Klauser Family

Stella, Dorgann and Bartz in their house in the town of Lix.

Stella died of what seemed to be a chronic illness causes prior to the beginning of the game's storyline. A flashback of her death is shown if the player goes to Bartz's old house and activates the music box on the table near the window. She speaks of her "spasms" becoming less frequent, although she still wishes Dorgann to remain at home so that the three of them can live as a family for a while. Dorgann intended to leave on another adventure despite this, but before he could, Stella suddenly collapsed and died in their home.

Early in the game, an illusion of her is used by Siren in order to steal Bartz's soul. She is unsuccessful in doing so thanks to Galuf forcing Bartz to come to his senses.

Etymology

Stella is Latin and Italian for "star". Klauser is a German family name derived from the medieval given name Klaus, short for Niklaus or Nicholaus, which means "people's victory".

Trivia

  • Dorgann exclaiming "STELLA!!!" upon her death is a reference Marlon Brando's line from the movie A Streetcar Named Desire.
  • In the GBA/PSP/iOS remakes of the original Final Fantasy, Stella is one of the automatic names the player can choose for the Black Mage Job.
