Final Fantasy Wiki

The Stone Shot is ammunition for guns in Final Fantasy XII. Guns cannot be equipped without owning some kind of shot. Owning the Stone Shot means the player can use an unlimited amount, and shots do not need a license to be equipped alongside a gun. Stone Shot has a chance of petrifying a susceptible target, defeating them after a countdown.

Obtain[]

Original[]

The Stone Shot is not bought from shops. It is found in Cerobi Steppe's South Liavell Hills Map 04 Cerobi Steppe. The player can come to the steppe early from the Tchita Uplands via a chocobo.

The shot is also made in the bazaar set "Stone Shot" for 15,000 gil. It is made by selling two Mirror Scales and Tyrant Bones, as well as three Libra Gems.

Mirror Scales are obtained from Mirrorknights in the further part of Feywood beyond the Mist blockade that is dispelled as part of the story. Tyrant Bones are obtained from Wild Saurians that appear on the Dalmasca Estersand in the Stepping and the areas north of the Nebra River. The one on the north of the river is always aggressive, whereas the southern version starts out as docile. Libra Gems are obtained from various enemies, such as from many wolf and leopard type foes, including the Silver Lobo on the Phon Coast and the Tartarus in Feywood.

Zodiac[]

The Stone Shot is not sold in shops but sells for 8,000 gil.

The shot is found as a treasure in Cerobi Steppe's Terraced Bank (20% chance to appear, 50% chance for an item, 5% chance the item treasure is the Stone Shot with the Diamond Armlet equipped).

The shot is still made in the "Stone Shot" bazaar set for the same items as before but for a much cheaper price at 1,480 gil.

Use[]

The Stone Shot adds 3 points to the gun's power, less than the Windslicer Shot and Dark Shot, but rather than being elemental, the Stone Shot has a 25% flat chance of inflicting a target with Petrify, which gradually turns them into stone, defeating them without affecting the chain. The player can control the gun-wielder manually and switch targets after the status affliction takes effect.

As equipment can be swapped on-the-fly, the player could also use the Stone Shot until the ailment sticks, and then swap to a more powerful shot. The shot's downside is that it is weaker than some other shots the player can get whereas the ailment it holds is not all that useful: for breaking enemies, the player is best off using Break with the Indigo Pendant equipped; this is useful for the flan grinding in the Henne Mines and when spawning the Lv.99 Red Chocobo, whereas the Stone Shot is merely situationally useful if the ailment happens to stick in an opportune moment. The Petrify effect can even be a detriment and lead to the enemy being defeated slower than without, as the countdown makes the target increasingly durable against physical damage. The gun-user is likely better off using their elemental shots, which can exploit weather conditions and enemy weaknesses.

The shot is only useful to procure in the Zodiac versions if the player is using a Machinist or a Shikari with the Shemhazai license.
