Template:Sideicon Template:FFX Enemy The Spectral Keeper is a Spirit-Beast fiend in Final Fantasy X. It is the last boss fought before meeting Yunalesca, and appears after completing the Zanarkand Cloister of Trials.

Battle

The battle is unique as each party member stands on a floating platform, each representing a temple Yuna has visited on her pilgrimage, with the Spectral Keeper in the middle. The party members can teleport to an adjacent platform at any time via Trigger Commands. Any aeon Yuna summons will stand on a rock. The Keeper will sweep his claws and hit anyone standing on the three platforms in front of him. Several times during the battle glyph mines will be placed on two random platforms and will explode on the next turn, causing Instant Death. If an aeon is summoned, glyph mines placed on panels will have no effect when they explode.

The Keeper can strike a random teammate with his tail, inflicting Berserk. The characters are physically separated, and this may be the rationale for the Guard and Sentinel commands being unavailable in this fight. The boss is immune to a great deal of status effects and has equally high Defense and Magic Defense, although it is susceptible to Mental Break.

Spectral Keeper and Sanctuary Keeper both have a dangerous counter attack.

Spectral Keeper's Berserk Tail has only a 50% chance of inflicting Berserk. Due to the way status resistance works in Final Fantasy X, this means that merely having Berserk Ward will give full protection against being berserked by it.

Strategy

It is best not to use aeons unless their Overdrive bars are full, because Spectral Keeper will use a glyph mine on his next turn to defeat the aeon. The party should be spread around Spectral Keeper, leaving one panel either side of each character blank. This serves to help limit Spectral Keeper's ability to damage more than one character at a time as its long arms facilitate it striking three panels at once, and it has a tendency to lay glyph mines close together. Provoke works and can keep damage away from less robust characters; provoking characters should be kept in the line of Spectral Keeper's attacks.

Using Mental Break makes Black Magic or Holy particularly effective. Curing Berserk and applying Protect may be necessary, and Berserk Ward or Proof armor are useful. Characters with high Evasion, such as Lulu, can work well against the Spectral Keeper's low Accuracy. Overdrives, Mixes, or aeons summoned with a full Overdrive or with Yuna's Grand Summon will be useful to weaker parties in getting an Overkill (netting an extra Lv. 4 Key Sphere).
