Sphinxara is a Triple Triad card in Final Fantasy VIII used to play the minigame and for turning into items with Quezacotl's Card Mod. Sphinxara is the seventy-second card in the inventory and the sixth Level 7 card. It depicts Sphinxara, a boss fought in the final dungeon to unlock the party's sealed abilities.
Sphinxara has strong values with two 8s, which makes it a good card to place in a corner as NPC card players rarely play cards that can beat an 8 without special rules. Its value placements may also be useful for games that use Same and/or Plus.
Obtain[]
There is a 6.3% chance to get a Sphinxara card when successfully using the Card command on Adamantoise or Creeps.
Any AI Triple Triad player who uses Level 7 cards has a chance of using Sphinxara in a play, from where the player can win it in a card match. One such card player is CC Heart of the Card Club. In the end of the game, all CC members besides Jack and Club will play with Level 7 cards when aboard the Ragnarok if the player completed the CC quest before the point of no return.
Card Mod[]
A Sphinxara card refines into a G-Mega-Potion with Quezacotl's Card Mod ability. It is a healing item for the player's Guardian Forces, healing the whole roster at once. However, GFs gain health over time by simply walking around the field, and thus the player does not necessarily need to heal them. Though not so useful for card modding, Sphinxara is a good card to have for playing the minigame itself.
Physical version[]
In 1999, following the release of Final Fantasy VIII in Japan, Bandai produced a full set of collectible Triple Triad cards in Final Fantasy VIII Carddass Masters Perfect Visuals. The set was made up of the 110 cards as seen in the game along with 72 artwork cards and a collector's edition playing mat. The cards have a blue side and a red side. The cards have become a rare collector's item.
