Orator job command. Manipulates enemies through skilled rhetoric.

Description

Speechcraft (話術, Wajutsu?, lit. Art of Conversation), also known as Talk Skill, is the action ability from Final Fantasy Tactics used by the Orator job. Using Speechcraft, the Orator can either boost the party's morale, or lower the opponent's, as well as apply negative status effects. Speechcraft is one of the few ways to recruit monsters into the player's party, and the only way to recruit enemy humans. Speechcraft is the most convenient way to permanently manipulate a character's Bravery (stat) and Faith.

Speechcraft skills have a low success rate compared to other abilities. They only take into account zodiac compatibility and the user's MA, without regard for PA, Faith, Brave, level, or Support abilities, unlike similar Mystic Arts skills. However, the Beast Tongue ability (which Orators have innately) is required to use Speechcraft on monsters.

The Entice ability can be used to recruit generic enemy units, monster and human alike, in any battle. Though it has an even lower chance than other Speechcraft abilities, a single success is all it takes to "defeat" any enemy, permanently. Recruited enemies can be immediately dismissed at the end of battle, leaving their gear.

The other unique use of Speechcraft is Brave/Faith manipulation. It has abilities to raise or lower both Brave and Faith. Every 4 points of gain or loss in battle will convert to 1 point of gain or loss after battle. (Warning: Having permanent Faith >= 95 or permanent Brave <= 5 will cause any unit other than Ramza to leave the party.)
