The character is frozen in time and cannot move or act. Remove with a Chronos Tear.

Description

Stop is a status in Final Fantasy XII. The unit and their ATB gauge freeze, unable to take action or move until the status wears off or is healed. Stop is removed with Dispel rather than with Esuna.

Stop can be used to render enemies vulnerable to damage, and e.g. prevent Mom Bombs from setting off their chain reaction.

Mechanics[]

Ticking status effects halt their progress during Stop. For example, Sap will stop draining HP for the duration of Stop, and its duration will be paused until Stop has run its course. This can be abused by casting Reverse followed by Stop, allowing the character to absorb all forms of damage until Stop wears off. This is especially useful for bosses who always target the nearest character, as equipping the other party members with ranged weapons will keep them alive while the Reversed character is taking all the hits. A stopped character is immune to Decoy, so a stopped character with Reverse cannot be decoyed.

The formula for the duration of Stop is:

During screen transitions, stopped party members appear at the beginning of the area and remain there, frozen. A stopped character can be used to trigger the Immobilize glitch.

Abilities[]

Spell Stop (Time Magicks)
Weapon Judicer's Staff 15%, Stun Bombs 25%

Stop spell can be made to always succeed on enemies that are susceptible by wearing the Indigo Pendant.

The status can also be inflicted with the items that heal the status when Nihopalaoa is equipped.

The ally-targeting gambit specifically for this status is called "Ally: status = Stop". The enemy-targeting gambit is "Foe: status = Stop"In the original version, the ally gambit can be bought for 50 gil at gambit shops after obtaining the Dawn Shard, and the foe gambit can be bought after the events at Draklor Laboratory. In the Zodiac versions, both gambits can be purchased for 70 gil after leaving Nalbina Dungeons.
