Accept the Fury into your heart, and defend this bridge with your life's blood!

Lucia the Radiant leading the defense of the Steps of Faith

The Steps of Faith is a Trial from Final Fantasy XIV, taking place in the Coerthas Central Highlands during the defense of Ishgard. Unlike most Trials, the Steps of Faith consists of a long bridge which the enemy slowly advances across, breaking down three boundaries along the way. If the boss, Vishap, breaks through the final boundary, the defenses of Ishgard are breached, leading to a non-standard Game Over.

Story

Normal

The Steps of Faith─the sole means of approaching the city of Ishgard. As well as providing passage across the Sea of Clouds, this great stone bridge also serves to anchor the series of arcane wards known as Daniffen's Collar. Long has the Holy See relied upon these barriers to shield the city from Dravanian assault, but it did not reckon upon the brazen actions of Lady Iceheart. The outermost layer of protection has been dispelled, allowing the mighty dragon Vishap to land upon the far end of the Steps of Faith. Leading an army of lesser kin, the massive creature is intent on destroying the exposed foundations of the remaining wards. Take up position alongside the Temple Knights, and defend the structure from the ravaging forces of the Horde!

Objectives

  1. To the Arc of the Worthy: 0/100
  2. Defeat Vishap: 0/1

As Vishap and his army advance, the 0/100 counter increases. At 100/100, he destroys the last defenses of Ishgard.

Progression

This fight is unlike many other Trials in Final Fantasy XIV, this one is a race against time as Vishap slowly moves across the bridge and you must follow and attack him. If you happen to die during this trial just Return and keep fighting.

Once the fight begins Vishap will ignore the players and only deal damage to Bertha's and the wards blocking his path. On his way to each ward he is escorted by dravanians that will attack the party, or Ishgardian NPC's. Near the wards are two berthas, any player can use these to damage vishap and nearby dragons. When the boss is in range he will use Sidewise slice to get rid of the berthas, make sure to get off these before this happens as the attack can do massive damage or one shot you. Next he will use Body slam to get rid of the ward.

Continuing the previous set of mechanics, and once in range Lucia will tell the party to take control of a dragonkiller, this will deal massive damage to Vishap. With another ward broken, He summons Biasts to destroy the berthas, so take these out before they get to them. Once he gets to the final ward he charges up Landwaster, a large square AoE in front of him, during this you can use another dragonkiller, but he will instead dodge this one. In this part of the fight there are powder kegs to further deal damage to Vishap, but the biasts will target these so be ready to defeat them.
