Summon magical beasts for aid.

Description

Summon is a skillset learned by the Summoner that calls a summoned monster into battle. By leveling up the Summoner, the ability can call forth increasingly powerful creatures when assigned to another job. When a party member's job is Summoner, they can summon all the summoned monsters regardless of level. It is disabled if the user is silenced.

Obtained[]

Summon is equipped to all Summoners by default. After leveling up the Summoner job, a character can have the Summon ability equipped on any other job and use any summon whose associated level has been attained by the Summoner. Therefore, to be able to use all summons as a non-Summoner, a character must level their Summoner job up to level 5. Summon is the primary ability for Summoners, who can use all summons without the need to attain a summon's associated level first.

The Summon ability requires 15 AP for level 1, 30 for level 2, 45 for level 3, 60 for level 4 and 100 for level 5. For an additional 500 AP, the Summoner can learn "Call", another summon ability that performs a random summon for 0 MP.

Mechanics[]

The summons' effects vary, but most of them deal elemental damage to opponents. The elemental attacks can thus be boosted with equipment that has an elemental affinity. The main difference between summon spells and Black Magic spells is that there is no split damage property; while Black and White spells have their power factors halved when using a single-target/multi-target modular spell to affect multiple targets, summon spells hit all targets for their full power. This makes summons more useful against multi-target bosses or groups of enemies, particularly summons of similar level and MP cost to Black Magic spells.

The Level 1 summons are bought from a shop in Walse. Many must be obtained by defeating the summoned monster in battle; some are random encounters and some are bosses in dungeons. Some are obtained by finding the scene that gives the party the summon.

The Summoner's Call ability lets the user summon any of the obtained monsters without MP cost. It is possible to skip early summons in order to increase the odds of later, more powerful summons occurring as a result.

Any job equipped with Summon Level 1 will gain their character's base Freelancer Magic +17 if their default stat is lower. For each additional Summon level up to level 5, the Magic bonus is increased by 4 per level, for a maximum of +33 Magic at Summon Level 5. Upon mastery, Freelancers and Mimes gain the Summoner's base Magic unless they already have a higher base from another mastered job.
