, the Sweeper is weak to Lightning.
Strategy[]
The player should continuously attack, ideally from behind the Sweeper, mixing in a magic spell when one ATB charge is available to deal enough damage to pressure it. Casting Thunder will instantly put the Sweeper in a pressured state for a few seconds, allowing the player to capitalize with Focused-type abilities to quickly stagger it. Cloud can quickly build ATB while in Punisher Mode, and use Focused Thrust to build stagger when the Sweeper is pressured. When staggered, the player should use Braver and Thunder and Barret's character abilities. When the Sweeper binds someone under its foot, the player should switch characters and continue attacking, as dealing enough damage will make the Sweeper release its victim.
When fought in Mako Reactor 5, the player can also imbue a character with Lightning Materia and Elemental Materia in their weapon to pressure the Sweepers, and lay into them with Tifa's Unbridled Strength martial techniques.
Hard mode[]
On the hard difficulty, the Sweeper will use Hard Charger more often and will turn around faster when the player attacks from behind. Pairing non-active characters with Lightning and Synergy Materia can quickly pressure the Sweeper while maintaining the offensive. Steadfast Block Materia also helps to mitigate the damage from its machine-gun attacks.
Episode INTERmission[]
Sweepers are easily taken down with Yuffie by imbuing her weapon with Lightning Ninjutsu and using Thunderous Banishment, as well Throw for continuous damage. Synergizing with Sonon has him attack Yuffie's target with the same damage type she is using. Synergy paired with Lightning on Sonon is especially potent.
