Spirit (スピリット, Supiritto?) is a recurring enemy in the Final Fantasy series. It has the appearance of a ghostly disembodied head.
Appearances[]
Final Fantasy IV[]
Spirit appears in Mt. Hobs and Mount Ordeals. It has a complicated elemental resistance, so one should opt for non-elemental weapon attacks. It is best to avoid these enemies until Cecil becomes a Paladin, at which point they are no threat.
Final Fantasy IV: The After Years[]
Spirits may be encountered in a group with Souls. It follows a strict pattern of Fire > Attack, and will repeat after attacking. It is the weakest of the Spirit-type enemies, and therefore should not be difficult to defeat at all.
Final Fantasy X[]
The Spirit is a fiend found in the Omega Ruins.

Etymology[]
The word spirit derives from Latin spiritus, "breath", has many meanings most relating to a non-corporeal substance contrasted with the material body. The word is often used metaphysically to refer to the consciousness or personality. The notions of a person's spirit and soul may overlap, as both are understood as surviving the bodily death in religion and occultism. "Spirit" can also have the sense of "ghost", i.e. a manifestation of a deceased person. The term may also refer to any incorporeal or immaterial being, such as demons or deities.
