A scope that allows the wearer to lock onto a target. Ensures that physical attacks never miss.
Description
Sniper Eye, also known as Sniper Sight,[1][2] is a relic in Final Fantasy VI. It ensures all physical attacks by the wearer cannot be blocked.
Obtained[]
Sniper Eye can be found on the Phantom Train, or bought for 3,000 gil in Albrook, Jidoor, Narshe, Thamasa, and Tzen (World of Balance and World of Ruin).
Use[]
Sniper Eye is a decent boost for physical fighters. However, in Final Fantasy VI, few of the party's physical fighters use their basic Attack command (for instance, Edgar's physical damage normally comes from his Tools command). Nonetheless, for party members who do use basic attacks often, it can be a useful way to boost physical damage output. It can be used particularly well against enemies with a high Evasion, especially the Cactuar.
Locke and Gau are exceptions whose damage is mainly derived from their own basic attacks, in which case Sniper Eye would be beneficial; Terra and Celes can also be built toward physical damage due to their weapons selection, though this is down to player preference. Umaro's damage entirely stems from basic attacks, although some better relics are available for him to use. Though Edgar and Mog can be built toward physical attacks from Jump with their spears and Dragoon Boots, Dragon Horn is a better choice for this.
Most of the time, passively improving physical damage from relics, such as Gigas Glove, Hero's Ring, Gauntlet, and Genji Glove, will be a greater overall boost to physical damage output. Later in the game, Master's Scroll effectively makes Sniper Eye obsolete.
