Heavens!

The Emperor using Starfall in Dissidia Final Fantasy

Starfall (いんせき, Inseki?, lit. Meteorite) is a recurring ability in the Final Fantasy series, and is mostly known for being the signature attack of Emperor Mateus from Final Fantasy II.

Appearances[]

Final Fantasy II[]

Starfall is non-elemental damage enemy ability. It has a spell power of 70, accuracy bonus of +100% and hits the entire party. It is only cast at two levels.

Starfall X is used by the final boss Emperor in Pandaemonium and the Steel Giant in the Soul of Rebirth's Unknown Palace. It deals 175~700 damage to each party member, depending on their magic defense.

Starfall XVI is used by the final boss of Soul of Rebirth, the Light Emperor, as well as the superboss Deumion from the Arcane Sanctuary. Starfall XVI deals 280~1120 damage to each party member, depending on their magic defense.

Final Fantasy V[]

Starfall is one of the predictions available via the Oracle's ability Predict. It deals damage to everyone in the battle and may cause Instant KO.

Final Fantasy XIV[]

The power of darkness is mine to command. Even the stars must obey my will.

Xande

Starfall is a variant of Meteor used by Emperor Xande in the last battle of the Syrcus Tower raid. As he charges the attack from his throne, a Starfall Center and satellite Stonefall Centers guides several meteors down and must be destroyed to disrupt the spell. The stonefall comets will inflict 2,000 damage to every player if allowed to land, while the Starfall meteor will inflict around 30,000 damage to everyone on the field (and thus guaranteed K.O.).

Dissidia Final Fantasy (2008)[]

Starfall is a ground and aerial HP attack for the Emperor. When performed, the Emperor summons glyphs and charges for a long period of time to summon an unblockable barrage of fireballs from above, followed by the descent of a large meteorite. The Emperor learns the ground version of Starfall at level 20 and the aerial version at level 38. It costs 40 CP to equip and 300 AP to master. When using the attack, he declares "Heavens!", implying that the attack came straight from the heavenly bodies.

Dissidia 012 Final Fantasy[]

Heavens, fall!

Emperor charging Starfall

Starfall is an HP attack for the Emperor in ground and aerial versions, and has the Magic Block ability, deflecting minor magic projectiles while the Emperor charges the attack. It costs 30 CP to equip and 130 AP to master.

Starfall is the only attack that can interrupt other ones, including Squall's Revolver Drive. While fighting Chaos as the Emperor, this ability is very useful because it will block every single hit of Scarlet Rain except for the last blow. If he summons the giant meteorite at the same time Chaos throws fireballs, it is likely to lead to a double K.O. since the Emperor will receive the final blow at the time the meteorite crushes Chaos to the ground.

Final Fantasy Brave Exvius[]

Starfall is an ability learned by Emperor at level 100 (6★). It costs 50 MP to use and deals 1 hit of magic damage with a modifier of 2.3x that ignores 50% SPR to all enemies. If used after Elixir, it deals 1 hit of magic damage with a modifier of 9.6x that ignores 50% SPR and reduces Fire and Ice resistances by 65% for 5 turns to all enemies.

Starfall XVI is the Limit Burst for Emperor Mateus. When at max rarity and fully powered, it deals 27 hits of Earth-elemental magic damage with a modifier of 410x, reduces Earth resistance by 130% for 3 turns, and reduces SPR by 80% for 3 turns to one enemy. In addition, it increases MAG by 200% and LB damage by 150% which cannot be dispelled for 3 turns to the caster. It uses the Bolting Strike (Walk) chaining family.

Starfall is also an enemy ability.

Stranger of Paradise Final Fantasy Origin[]

Starfall is the translated name used by an Axe skill that inflicts Strike/Earth physical damage and can be charged for greater damage. This ability is known named differently in Japanese (落陽衝, Rakuyōshō, Sunset Impact).

The more traditional version of the spell is an enemy ability used by The Emperor on his From Hell Arisen form, with which he casts a rain of meteorites in a gigantic area. The Emperor will charge the spell which will level it up, eventually becoming Starfall XVI, at which point the spell becomes unblockable. The Emperor is vulnerable while charging the spell, and he must be attacked in order to interrupt it. However, even then the spell is still stored to be cast by the Emperor later.

Etymology[]

Starfall refers to meteorites. A meteorite is a solid piece of debris, from such sources as asteroids or comets, that originates in outer space and survives its impact with the Earth's surface. It is called a meteoroid before its impact.
