Straw Hat (ストローハット, Sutorōhatto? or むぎわら帽子, Mugiwara Bōshi?) is a recurring helmet in the series.
Appearances
Final Fantasy IX
Straw Hat is the weakest hat, providing no bonuses in any stats and is meant as an in-game joke item. It can be obtained by using a Dead Pepper at the foam located north of Alexandria while riding Choco. It can be equipped by everyone.
Final Fantasy XI
Straw Hat is head armor that provides 1 DEF and Light Resistance +3. It can be equipped by all jobs at level 1. It can be obtained from the "Titillating Tomes" quest. There are two separate versions of this item: Male and Female. They are identical in every way, but cannot be equipped by the opposite sex.

Etymology
A straw hat is a brimmed hat that is woven out of straw or straw-like materials from different plants or synthetics. The hat is designed to protect the head from the sun and against heatstroke, but straw hats are also used in fashion as a decorative element or a uniform.
