The flow of time for the character is slowed, increasing time required to act. Remove by casting Haste.
Description
Slow is a status in Final Fantasy XII. It halves a unit's ATB gauge speed, forcing them to take action less frequently. It has no effect on animation speed, however. Unlike in some other games in the series, Slow does not affect other status effects' durations. Slow and Haste also cannot usually co-exist on the same target, one overriding the other.
The formula for the duration is:
Slow is an ailment that more commonly affects to bosses. Since Slow only affects the ATB gauge speed and not animation speed, combos, or the "cooldown time" after using an ability, it mainly makes a difference for physical attackers. As compensation, many physical-oriented enemies gain the Attack CT0 augment, which makes them act without Charge Time, effectively making Slow pointless.
Abilities[]
| Spell | Slow & Slowga (Time Magicks) |
|---|---|
| Weapon | Heavy Lance 10%, Iron Pole 10%, Kagenui 10%, Long Bolts 25%, Orichalcum Dirk 10%, Sakura-saezuri 8% (Zodiac) |
Slow and Slowga have variable effectiveness due to stats and other statuses like Faith on the caster and Shell on an enemy, but they can be made to always inflict Slow on susceptible targets when the caster equips the Indigo Pendant.
With Nihopalaoa, the player can also inflict Slow to targets with items designed to heal it. With Stamp, one with Slow status can give it to others.
In addition, the Ensanguined Shield puts the wearer under constant Slow.
The ally-targeting gambit specifically for this status is called "Ally: status = Slow". In the original version, the gambit can be bought for 50 gil after obtaining the Dawn Shard. The enemy-targeting gambit is "Foe: status = Slow" and the self-targeting gambit is "Self: status = Slow", both available to purchase for 50 gil after the events at Draklor Laboratory. In the Zodiac versions, all these gambits can be purchased for 70 gil after leaving Nalbina Dungeons.
