The Spring Gun Clip is a weapon for Red XIII in Final Fantasy VII. It is has six linked Materia slots, and has the greatest magical stats of any of Red XIII's weapons. Its stats across the board are second only to his ultimate weapon, the Limited Moon.

Like all Red XIII's weapons, Spring Gun Clip is not rendered or visible in-game, and also cannot be thrown.

Obtained[]

The Spring Gun Clip is found in a treasure chest in the Ancient Forest.

Mechanics[]

As the Spring Gun Clip has a base Attack stat bonus of 87, the base damage for physical attacks when the Behemoth Horn is equipped is in the following formula:

where "Level" is Red XIII's current level and "Strength" is his Strength stat. The Spring Gun Clip also has an Attack% (Accuracy) of 100%, and grants a +55 bonus to Red XIII's Magic stat.

Use[]

The Spring Gun Clip is Red XIII's strongest weapon that has well-rounded stats, below only his ultimate weapon. It also has the highest Magic boost of any of his weapons, though it falls short of his ultimate weapon and the Centclip in terms of number of Materia slots. The Spring Gun Clip is slightly weaker than the Behemoth Horn in terms of physical damage, but still strong for magic damage.

The Spring Gun Clip has six Materia slots, all of which are linked. Due to the high Magic boost provided by the weapon, it should focus entirely on Magic Materia and Summon Materia, preferably paired with Support Materia, with any spare Independent Materia given to his armor. This allows Red XIII to capitalize entirely on spellcasting and can make him one of the most powerful mages of the party.

The Spring Gun Clip remains Red XIII's best weapon in terms of sheer magic damage output, even after the Limited Moon. However, it has two fewer Materia slots than the Limited Moon, and its superior Magic boost over the Limited Moon can be made up for with Magic Plus Materia. Spring Gun Clip is also weaker for Red XIII than the Behemoth Horn in terms of physical damage, though this is not Red XIII's usual role.

Etymology[]

The weapon's Japanese name is "Spriggan Clip". Spriggans are legendary creatures known from Cornish faery lore. They were depicted as grotesquely ugly, and were said to be found at old ruins and barrows guarding buried treasure and generally acting as fairy bodyguards.
