Scenario[edit | edit source]
Princess Garnet and her party of circumstance have escaped Alexandria with the royal pendant, only to be shot down and crash land in Evil Forest. Queen Brahne, mad with newfound power, engages in pursuit to retrieve the heirloom from the fleeing party. Brahne uses possessed vegetation in an attempt to ensnare her daughter, but the party manages to prune the overgrown weeds before their poisonous seeds destroy them from within. Having failed, Brahne next sends the Black Waltzes to capture Garnet, but once again is thwarted by Zidane and Steiner on successive attempts. With no other options, Brahne manages to brainwash her elite general, Beatrix, into gathering the pendant along with three other jewels scattered across Gaia. Meanwhile, Zidane and the others work to head off potential attacks on other kingdoms, passing through Gizamaluke's Grotto en route to Burmecia. They are too late, as Beatrix sacks Burmecia and crushes the party in the process. Garnet, under guard from Steiner, tries to reason with her mother. Each plan ultimately fails, as Zidane and his allies are later ambushed by Beatrix at Cleyra, and Garnet is taken captive back at the castle courtesy of mages Zorn and Thorn, who successfully extract Garnet's latent powers, one of which Brahne then uses to level Cleyra. Zidane and his party barely escape Cleyra and return to Alexandria to rescue Garnet, but are again stalled by Beatrix who, after the battle, is convinced to come to her senses and protect the princess at any cost. Now unlikely allies, Beatrix and the party fight as one to halt Brahne's reign of terror.
