The Steel Giant is a Soul of Rebirth boss in Final Fantasy II. It is found inside a chest holding the Ribbon. It is also a very rare random encounter on the 7th floor of the Unknown Palace. This enemy is similar to the Iron Giant of the main story but has extremely high defenses.
Though bearing superficial similarity to the recurring Red Giant enemy, the series's recurring Red Giant is actually unified as the "Wolframiter" in Japanese localizations, first appearing in Final Fantasy VII.

Strategy[]
The player’s best bet is to attack with magic. Steel Giant has a weakness to lightning, so characters with Thunder above level 4 can act as the damage dealers. Alternatively, the player can use Thunder Spears (dropped by Lamia Matriarchs) to cast Thunder XVI without having to level the Thunder spell itself. The other party members should be the healers of the party. Steel Giant can inflict a very high amount of damage with its physical attacks, so Blink and Protect are imperative for mitigating the damage. It can also use Starfall X to deal moderate damage to everyone.
The Steel Giant can drop the most powerful heavy armors in the game, the Genji equipment and Aegis Shield. It is also the only source of Excalibur, the strongest generic sword in Soul of Rebirth. However, given its rarity as an encounter, and that none of its item drops are guaranteed, farming these items can take a long time.
Etymology[]
Giant is the English word, coined 1297, commonly used for such beings, derived from one of the most famed examples: the gigantes of Greek mythology.
The mythology and legends of many different cultures include monsters of human appearance but prodigious size and strength.
