Decreases speed

Slow is an indirect magic spell in Final Fantasy VII. It is granted by the Time Materia at level two, and applies the Slow status effect, which halves the speed of the target's ATB gauge. Slow is the counterpart of Haste, which doubles ATB speed. Many larger enemies, including bosses, are not immune to Slow.

Slow can be used by characters with the Time Materia at level 2. It applies the Slow status effect, which halves the ATB speed of the target. The spell can help the player outpace opponents. Crucially, Slow is guaranteed to work on enemies provided they do not have immunity, and many bosses are not actually immune to Slow. These things make it arguably the most useful negative status effect.

Slow can be amplified by linking the Time Materia with the All Materia, allowing it to slow down all enemies. Sneak Attack can also be useful, as it allows the player to slow an enemy as soon as a battle starts, provided it is linked with Time Materia on level 2. It can also be linked with a few other Support Materia, though the only ones that are effective are Added Cut, Magic Counter, and Steal as well.

An alternative to Slow is the Spider Web item, which can also apply the status. Additionally, Black Cauldron applies Slow among other statuses.

The enemies Killbin, Bahba Velamyu, Helletic Hojo, and Bizarro∙Sephiroth can use Slow.
