Use[]
Sleepel can be used by characters with the Seal Materia at level 1. It inflicts the Sleep status on a target, which renders a target unable to act until awoken by a physical attack or the duration ends, meaning their ATB is not frozen and they are still vulnerable to magic damage. It has a 72% probability of working when cast.
Sleepel can be useful as it can disable a strong enemy while focusing on weaker ones, making a group of enemies easier to deal with. Its big drawback is that it is not guaranteed to work, and most larger enemies are immune to the status entirely. Another major drawback is that it is effectively made redundant by the Frog Song from the Enemy Skill Materia, which inflicts both Sleep and Frog for a smaller MP cost. The Enemy Skill Bad Breath can also inflict the status among many others, and the item Dream Powder can inflict the item at an 80% rate.
Sleepel can be cast by the enemies Eligor, SOLDIER:3rd, Crown Lance, Bahba Velamyu, Ironite, Goblin, Godo, Bizarro∙Sephiroth, and Helletic Hojo.
