Smite (インパクトブレイク, Inpakuto Bureiku?, lit. Impact Break) is a recurring ability in the Final Fantasy series, originating in Final Fantasy XIII. It is generally used against an airborne enemy and the user performs a powerful downward strike with their weapon, crushing the enemy into the ground dealing massive amount of damage.
Appearances[]
Final Fantasy XIII[]
Deal heavy damage with Attack to launched target about to recover from stagger.
Description
Smite is a Commando auto-ability assigned to the Attack command ability, which deals a large amount of damage to a foe in midair that is 2.4 seconds or less from the end of a stagger period. It is available to Lightning (Crystarium Stage 4), Snow (Stage 7), and Fang (Stage 5).
Smite has a damage multiplier of 5.0, making it over four times stronger than Attack. Against launched targets, the damage is split into two hits: the strike, and the enemy crashing into the ground, with the latter hit being weaker. Smite is also used against flying targets and grounded targets with high hitboxes, where it consists of one hit and may deal reduced damage, depending on the enemy. It is unaffected by Enspells.
When Smite activates, it delays the end of the stagger period until the move finishes. However, the stagger period can still sometimes end before either hit.
Final Fantasy XIII-2[]
Smite is a Commando passive ability that allows the user to deal heavy damage with Attack to launched targets about to recover from stagger. It can be learned by Serah (role level 26), Noel (role level 22), Chocobo (19), Gandayaks (12), Golden Chocobo (14), Lightning (1), Meonekton (4), Narasimha (35), Proto-behemoth (19), Reaver (22), Red Chocobo (4), Seeping Brie (53), Shaguma (20), and Yaksha (7).
Smite is also a Paladin passive ability for Lightning in the "Requiem of the Goddess" downloadable content scenario. It is learned at level 1 and actives instantly.
It is also an enemy ability used by Lightning.
Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII[]
Smite deals heavy damage with Attack to launched targets about to recover from stagger. Only certain enemies can be launched (such as Reaver, Cyclops, and Noel Kreiss). To launch such enemies, the player must stagger them twice; first as an initial condition, and then as a Launch command, which can be executed from an Attack or Light Slash command after the Stagger Wave is flashing red. Once launched, the enemy can be immediately Smited via Heavy Slash, or attacked first to increase damage dealt. An enemy subjected to Smite ends its staggered state, and as such, it is better to deal as much damage as possible before ending in a Smite to ensure the enemy dies from the attack. Attacking an airborne enemy for too long will cause it to fall, thereby missing the timing for Smite.
Final Fantasy XVI[]
Dissidia 012 Final Fantasy[]
Smite is a Commando Bravery attack for Lightning available from the start. It is a physical attack performed midair with melee low priority and the Wall Rush effect. It takes 20 CP to set, and by mastering it with 100 AP the CP cost is reduced to 10. Smite composes of two aerial slashes ending in with a powerful downward smash.
