- Spears have the lowest delays and are equippable by all four jobs listed above.
- Couses have intermediate delays and are equippable by Dragoon, Samurai, and Warrior.
- Lances have the highest delays and are Dragoon only.

Final Fantasy XII[]
By equipping the appropriate license any character can gain access to spears in the original version. In the Zodiac versions, only Uhlan wields spears, and spears can hit flying enemies.
Spears are two-handed weapons, with the strongest, and one of the most coveted weapons, being the Zodiac Spear. Spears' damage is calculated based on the character's strength, the weapon's attack, and the enemy's defense. All spears add 8 to evasion and can knockback enemies. Spears are among the faster weapons with 2.14s charge and 1.2s action time, second only to daggers and ninja swords.
The damage formula for spears is:
Spears use the Strength damage formula. Damage depends on the weapon, the user's Strength and character level. The characters' stats can vary by up to 30%, but Strength varies 10%; Vaan, Balthier, and Basch have the highest strength.

Forward + Attack: Noctis performs a thrusting attack, and at the end of the "thrust" he will do an airstep that can link into a plunging attack depending on positioning.
Side + Attack: Noctis swings the polearm in a wider area instead of stabbing with it.
Back + Attack: Noctis performs a backflip attack that can lead into an air combo. If the player releases the thumbstick before leading into an air combo, Noctis will perform the Full Thrust technique that was seen in Final Fantasy XV Episode Duscae.
If attacking an enemy directly from above with a spear, Noctis can descend upon them like a Dragoon.
