Reduces all enemies' speed.

Description

Slowga, also known as Slow 2,[1][2] is an Effect spell in Final Fantasy VI. It inflicts the slow effect on all enemies , which halves the rate their Active Time Battle bar fills, effectively halving their turn rates. The spell is taught by magicite, and outclasses the basic Slow spell that only targets one unit.

Slowga is also an enemy ability used by Level 60 Magic, Magic, and Neslug.

Obtained[]

Party members can learn the spell through the Quetzalli magicite at a x2 rate.

Mechanics[]

Slowga is affected by reflect and Runic.

Slow and haste are mutually exclusive and cannot coexist on the same unit.

Use[]

Slowga is expensive to cast, but inflicts a strong debuff that many enemies are vulnerable. Though the effect of slow is less crippling than the spells Stop, Sleep, and Imp, each of these spells, in addition to only hitting one target, are resisted by stronger enemies. Though Slowga does not completely cripple enemies, it can have a meaningful impact on the outcome of a battle. Slowga can be paired with casting Hastega on the party to instantly gain an upper hand in a fight.

Because Slowga is unaffected by the caster's stats, it can be taught to and used by any party member. In fact, it may be better for non-spellcaster party members to use Slowga while allowing spellcasters to preserve their MP for offensive or healing spells where their MP is more important.

Slowga outclasses Slow as it hits all enemies at once, but has over five times the MP cost of Slow. This is almost always worth it for the turn efficiency granted by Slowga.

A notable example of an enemy on which Slowga is useful is Tonberries. Casting the spell against them makes the fight much more bearable and realistic for the player.
