Squire (見習い戦士, Minarai Senshi?, lit. Apprentice Warrior) is a recurring job in the Final Fantasy series, first appearing in Final Fantasy Tactics. The base starting class for melee units, but are quite weak compared to most of the other melee jobs.

Squire is the basic physical job, though they lose usefulness after the early parts of the story. Ramza, Delita, and Argath are all Squires. Ramza and Delita, however, learn some abilities that other Squires cannot, and have better base stats, while Argath can use two Knight Rend techniques. Unit's that have a special job replace the Squire in the job menu, meaning that these unit's cannot access it.

Etymology[]
squire was the shield bearer or armor bearer of a knight, and at times squires were a knight's errand runner or servant. Use of the term has evolved over time. In the Middle Ages, squires were trainees to a knight but later a leader in an English village.
A
