Siren is the second avatar of wind in Final Fantasy XI. She is involved in the storyline of Final Fantasy XI: Rhapsodies of Vana'diel. Siren can be fought as a boss in two different encounters and can be obtained as a summon through the quest, "A Silent Forest".
History[]
I am unfit to call myself a higher power when I am unable to act of mine own accord... and succumb to the forces that threaten our land. That creature appeared before my visage and sunk its teeth into my very soul.
Siren, after being freed from Volto Oscuro.
When Volto Oscuro was found outside Norg, he summoned Siren to attack Iroha, Zeid, and the adventurer. Being confused about seeing an avatar of wind that was not Garuda, Zeid angered Siren before Volto Oscuro attacked. After Iroha fended him off, Volto Oscuro dismissed Siren before fleeing. The adventurer and Zeid chased after him. When they caught him in Yuhtunga Jungle, he summoned Siren again. She ensnared Zeid while she and the adventurer fought. The adventurer broke Volto Oscuro's pact with Siren just before Volto Oscuro absorbed Siren's energy into himself. Once the avatar was no longer in his control, he fled. No longer being controlled by Volto Oscuro, Siren explained what he was and how he came from the future along with Iroha to Zeid and the adventurer.
Later, Siren and Siren Prime met with Iroha in Escha Ru'Aunn to destroy those who had come from the future, Volto Oscuro along with herself. They captured Volto Oscuro, but before they could cast the killing spell, Tenzen shot down the bell being used as a medium, disrupting the spell. Iroha demanded that they finish the spell, but Tenzen refused. Siren explained to Iroha that she was not meant to die in the past as she demanded, otherwise Altana would not have let her form strong bonds with Tenzen and the adventurer.
After the Cloud of Darkness was defeated, Arciela went to the newly planted world tree to request help from Siren while she led the Sacred City of Adoulin. Siren agreed to the request, but required a trial to test the adventurer's strength first. She battled with the adventurer, and when the adventurer proved worthy, Siren granted her blessing.
Gameplay[]
Siren is fought on two occasions. After the second fight, she becomes summonable. Siren is the most recent summonable avatar to be added to Final Fantasy XI. Etymology[]
Sirens are from Greek mythology. In the story of Odysseus, the Sirens are beautiful women who lure sailors with their voices. Odysseus escaped the Sirens by having all his sailors plug their ears with beeswax. He was curious as to what the Sirens sounded like, so he let himself be tied to the mast to ensure he could not fall victim to their voices.
