Stop is a magic spell in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. It is the third spell provided by Time Materia, and inflicts the Stop, which freezes a target for its duration. This can also prolong a staggered target's state, thus increasing the length of time it can receive bonus damage.

Stop costs 14 MP to cast, and can be cast by party members with a level 3 time materia. It is therefore a fairly expensive but extremely effective spell. The spell locks an enemy in place, removing it as a threat for its duration, as well as making them vulnerable to attacks. Stop can be used to buy the player time in a tricky situation, or to make a more mobile enemy easy to target.
One of the great benefits of the Stop spell is how it interacts with stagger. Casting Stop on an enemy will not prevent their stagger gauge from filling, but when an enemy is staggered, it will freeze the length of time they are staggered for. This can allow the party to take advantage of an enemy's vulnerable staggered state for longer. Doing so makes it easier to help one cast level 3 spells with a longer cast time, to take advantage of Tifa's ability to boost bonus stagger damage by allowing her to boost bonus damage further, or make use of Cloud's Infinity's End more often.
Many bosses and high-level enemies are not actually immune to Stop. It is therefore important to check if an enemy has immunity to the spell, and if they do not, using it against them can be very effective.
Stop can be further improved by pairing time materia with Magnify Materia, which allows Stop to be cast on all enemies at once. As magnify materia is also a great pair with time materia for its other two spells, this can be a very powerful setup. Time materia can also be paired with Magic Focus Materia to increase the length of Stop's duration, though there are often better uses for this materia.
