FFVII Sleep status

Sleep (すいみん(睡眠), Suimin?, lit. Sleep) is a status in Final Fantasy VII. Sleeping units cannot act until awoken although their ATB is not frozen. They are vulnerable to magic damage as it does not wake them, but being hit by a physical attack removes the status. Sleeping characters do not use Cover.

Use[]

Sleep has very little use unless the player relies on non-physical attacks, in which case Sleep becomes a rather strong status effect for the player. The player will not get access to the status until they reach Junon to obtain the Seal Materia, and then later can use the superior Frog Song Enemy Skill, which has 100% accuracy. Sleep is useless to use on machine enemies.

If the player wishes to attempt inflicting Sleep, it is possible to inflict it on Turks:Reno and Turks:Rude at Gongaga as well as Dyne, making those fights a breeze. The player can also inflict Sleep on Gi Nattak, but as the player can simply use a Phoenix Down or X-Potion to win the fight immediately, Sleep is not necessary. The player may also use Sleep on enemies for further chances of stealing from them, such as the Gigas or Adamantaimai.
