It slows down the speed of all enemies, reducing their Hit Rate. In the Dawn of Souls and 20th Anniversary Edition releases it costs 5 MP to cast.
Final Fantasy II[edit | edit source]

Description
Slow is a White Magic spell which reduces the speed of one or all enemies, reducing their Hit Rate. As the spell's level grows, the potency and the success rate of the spell increases. The effect can stack, but multiple castings on the same enemy will decrease the spell's success rate. Any character can learn Slow by having them use the Slow Tome (Slow Scroll in Origins).

Final Fantasy IV[edit | edit source]
Slows the passing of time.
Description
Slow is a White Magic spell. It has a casting time of 1, costs 14 MP in the 2D versions, and 10 MP in the 3D versions. It reduces the speed at which enemies act. Most bosses are not immune to Slow, so it usually proves a sound strategy to use it at the start of a battle. It has a 70% accuracy in 2D versions (90% accuracy in 3D versions). In 2D versions the spell power is +8 of the target's Speed modifier (with the default speed modifier being 16 for all targets), and can go up as far as 32, halving the target's ATB speed. Slow can be used by Lunar Dragon, Sorceress, and White Dragon.
Slow can cause Reflect, Sap, and Stop to be prolonged before it wears off and increase the total damage done by Sap. It also delays Gradual Petrify, delays recovery from Sleep, and delays the effect of Poison. It has no effect on Doom, except in as much as it allows the player to take fewer actions before the countdown reaches 0.

The enemies Killbin and Bahba Velamyu, and the bosses Helletic Hojo and Bizarro∙Sephiroth, can all use the spell against the party.
Final Fantasy VII Remake[edit | edit source]
Slow is the second ability of Time Materia, costing 3 MP to cast. It reduces how fast an ally's ATB gauge fills up, and reduces the amount of attacks the enemy can throw out in a period of time. The spell never misses, but can fail.
Slow can be used by Hedgehog Pie King.
Final Fantasy VIII[edit | edit source]
Slow is available early on from the enemies encountered near Balamb Town. The spell can only target single enemy, and is not as useful as previous incarnations, but is effective against a number of early bosses. The spell also only junctions well with Speed, Status Attack, or Status Defense, but there are several better options for junction with Speed than Slow.
Casting Slow in battle increases compatibility with Doomtrain by 1 and with Siren by 0.6, but lowers compatibility with Cerberus by 0.8 and with Carbuncle and Eden by 0.2.
