Automatically put you in [Haste]

Description

Sprint Shoes is an accessory in Final Fantasy VII that automatically puts the user under constant Haste, making them also immune to Slow. As a downside, all timed effects, like Barrier and Slow-numb run out double the pace. Characters equipped with the shoes never face away from enemies when back-attacked.

Obtained[]

Find Gold Saucer (talk to woman outside Battle Square after winning all 8 rounds of Special Battle)
Prize: Chocobo Square (A and S Rank)
Prize: Chocobo Square (one of the prizes from Ester after winning 10 times in a row on the S-rank class)

A woman standing next to the long stairs outside the Battle Square can be found on the player's return after the events at the Corel Prison in "The Desert Prison". Speaking to her (she appears only after the party was jailed), selecting "That's the idea", and then beating the eighth round at the arena and speaking to her again, earns Sprint Shoes. Beating either the Special Match or the regular match counts. If one chooses "Not interested", even after winning eight consecutive battles, she will disappear, and the player will not get the accessory. She only gives the accessory once.

Use[]

Sprint Shoes is a powerful accessory, allowing the player to get several more turns in battle than usual without having to use any resources. If the player takes the time to do the Chocobo Square, they may be able to get several Sprint Shoes to equip to the entire party, making them exceptionally powerful. In fights where the Ribbon is not needed, the Sprint Shoes can be used instead, such as against Emerald Weapon, or if the player has Vaccines or the Resist spell, they can use these to make up for the lack of status immunities.

Etymology[]

The accessory is called "Hermes Shoes" in Japanese. Hermes is an Olympian deity in ancient Greek mythology. He is the herald of the gods, also considered the protector of human heralds, travellers, thieves, merchants, and orators. He moves quickly and freely between the worlds of the mortal and the divine, aided by his winged sandals, guiding souls into the afterlife.
