Etymology[]

Ghasts are a race of creatures in H. P. Lovecraft's Dreamlands.

Their name in English is a portmanteau of "skull" and "revenant". In Japanese this portmanteau is still present, however スカル (sukaru?) is also the first part of Scarmiglione's Japanese name. The enemy is only fought in the Scarmiglione battle, and in The After Years in a fight just before a battle with Scarmiglione.

Revenants are animated corpses or ghosts in Western folklore that are said to return from the dead to terrorize the living. The word "revenant" is French (Fr. revenir, "to return") and means "one who returns"..
