Siren is a one-of-a-kind Triple Triad card in Final Fantasy VIII used to play the minigame and for turning into items with Quezacotl's Card Mod. Siren is the eighty-sixth card in the inventory and the ninth Level 8 card. It depicts the Guardian Force Siren, drawn from the Elvoret boss atop the Dollet communications tower during the SeeD field exam. The card is called "Siren" even if the player renames the GF. In Final Fantasy VIII Remastered Siren has a more covered up model when summoned , but the card face uses the old model.
As a Level 8 GF card, Siren has pretty good values with a 9 and an 8. Its value placements may also be useful for games that use Same and/or Plus.
Obtain[]
The card is held by the pub manager in Dollet who plays with Dollet region rules, which include Elemental and Random by default. He is first found in the upstairs of his establishment, a middle-aged man in a tan shirt. When the party wins a game of Triple Triad against him, he will also invite Squall to his "VIP room" accessed from the door opposite the stairs. Talking to him in the VIP room has him gift the party various cards and the player can inspect the stacks of magazines on the floor to acquire various items, including the Occult Fan II. The earliest the player can challenge the pub manager for Siren is after leaving Timber; instead of going to the Galbadia Garden as instructed, the player can head for Dollet instead.
If the player completed the Card Club quest before the point of no return (fighting the boss atop the Lunatic Pandora), the club members will appear aboard the Ragnarok in the endgame, from whom the player can win all Level 8–10 cards they do not currently hold in their deck, even the cards they had modified before. This allows the player to modify the Siren card and then win it back.
Card Mod[]
The Siren card refines into 3 Status Atks with Quezacotl's Card Mod, an item that teaches ST-Atk-J to a Guardian Force. It is a good ability to have that lets the player inflict enemies with status ailments from normal attacks, but the player will have enough ST-Atk-Js for all of the party as long as they don't miss too many GFs. Status Atks can further be refined into Elixirs, but modding the Angelo card is a superior method of getting them, and by the time the player gets the Forbidden Medicine Refiner, they can already likely buy Elixirs from Johnny's Shop in Esthar City (requires the Familiar ability from Tonberry).
Physical version[]
In 1999, following the release of Final Fantasy VIII in Japan, Bandai produced a full set of collectible Triple Triad cards in Final Fantasy VIII Carddass Masters Perfect Visuals. The set was made up of the 110 cards as seen in the game along with 72 artwork cards and a collector's edition playing mat. The cards have a blue side and a red side. The cards have become a rare collector's item.
