An autonomous robot discarded by Shinra. As part of its self-repair protocol, it used nearby scrap material to put itself back together. It also intermittently emits smog.
Enemy Intel
Smogger is an enemy in Final Fantasy VII Remake, fought in the Sector 5 Slums (Nuts 'n' Bolts Hills and Underdeveloped Land - Toad Marsh in Chapter 8, "Budding Bodyguard", and in Steel Mountain in Chapter 14, "In Search of Hope") and the Collapsed Expressway (in Machinery Graveyard in Chapter 8, and in Old Bypass in Chapters 13 and 14). Smogger can also be fought in the Shinra Combat Simulator as part of the "vs. Team Ragbag" challenge.
The Enemy Skill "Self-Destruct" can be learned from Smogger.
Stats[]
Battle[]
Smogger is a durable and slow-moving enemy that is difficult to interrupt. It mainly uses physical attacks that deal high damage if not blocked. It can spill toxic clouds in a cone in front of it, which will inflict Silence on contact. Its Haywire Haze puts itself on Berserk, causing it to go on a rampage and a charging repeatedly against the player; if the Smogger doesn't collide with any character after it finishes the attack, it'll be in a pressured state.
Smoggers may self-destruct upon being defeated, which can teach the Enemy Skill "Self-Destruct". This ability can hit players even outside of combat, and deal massive damage.
Like most mechanical creatures, Smoggers are weak to Lightning.
Strategy[]
Smoggers are best attacked from behind, to prevent their silencing attack and take advantage of their slow mobility. Its Haywire Haze is telegraphed and easy to avoid; the player can either dodge the attack, interrupt it with lightning spells, or use Cloud's Punisher Mode's counter.
Pairing Elemental Materia with Lightning Materia is effective to attack the enemy's weakness. Aerith can stand back and attack it from a safe distance with lightning spells to pressure it, while Cloud can engage it under Punisher Mode and Focused Thrust to stagger it.
When fighting multiple Smoggers, it is advised to move away after defeating one of them to avoid a possible self-destruct.
Hard Mode[]
On the hard difficulty, the Smogger is more durable and deals more damage. If the player is not controlling Cloud directly, equipping him with Provoke Materia can help protect the less durable Aerith, while she stays at a distance to cast spells. She should either equip MP Absorption Materia to keep spellcasting and conserve MP, or HP Absorption Materia for sustainability. Using Soul Drain is worthwhile to both deal damage and restore her MP. She can use Arcane Ward and Fleeting Familiar to improve her damage. If Aerith is the mainly controlled character, Cloud can have Synergy Materia.
